A Message from Sen. Kay Hagan

We Need to Restore Emergency Unemployment Insurance for North Carolinians

North Carolina is accustomed to standing out from the rest of the nation – for being the most military-friendly, for having the first public university and the best community college system, and for being first in flight. But today, as a result of a reckless law passed by the N.C. General Assembly, we’re also known as the first and only state to cut off federal unemployment insurance for struggling middle-class families when they need help most.

Even though our state’s unemployment rate continues to decrease, the long-term unemployment crisis –and the North Carolinians who cannot find work – should not be ignored. The most recent jobs report for our state offers troubling statistics that speak to a larger problem: many North Carolinians have given up on finding a permanent job and simply fallen out of the labor force. In fact, 8,100 people left the workforce in November alone, and over the last 12 months, North Carolina’s workforce has shrunk by 95,000 people.

Until the state acted to cut them off, federal unemployment benefits provided a lifeline for so many people who lost their jobs in a rough economy. In August, a North Carolina TV station told the story of a Lumberton woman who was ironing her clothes in preparation for a job interview when the electric company shut off her power because she couldn’t pay her bills. “It’s been excruciating,” she said, adding that she feared her landlord knocking on her door to evict her at any moment.

“We don’t have time for this”: Officer Shoots and Kills NC Teen With Schizophrenia

teenager

A North Carolina family is mourning the loss of their 18 year old son after he was shot and killed by a police officer.

Mark Wilsey called 911 for police assistance with his son Keith, who was having a schizophrenic incident and threatened his mother with a small screwdriver.

Wilsey said two police officers showed up and were able to subdue Keith, but the arrival of a third officer caused the teen to become agitated, and the officers used a Taser on him.

Wilsey told WECT that officers had his son down on the ground after the teen was tased a few times and an officer said, “We don’t have time for this.”

That’s when Wilsey says one of the officers stepped between the two who were holding Keith down and fired, killing his son:

General cements plan to end Obama’s reign

I don’t see the point of the exercise below. When will we stop begging for our freedom and throw off these chains forged in Washington, DC? Does that sound like a sovereign citizen or a patriot?

David DeGerolamo

Polls show Americans of all parties are upset with the direction of the country, but what can they actually do to make a difference?

Retired Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, as chairman of Stand Up America, has been at the forefront of many of these rallying cries, encouraging Americans to take action in a number of ways.

But now the former deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army in the Pacific has settled upon a battle plan he believes could actually work: a House-led, parliamentary style vote of “no confidence” in Obama’s administration.

“I have already achieved a level of ‘no confidence’ in Obama as a leader, but now I urge you to examine this concept,” Vallely wrote in an email to supporters obtained by WND. “If you agree with me that all confidence is lost, I urge you to then ask yourself what is in the realm of the possible. I implore you to push aside the urge to try and fix everything in one fell swoop.

“Now is the time for something a dear friend calls ‘conviction without eviction,’ an end that can be brought on through a vote of no confidence, locally, statewide and nationally,” Vallely claims. “This is just a first step in what can only be repaired over time, but it is achievable in the short term and starts to remove Obama’s ability to continue his ruinous ways now.”

Sen. Ron Johnson files ObamaCare lawsuit

I have included a different Republican opinion below from the man who gave us the Patriot Act.

Sensenbrenner slams Johnson over suit

A veteran House Republican ripped his home-state GOP senator for his “unfortunate political stunt” on ObamaCare.

The unusual intraparty fight was triggered by Sen. Ron Johnson’s (R-Wis.) new lawsuit against the Obama administration, which takes aim at the federal contributions that lawmakers and their staffs get for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Johnson unveiled the details of his legal case at a press conference Monday, but Rep. James Sensenbrenner’s statement on Sunday stole some of Johnson’s thunder.

“Sen. Johnson’s lawsuit is an unfortunate political stunt,” Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) said. “I am committed to repealing ObamaCare, but the employer contribution he’s attacking is nothing more than a standard benefit that most private and all federal employees receive — including the president.

The Survivalist’s Bucket List

Just as in stockpiling goods, in a long-term crisis the more knowledge and skills that you have about how to deal with a wide variety of situations and challenges the better off you’ll be. However, unlike stockpiling. knowledge cannot be purchased. It’s gained through study, learning, and practice.

You may be saying,”Well, I have a bunch of books on how to deal with every type of situation, and if I can read it, I can learn it”. Although I do highly recommend having a Survival Library, having only books on hand — while helpful — is not ideal. You don’t want your family to be dependent upon you learning a skill for the first time in the midst of a crisis and some skills take years to develop.

