The Western arms pipeline to the Syrian rebels fighting Bashar Assad is starting to run dry since the discovery that some of the weapons are being resold and used by al Qaeda in its conquest of southern Syrian and takeover of positions on the Jordanian and Israel borders. French President Francois Hollande for this reason reversed his government’s policy. “We will not do it [send the Syrian rebel arms] as long as we cannot be certain that there is complete control of the situation by the opposition,” he said Friday, March 29.
That day too, Ankara announced that Turkish authorities had impounded 5,000 shotguns, rifles, starting pistols, gunstocks and 10,000 cartridges in the village of Akcakale before they were sent across into Syria.
DEBKAfile’s military sources: These steps are effectively putting in place a Western embargo on arms supplies to the Syrian rebels and not only the Assad regime. Saudi Arabia and Qatar remain their only sources of weapons.
This follows information reaching Washington, Paris, Ankara and Jerusalem in recent weeks that parts of the weapons consignments destined for the Syrian rebels, especially the Free Syrian Army, are being resold to Jabhat al-Nusra, the Islamist militia which this week proclaimed itself al Qaeda of Syria amid a major offensive for the occupation of southern Syria.

The following story from Cyprus reminds me of Ben Bernanke testifying before Congress that he would not monetize our debt:

That was back on June 3, 2009. The facts are presented below:
| Gross Federal Debt |
Debt Held by Public |
Debt Held by Federal Reserve |
|
| FY 2013* | $17.5 trillion | $10.6 trillion | $2.1 trillion |
| FY 2012* | $16.4 trillion | $9.7 trillion | $1.9 trillion |
| FY 2011 | $14.8 trillion | $8.5 trillion | $1.7 trillion |
| FY 2010 | $13.5 trillion | $8.2 trillion | $0.8 trillion |
| FY 2009 | $11.9 trillion | $6.8 trillion | $0.8 trillion |
| FY 2008 | $10.0 trillion | $5.3 trillion | $0.5 trillion |
We know where this will end but we do not know when.

Over the past three years, we’ve all seen the effects of censorship and spying as they reach into our email and chat messaging systems. Email disappears or gets hacked, your system slows down, as if someone else is on your computer, and you don’t know where your messages are going. Everything is sent out in the open, like a postcard that is intercepted in transit and stored for future access (yes, the NSA already does this).
All of the largest online services snoop for ad targeting and who knows what. Even if you don’t belong to one of them, if you are a recipient of email sent from them, you’re in their system.
To solve these and other problems, we created Unsene.com over the past year from the ground up. It’s completely developed by BIN and now ready for you to use. This is the first free secure and private communications system built to protect you from hackers, snoops and other threats. We’re offering free usage for our most valued people, the contributors and readers of BIN. To get started, go here:

There was some good news for headline scanning algos this morning, when both personal incomes and spending came in modestly higher than expected, with incomes rising 1.1% compared to an estimated 0.8% increase, while spending was up 0.7%, also higher than the 0.6% expected. But while the superficial headline grab did indicate a modestly better climate for both spending and incomes, it was a look under the cover once again that revealed the full extent of the pain that US consumers continue to find themselves in, over 5 years since the start of the second great depression.
First, the bulk of the bounce in spending was driven by a surge in Non-Durable Goods, which rose by $48.5 billion in one month, and amounting to 61% of the total increase in personal outlays in February. This was the biggest monthly jump since the onset of the financial crisis: hardly inspiring much confidence for those companies which are wondering whether to ramp up capital expenditures and spending, especially since spending on Durable Goods declined by $400 million in February.

Silver gapped up vertically on tonight’s Globex open, as the entire day’s paper raid was erased in the opening tick in Asia…
Meanwhile according to other live metals feeds, silver has gapped-down to $27.88
*Update: All h*ll appears to have broken loose in the electronic paper metals market tonight, as numerous live metals feeds are fluctuating in price by more than $1 in silver, and several metals dealers are reportedly refusing to make any sales as they have no idea what the current price of silver is.
Per the CME the Globex is closed the 28th-31st, and per the HKMEx Hong Kong is also closed Friday the 29th, so we suspect a rogue algo was accidentally left on…

As Senate floor vote looms…
Despite media attempts to lure you to sleep by claiming demand for gun control is waning, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) plans to bring his new and more draconian “universal background check” bill, S. 649, to the Senate floor sometime after Easter. Make no mistake: “Universal background check” is gun control code speech for “universal gun registration,” and would make you a criminal for something as inoffensive as leaving a gun at home with your spouse.
Equally premature are predictions that Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) ban on semi-automatic firearms is dead. Reid has said he will allow a vote on the measure as an amendment to S. 649 — potentially avoiding the requirement for 60 votes for “cloture.”
MAIG Targets Hagan
Amid all of this, Michael Bloomberg’s “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” (MAIG) is making a $12 million multi-state media push, including targeting our own Sen. Kay Hagan (D, GRNC 1-star). Why Hagan? Because her party affiliation and poor 64% pro-gun voting record while in the NC Senate predispose her to support gun control, but the tough reelection bid she faces in 2014 means a vote for gun control might cause her to lose the election.
So where does Hagan stand? Despite her claims to a hunting heritage and her assertion to constituents that she will not “unnecessarily” infringe on your Second Amendment rights, she has dodged the issue until recently, when she first went on record with leftist Chris Fitzsimon of “NC Policy Watch” in favor of some form of background checks. More telling, however, was a recent article in the “Greensboro News & Record,” which said:

(Zerohedge) The CFTC Order finds that from July 2011 through June 2012, the Respondents solicited retail customers, generally by telephone or through Joseph Glenn’s website, to buy physical precious metals such as gold, silver, copper, platinum, or palladium in what are known as off-exchange leverage transactions. According to the Order, the customers paid the Respondents a portion of the purchase price for the metals, and Joseph Glenn and JGCF purportedly financed the remainder of the purchase price, while charging the customers interest on the amount they purportedly loaned to customers.
[T]he CFTC Order states that when Joseph Glenn and JGCF engaged in these illegal transactions they were acting as dealers for a metals merchant called Hunter Wise Commodities, LLC (Hunter Wise), which the CFTC charged with fraud and other violations in federal court in Florida on December 5, 2012 (see CFTC Press Release 6447-12). Hunter Wise was purportedly Joseph Glenn’s and JGCF’s source for the metal and the loans. As alleged in the CFTC Complaint against Hunter Wise and according to the CFTC Order in this case, however, neither Joseph Glenn, JGCF, nor Hunter Wise purchased or held metal on the customers’ behalf, or disbursed any funds to finance the remaining balance of the purchase price. The Order finds that the Respondents’ customers thus never owned, possessed, or received title to the physical commodities that they believed they purchased.

Bring everything in house, folks, and do it NOW. There will be no warning when the coordinated seizure of assets begins – just like in Cyprus, where they were told everything was “just fine” right up to the moment when the banks were locked down, and then it was too late.
