Debt Ceiling Talks Stall Further, Dems Push on Reversing Sequester

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) speaks on "Face the Nation," Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013.

As the debt-ceiling deadline fast approaches, talks between Republicans and Democrats have digressed.

“There was some movement a couple days ago and I think things are not moving now,” Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) said on “Fox News Sunday.” “A couple nights ago it looked like there maybe was a way to go forward. I think the Senate Democrats have pulled back at the request of the White House and now may be trying to look at busting sort of busting the budget caps that were established back in 2011.”

“I do think we will see our way through this, but the last 24 hours have not been good,” Corker said.

Events over the weekend have made the likelihood of a deal by Oct. 17 appear increasingly uncertain as Democrats seek an agreement that includes removing budget caps and raising the sequester levels established in the 2011 Budget Control Act.

China’s Official Press Agency Calls For New Reserve Currency, And New World Order

We assume it is a coincidence that on the day in which we demonstrate China’s relentless appetite for gold, driven by what we and many others believe is the country’s desire to have a call option on a gold-backed reserve currency when the time comes, just posted in China’s official press agency, Xinhua, is an op-ed by writer Liu Chang in which he decries the “US fiscal failurewhich warrants a de-Americanized world” and flatly states that the world should consider a new reserve currency “that is to be created to replace the dominant U.S. dollar, so that the international community could permanently stay away from the spillover of the intensifying domestic political turmoil in the United States.”

Of course, if China were serious, and if the world were to voluntarily engage in such a (r)evolutionary reserve currency transition, then all Magic Money Tree theories that the only thing better than near infinite debt is beyond infinite debt, would promptly be relegated to the historic dust heap of idiotic theories where they belong.

Some of China’s (which as a reminder is the single largest offshore holder of US Treasury paper, and the second largest of all only second naturally to the Federal Reserve whose $85 billion in monthly monetizing “flow” is what is keeping rates from exploding higher) thoughts as captured in the Xinhua Op-ed:

  • Reform of the world’s financial system should include the introduction of a new internatonal reserve currency to replace the U.S. dollar
  • The international community could thus permanently stay away from the spillover of intensifying domestic political turmoil in the U.S.
  • Fiscal impasse in the U.S. is a good time for “befuddled world” to start considering building a “de-Americanized world
  • Impasse has left many nations’ dollar assets in jeopardy and the international community agonized
  • Other cornerstones should be laid to underpin a de-Americanized world, including respect for sovereignty, recognizing authority of UN in handling global hotspot issues and giving developing and emerging market economies more say in major international financial institutions
  • Purpose of such changes is not to “completely toss the United States aside,” rather to encourage Washington to play a much more constructive role in addressing global affairs

Of course, if and when the day comes that the USD is no longer the reserve currency, kiss America’s superpower, or any power, status, which is now based purely on the USD’s reserve currency status, and the ability to fund half the US budget deficit with debt promptly monetized by the Fed, goodbye.

Finally, as a reminder…

Police in riot gear and snipers being deployed in Washington, D.C.

The “Million Vet March” in Washington D.C. appears to be escalating as reports of barricades being torn down, police in riot gear and snipers being deployed, and a growing crowd at The White House chanting for its shut-down suggest the people are growing restless.

Protesters have gathered in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, according to reports. Photos uploaded to social media websites shows demonstrators removing barricades around parks and marching through the Capitol area.

Park police in riot gear were deployed in front of the facility, said CNN.

Via Epoch Times,

“US Park Police have arrived in front of WH. Some in riot gear! Tea party/veteran protesters start booing,” wrote CNN’s Jim Acosta on Twitter.

America Fumes After Xerox “Routine Backup Test” Leave 17 States Without Foodstamps

Yesterday millions of “shoppers” living on the government dole left their shopping carts in droves in checkout counters, exited countless foodstamp-accepting stores, and made Wal-Marts and other general merchandise stores into veritable ghost towns, after a power outage at Xerox Corp, made EBT usage in 17 states for most of Saturday impossible, and left tens of millions of poverty-level Americans unable to engage in one of their favorite pastimes: shop with other people’s money. In short: the Welfare States of America were probably closer to a state of outright revolution than at any time before in history. And had the EBT stoppage continues into today and tomorrow, things would have certainly spilled out from the shopping aisle to main streets where the people’s anger may have culminated in a violent expression of disgust at a state which gives with one hand and a xerox company that takes with the other.

Chart Of The Day: China Imports Over 2,000 Tons Of Gold In Last Two Years

China has just one thing to say to all those who engage in the now daily slamdowns of gold just around the time of the London fixing, after 8 am Eastern, which lately have gotten so vicious they have resulted in “stop logic” market halts not on one but at least two occasions, keeping the price of gold delightfully low for all those who instead of selling, are looking to buy: “thanks.”

As the chart below shows, in the past two years since September 2011 (ironically the same month we wrote “Wikileaks Discloses The Reason(s) Behind China’s Shadow Gold Buying Spree” namely that the PBOC was quietly seeking to make the renminbi the new gold-backed reserve currency) the mainland has imported an unprecedented 2,116 gross tons of gold from Hong Kong (in addition to the hundreds of tons produced domestically), for the first time crossing the 2k gross ton import barrier in a two year period!

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWmbgjri86s#t=1s

From YouTube:

Thousands took to streets across the world’s cities on Saturday to protest the use of GMO products, with Giant Monsanto being the main target. Over 50 countries have been taking part in the march for world food day, and across 47 different US states. RT’s Anissa Naouai reports.

So veterans showed up at the White House today to protest Monsanto according to this report. I doubt it.
