Israel accuses US of deceit on nuclear deal with Iran
The interim nuclear accord negotiated directly between Washington and Tehran was already secretly in the bag before the two-day talks between Iran and the Six World powers took place in Geneva Thursday and Friday. The plan was for a ceremonial signing to take place Friday, Nov. 8, after US Secretary of State John Kerry flew in from Jerusalem and the Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed “the general outline of an agreement.”
Half a dozen foreign ministers from across the globe flew into Geneva to add their signatures to the interim accord.
But the signing did not take place and the event dragged on into Saturday, Nov. 9.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius remarked: “There is an initial draft that we do not accept… I have no certainty that we can finish up.” He also referred to the concerns of Iran’s neighbors in the Middle East.
French reservations on the accord were not, however, the main obstacle. It may be recalled that a last-minute phone call from President Barack Obama on July 31 persuaded President Francois Holland to return to their hangars the French bombers standing ready at Saudi air bases to strike Syria after its chemical attack.
The French government will no doubt be won round again and give the interim deal with Iran a chance.
The US president’s phone conversation with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu (“This is a very, very bad deal!”) early Saturday was a lot more heated. It took place after a three-day visit by John Kerry, which DEBKAfile’s sources reported Wednesday hardly touched on the Palestinian question: Most of the time he was on the phone to the US delegation in Geneva, the White House and the Iranian Foreign Minister.

In 73 BC, the Thracian gladiator Spartacus led one of the biggest slave revolts in the history of the world in what became known as the Third Servile War.
By most accounts, there were over 100,000 slaves fighting against the Romans for their freedom.
This is a prodigious figure; by comparison, uprisings of just a few dozen slaves in the American south during the 19th century were considered shockingly large.
It took about two years, but a Roman army led by Marcus Licinius Crassus eventually put down the insurrection, then brutally crucified thousands of slaves to send a bone-chilling message of what would happen to anyone who crosses Rome. Or him.
Crassus is an interesting figure because, at the time, he was one of the wealthiest men in the world. So it’s quite ironic that a member of the ultra-rich was responsible for crushing an army of slaves fighting for their freedom.
We modern-day humans like to think that we are far more enlightened now; we can’t even begin to imagine a concept like slavery anymore.
And yet, it exists. People are born into bondage every day… many of them without even knowing it.
‘Real’ Unemployment: 13.8%
The “real” unemployment rate rose from 13.6% in September to 13.8% in October, according to figures released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Though the national unemployment rate is 7.3%, the “real” unemployment rate is a broader measure of the number of people in the United States, 16 and older, currently looking for jobs.
Known as the U-6 unemployment rate, this “real” unemployment figure, seasonally adjusted, includes the unemployed “plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons ….”

Bill Maher and Anthony Weiner battled Real Time panelists GOPAC president David Avella and Victoria DeFransceco Soto over the media coverage of Obamacare and President Obama’s apology for the botched rollout, with Weiner and Maher charging that however bad the rollout may have been, the Republicans had effectively no plan to deal with the health care crisis in the first place. Whereas Maher thought the media’s been doing a crappy job not reporting the facts to people about the lower costs and better options of health care plans, Avella said they’re not doing their due diligence to report on the “hundreds of thousands of people who are losing their health care.” Weiner shot back that Obamacare came from Republicans in the first place, shouting “That’s your idea! Why don’t you like it now that we wrote it into law?!”
Soto found it a huge mistake that Obama waited weeks before apologizing and explaining the faulty “if you like your plan you can keep your plan” line, and when Weiner pushed back, she said, “You’re being paternalistic here.” She argued that Obama’s apology was too little, too late, at which point Maher cried, “When did Bush ever say he was worry!”
Weiner kept insisting, “We’re trying to provide coverage because the Republicans can’t come up with a way to do it!”

The United States has More People in Jail than High School Teachers and Engineers
America has become a gigantic gulag over the past few decades and most of its citizens don’t know, or just don’t care. One of the primary causes of the over incarceration in the U.S. is the absurd, tragic failure that is the “war on drugs”, and indeed nearly half of the folks in prison are there for drug related offenses. Making matters worse is a rapidly growing private prison system, which adds a profit motive to the equation. Recently, I wrote an extensive rant against the private prison system and provided details on how it works in: A Deep Look into the Shady World of the Private Prison Industry.
Now here are some of the sad facts. There are 1.57 million people in federal and state prison (does not even include county and local jail) according to the Department of Justice. That’s above the nation’s 1.53 million engineers and 1.05 million high school teachers.