With that in mind, here’s a Bucket List of skills you may want to consider. This is in no way exhaustive or in order of importance but should get you started:

Federal judge strikes down Chicago gun law

A federal district court judge in Chicago ruled Monday that the city’s ban on gun sales is unconstitutional.

In a 35-page opinion, Judge Edmond E. Chang from the Northern District of Illinois wrote that the city’s law “goes too far.” Chang was appointed by President Obama in 2010.

Chang delayed the effect of his ruling, however, in order to allow the city time to respond. In his opinion, he acknowledged the city’s “stark reality” of thousands of shooting victims and murders each year.

Retired Air Force Colonel With Three Graduate Degrees Is Homeless And Sleeps In A Van

Blue Van - Photo by SuperTank17

What advice would you give to a retired Air Force Colonel that has three graduate degrees and that cannot even find work as a janitor?  59-year-old Robert Freniere once served as a special assistant to General Stanley McChrystal, and he has spent extensive time in both Iraq and Afghanistan.  But now this man who once had an office in the heart of the Pentagon cannot find anyone who will hire him.  In addition to his story, in this article you will also hear about several other middle-aged professionals that cannot find work in this economy either.  Despite what the Obama administration and the mainstream media are telling you, the truth is that there has been no employment recovery in this country.  What you are about to read is absolutely heartbreaking, but it represents the reality of what is really going on out there in the streets of America today.

A lot of unemployed Americans believe that they cannot find work because they don’t have enough “education” or enough “experience”.  Well, the truth is that there are a whole lot of people out there like Freniere that have lots of both and still can’t even get hired as a janitor

After a 30-year military career in which he earned three graduate degrees, rose to the rank of colonel, and served as an aide to Pentagon brass, Robert Freniere can guess what people might say when they learn he’s unemployed and lives out of his van:

Why doesn’t this guy get a job as a janitor?

Freniere answers his own question: “Well, I’ve tried that.”

Those Who Would Rule Us Are Not Obeying the Constitution

In Part two of this series of articles, (link here) I suggested that there was little likelihood that reform of the Constitution could be accomplished before the coming economic collapse.  My best judgment remains that we have gone past the tipping point, and recovery of the situation short of bloodshed is no longer possible.  There are, however, some serious efforts by serious people under way to try to recover the situation short of total economic and societal collapse. Michael Farris argues, here, that a convention of the States with the intent to further constrain Federal over-reach would be relatively safe.  Others are deeply concerned about the potential for hi-jacking of the resulting constitutional convention, with good reason.

In that regard, I’ve reflected on what to do about this, what sort of additional constraints need to be imposed on Federal authority, and what added definition is required (see links here,  here  and here.)  Assuming that the appropriate amendments could indeed be drafted and passed, however, what good will it do if none of them are enforced?  The biggest single problem we have with the present government and Constitution is just as Lysander Spooner said-  Those who would rule us are not obeying the Constitution.     None of these additional constraints, however wonderful they are in concept, will have any effect if they continue to be ignored as the present Constitution is.   Even an enforcement clause might be ignored.

So why do intelligent people pursue these remedies?  Those who seek Constitutional remedies ARE NOT YET PREPARED TO TAKE UP ARMS.  They have not yet internalized the implications of various policies, or are not willing to admit to themselves what they are seeing, and are still trying to make changes more or less within the present broken and illegitimate system.  As some have asserted, some of the people promoting such ideas may be stooges or stoolies for the forces of tyranny, but most of these folks I have met are honestly trying to find a way to move this country back towards freedom.  They are standing up for Liberty, are promoting the ideas of the Enlightenment as they do so and are getting people previously uninvolved in the Liberty Movement to become active supporters.  They run the same risk of the gulag or worse as the rest of us, whether they know that yet or not.  As such, I count them as allies and am willing to support their efforts.

Reid won’t rule out filibuster elimination

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Sunday said he was not currently considering an elimination of the filibuster for legislation, but he warned that the country could not remain “paralyzed” by Republican obstruction.

Reid and the Senate Democratic majority enraged the GOP last year by moving to cut off the filibuster for most presidential appointees and judicial nominations. They left in place a 60-vote threshold for legislation. But in a rare Sunday television interview, Reid stopped short of categorically ruling out such a move in the future.

“We’re not there yet,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “No, I’m not thinking about that today.”
