Census Bureau: Means-Tested Gov’t Benefit Recipients Outnumber Full-Time Year-Round Workers

Americans who were recipients of means-tested government benefits in 2011 outnumbered year-round full-time workers, according to data released this month by the Census Bureau.

They also out-numbered the total population of the Philippines.

There were 108,592,000 people in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2011 who were recipients of one or more means-tested government benefit programs, the Census Bureau said in data released this week. Meanwhile, according to the Census Bureau, there were 101,716,000 people who worked full-time year round in 2011. That included both private-sector and government workers.

That means there were about 1.07 people getting some form of means-tested government benefit for every 1 person working full-time year round.

The Census Bureau counted as recipients of means-tested government programs “anyone residing in a household in which one or more people received benefits from the program.” Many of these people lived in households receiving more than one form of means-tested benefit at the same time.

Consumer Confidence Plunges To Lowest In 2013

Following record UMich misses, Gallup’s economic confidence collapse, the slump in the conference board’s measure of confidence, and Bloomberg’s index of consumer comfort signaling major concerns among rich and poor in this country (in spite of record highs in stocks), today’s Consumer Confidence data from UMich continues to confirm a problem for all those ‘hoping’ for moar multiple expansion. Falling for the 3rd month in a row, and missing expectations for the 2nd month in a row, this is the lowest confidence print in 2013. Perhaps even more worrisome for the ‘hope and change’ crowd is that the 12-month economic outlook has collapsed to its lowest since Nov 2011. It would seem that all that free money flooding our ‘markets’ has reached peak efficacy in terms of confidence inspiration, and as Citi notes, when this cycle has played out in the past, equity market corrections are often quick to follow…

IS A MASSIVE CHINESE ORDER CAUSING A SILVER SHORTAGE IN EUROPE?

One of my contacts with one of the largest European precious metals brokers told me this morning that they could not find any silver.  All the refiners they contacted could not take their orders and could not give any delay. “Call us next next month”, they said.  This is the first time that such an event has occurred.I called a Swiss Friend of mine, whose company specializes in silver scrap. He told me that the Swiss refiners were very busy refining silver ore arriving from the mines, and are now quoting between 5 and 6 weeks to refine silver scrap- twice the usual delay.

On Wednesday, he attempted to source a ton of silver (32,000 oz), from the three main Swiss refiners.

Two of them refused to take the order even giving a delay, and the third refiner stated delivery would take 2 weeks.

The refiners had been very busy during the last month trying to fulfill an “enormous” Chinese order. They refused to divulge how enormous this demand was because of professional secrecy, but it seemed to me it was a sovereign order.  As India increased its 2012 silver import by 4,000 tons this year, the silver market is very tight. The Chinese demand saturates the refiners’ capacity.

Iran presents Russian Gen. Viktor Bondarev with not one but two copied US drones

The Iranian media played up the presentation Tuesday, Oct. 22, of a copy of the US-made ScanEagle by Iran’s air force chief Farzad Esmayeeli to Lt. Gen. Viktor Bondarev, visiting Russian air force chief. Both used the ceremony to celebrate “Iran’s success in reverse-engineering and mass-producing” the American unmanned low-altitude reconnaissance drone, which it claimed to have captured in Dec. 2012.

The Russian air force commander examined the ScanEagle and admired the handiwork of the Iranian aeronautical engineers who he said had even upgraded the ScanEagle’s capabilities.

DEBKAfile: This incident will go down was one of the biggest military intelligence frauds ever perpetrated before a battery of video cameras for world publication, because it was no more than a red herring to conceal a secret handover not long before. A far more valuable gift was quietly handed to the Russian general earlier at the same Khatam al-Anbiya air base. It was a replica complete with secret technology of a prize long coveted by Moscow: America’s most secret drone, the RQ-170 Sentinel captured by Iran on a CIA mission a year earlier on Dec. 13, 2011, and prized for its unique UAV stealth technology and intelligence-gathering devices linked to military satellites.

Tehran has claimed more than once that its engineers had succeeded in replicating and reusing Sentinel technology in its own drones. Since this drone was not actually downed by the Iranians, but by the Chinese cyber warfare experts assisting them, Moscow has always suspected that the Chinese were allowed to examine and copy its secrets.