Philippines typhoon leaves an estimated 1,000 dead in one coastal town alone, report says
One of the most powerful storms on record devastated the central Philippines, reportedly killing an estimated 1,000 people in one town alone and leaving the airport in the hard-hit city of Tacloban in shambles.
The Philippine Red Cross told Reuters that based on reports it estimates at least 1,000 dead in Tacloban, which is located about 360 miles southeast of Manila, and 200 in Samar Provice.
“An estimated more than 1,000 bodies were seen floating in Tacloban as reported by our Red Cross teams,” Gwendolyn Pang, the secretary general from the agency told Reuters. “In Samar, about 200 deaths. Validation is ongoing.”
With communications and roads still cut off, Capt. John Andrews, deputy director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, said he had received “reliable information” by radio from his staff that more than 100 bodies were lying in the streets of Tacloban on Leyte Island. It was one of five islands where Typhoon Haiyan slammed Friday.

Scientists Warn of Extreme Risk
We’ve long said that the greatest short-term threat to humanity is from the fuel pools at Fukushima.
The Japanese nuclear agency recently green-lighted the removal of the spent fuel rods from Fukushima reactor 4′s spent fuel pool. The operation is scheduled to begin this month.
The head of the U.S. Department of Energy correctly notes:
The success of the cleanup also has global significance. So we all have a direct interest in seeing that the next steps are taken well, efficiently and safely.
If one of the pools collapsed or caught fire, it could have severe adverse impacts not only on Japan … but the rest of the world, including the United States. Indeed, a Senator called it a national security concern for the U.S.:
The radiation caused by the failure of the spent fuel pools in the event of another earthquake could reach the West Coast within days. That absolutely makes the safe containment and protection of this spent fuel a security issue for the United States.

The ‘White Poppy President’
The same president, who barely two months ago tried to keep 80-plus-year-old war veterans from visiting their open-air Washington war memorials, will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Veteran’s Day this Monday.
The same president, who is gutting the U.S. military, will host a breakfast to honor veterans and their families that is closed to the press. (White House Schedule)
For reasons above and more, President Barack Obama fully qualifies as ‘The White Poppy President’.
The White Poppy is the symbol of the ‘conscientious objector’.
Both here and overseas, the White Poppy is piggybacking the Red Poppy as an equal symbol for public display on Remembrance Day and Veterans Day. The pacifist and bedraggled White Poppy has much in common with politicians of the day who piggyback the internationally celebrated day to honour the world’s war dead with the same empty words and photo-ops.

Which of the 11 American nations do you live in?
Red states and blue states? Flyover country and the coasts? How simplistic. Colin Woodard, a reporter at the Portland Press Herald and author of several books, says North America can be broken neatly into 11 separate nation-states, where dominant cultures explain our voting behaviors and attitudes toward everything from social issues to the role of government.
“The borders of my eleven American nations are reflected in many different types of maps — including maps showing the distribution of linguistic dialects, the spread of cultural artifacts, the prevalence of different religious denominations, and the county-by-county breakdown of voting in virtually every hotly contested presidential race in our history,” Woodard writes in the Fall 2013 issue of Tufts University’s alumni magazine. “Our continent’s famed mobility has been reinforcing, not dissolving, regional differences, as people increasingly sort themselves into like-minded communities.”

Chinese troops will have boots on the ground in Hawaii on Tuesday
Aloha Hawaiians! If you see what you think are soldiers from the Communist Peoples Republic of China Army wandering about in your neck of the woods Tuesday through Thursday next week, your imagination is not playing tricks on you.
For the first time in history the U.S. Army will host the Communist Peoples Republic of China’s Army on American soil Nov. 12-14, 2013.
But don’t worry while Chinese soldiers will have boots on the ground in Hawaii, they are only really “simulating”.
“Simulating humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to a fictional third country”.
You can’t make this stuff up when GridEx 2 is doing it for you.

Are You a Gorilla or a God?

Humanity stands about halfway between gorillas and gods. The great question that looms over us, is this: “Which will we incorporate into our lives? Gorilla things or God things?”
The choice is ours. Yes, various choices are thrust upon us all our lives, accompanied with various levels of intimidation and threat, but at some point, all of us find ourselves able to choose freely. And it is then that we go in one direction or the other. We are able to change directions of course, but every time we choose, we move a step in one direction or the other.
What We Are
Please understand that I am not endorsing any specific theories here – religious, scientific, or otherwise. I’m merely describing the situation in which humanity finds itself. We are halfway between gorillas and gods: The worst things we do are gorilla-like, and the best things we do are god-like. Either direction is open to us.
Strange as it may seem, we are a lot like apes. Our bodies are built in the same ways, our body chemistry is nearly identical, and the worst aspects of human nature are essentially the same as the worst aspects of primate behavior.
We are also a lot like gods. We transcend entropy; we create. We can touch the soul in others, and the best aspects of human nature are essentially the same as the best characteristics attributed to the gods.
This is not what we can be; this is what we are. What we become in the future depends on whether we choose gorilla things or god things, here and now.