Contractors pocketed $600 million, then farmed it out to India

What’s becoming incredibly apparent at this point is that the U.S. and Canadian contractors who collected $600 million to build this thing most likely just pocketed the cash and then subbed it out to contract programmers in India or Pakistan. Indian programmers are notorious for “programming to spec” but not with an overall vision that the thing should work. They are very competent programmers, in other words, but often lack the big picture view of how the application is supposed to be ultimately used.

Meanwhile, the Healthcare.gov operator who spoke to Sean Hannity about her front-line experience with the disastrous rollout has now been fired by the Obama administration. Today, Hannity gifted the woman a one-year salary of $26,000 and offered to help her find a job. Her name is Erling Davis, and she’s just the latest casualty of the Obama administration’s rampage against America.

“They fired me from my job,” she explains. “Two people escorted me upstairs to HR, and then it was three people… and we have to release you.” This termination of her job was, of course, without cause since the woman was extremely patient, honest and professional on the phone. She was doing exactly what she was hired to do: answer questions about Obamacare.

Apparently, HHS actually wants phone operators to LIE to callers instead of telling them the truth. If you lie enough, you get to keep your job. Heck, if you lie really, really well you might even get to be President!

Dangerous Freedom Vs. Peaceful Slavery

The words above reflect a state of mind and disposition that has been expressed by philosophers and revolutionaries for thousands of years. It is not a novel or new concept, but it is a concept that seems to have been forgotten across much of these United States. The population has largely been domesticated and this is the primary reason why there has been such little pushback to the global oligarchs looting the landscape. A pathetically large percentage of the population would rather not think, they’d prefer to be told what to believe. They would rather not have any risk in their lives, they’d prefer to have shiny gadgets handed to them. They would rather not explore the wonderful expansive world around them, they’d rather sit on the couch and watch television.

Exclusive: Germany, Brazil Turn to U.N. to Restrain American Spies

Brazil and Germany today joined forces to press for the adoption of a U.N. General Resolution that promotes the right of privacy on the internet, marking the first major international effort to restrain the National Security Agency’s intrusions into the online communications of foreigners, according to diplomatic sources familiar with the push.

The effort follows a German claim that the American spy agency may have tapped the private telephone of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and dozens of other world leaders. It also comes about one month after Brazilian leader Dilma Rousseff denounced NSA espionage against her country as “a breach of international law” in a General Assembly speech and proposed that the U.N. establish legal guidelines to prevent “cyberspace from being used as a weapon of war.”

Brazilian and German diplomats met in New York today with a small group of Latin American and European governments to consider a draft resolution that calls for expanding privacy rights contained in the International Covenant Civil and Political Rights to the online world. The draft does not refer to a flurry of American spying revelations that have caused a political uproar around the world, particularly in Brazil and German. But it was clear that the revelation provided the political momentum to trigger today’s move to the United Nations. The blowback from the NSA leaks continues to agonize U.S. diplomats and military officials concerned about America’s image abroad.

The Daily Show‘s “field reporters” have dealt with a fair amount of hilariously oblivious responses from interviewees over the years, but on last night’s show, correspondent Aasif Mandvi appeared to have been caught off-guard by just how hilariously oblivious his interviewee was.

Speaking with Buncombe County Republican precinct chair Don Yelton on the subject of North Carolina’s controversial voter ID law, Mandvi attempted to prompt a reaction by declaring “the law is not racist, and you’re not racist.”

Expecting Yelton to fire back with an unequivocal “no,” Mandvi was instead treated to several long seconds of introspection, followed by, “well, I’ve been called a bigot before.”

Then, as they say, things got weird.

Is Bitcoin More Dangerous than “Cartel Money”?

I’m going to use a couple of passages from the Bible (the original set of moral standards for our Western civilization), followed by an examination of both Bitcoin and cartel money, to see how they hold up in comparison.

As for my use of the term “cartel money,” it’s the best short description I know for the dollars, euros, yen (and so on) that we use in our daily commerce. They are produced by secretive and monopolistic groups of private banks. That rather precisely matches the definition of cartel.

Principle #1: For wherein you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.

I think by now we have all heard the big accusation against Bitcoin – that it is used for “money laundering” – made especially by the money cartels (the European Central Bank first).
