Aqua Berm at Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant Collapses

The 2000 foot long aqua berm holding back the Missouri River flood waters at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant collapsed at 1:30 AM on June 26th. The berm (portion shown above at Ft. Calhoun) is a water filled liner. Power is now being supplied by emergency generators after the main transformers were shut down due to the breach.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has confirmed flooding around two buildings at the plant but it will have no affect on the reactor shutdown cooling or the spent fuel pool cooling. The plant was already shut down for maintenance.

Restore Confidence in Government

House Bill 351 is more commonly known as the Voter Photo ID bill. This legislation is long overdue but common sense has been overridden by political objectives of the Republican Party. The title of this legislation is “Restore Confidence in Government” but the process for this bill’s passage has only destroyed confidence in government.  As shown in the video below, the legislation was displaced two days before crossover. A new bill was drafted (see record here of this legislation) and approved before crossover with no further discussion or negotiations.

And that is the problem. The Republican Party drafted a piece of legislation in the middle of the night that was guaranteed to be vetoed and guaranteed not to be overridden in the House. So instead of passing legislation that would restore confidence in Government, we have the slickest campaign issue for next year’s election.

So Much for the 1st Amendment

The censorship of information is a necessary step to take control of a government, government action or governmental agency. The following story is happening across the country in various degrees. Most of my filming at the general assembly has been without incident. On three occasions, I have had to identify myself, get a press pass or write my name and organization down. No Fly Zone Over Minot, ND Due to “Hazards”

The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a temporary flight restriction over Minot, ND until further notice due to “Hazards”.  The restriction is higher than the restrictions currently in place at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant and Cooper Nuclear Station: 5000 feet vs. 3500 feet.

Missouri River Statistics from the Government

The US Army Corps of Engineers provides detailed information concerning dams in the Missouri River basin. The graphics presented in this article are all documented back to their sources. The consequences of the Fort Peck dam in Montana failing as outlined in the article Missouri River Flooding – Nasa Satellite Images would be the worst catastrophe in our nation’s history.

Minot Flooding Update – June 23

The Souris (Mouse) river will be cresting at a higher level than previously reported: 1566 feet which is 8 feet higher than the previous record. This is the result of the decision by the Army Corps of Engineers to release more water from Lake Darling. The previous record was the release of 5,000 cubic feet of water per second. The COE is now releasing 22,000 cubic feet per second and is expected to increase this to 28,000 tomorrow evening. Once the battle of the levees was lost, the COE literally opened the floodgates in an effort to save the dam.

Is there a villain in this catastrophe? Did the COE act too slowly or did Canada not give them advance knowledge of their actions concerning releases from their dams? Time will tell but we give our prayers and physical support to the people of Minot whose homes will be flooded for at least the next two weeks.

Faded Glory or Chirping Crickets

The Cary News (Wednesday, June 22, 2011) ran a lead story on the front page which caught my attention:

Town’s parks plan reflects diversity: Morrisville considers adding a cricket field to meet demand.

The town of Morrisville feels that a full size cricket field must be built at taxpayers’ expense to meet the wants (not needs) of the growing Asian-Indian population. The town has already built a smaller cricket field for relocated workers in RTP from China and India. The direct cost for this field is not known but it may be part of the $4 million bond issue from 2004 which has been delayed because of economic conditions.

Whose Side Are You On?

Hillary Clinton is questioning Congress concerning which side of the Libya “war” they are supporting (see excerpt below). And that is the problem: we don’t know whose side we are on anymore. Who are we fighting in Yemen? Why are we supporting Al Qaeda in Libya? Are we turning Afghanistan over to the Taliban? Why has the United States abandoned Israel?

The president swore an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. Mr. Obama’s statement last week that the United Nations gives him the authority to engage in military action in Libya can only be described as treasonous. The president of the United States serves to uphold the rule of law based on the Constitution not One World Order. We are now at the point where we as individuals must ask ourselves: WHOSE SIDE AM I ON?

It’s Just a Fantasy – Just Ask the Animal Spirits

The following two graphs from CNNFN.com show a clear delineation between fantasy and reality. The first graph shows the stock market results for the past five days up through noon on June 22, 2011. Every day the market rose based on what can only be described as misinformation.

Does anyone believe that Greece’s economic collapse will not happen? The people in Greece know the answer and are taking to the streets. Spain and Italy are experiencing the “contagion” from Greece as their deficits are coming under further scrutiny. The price of oil is going down due to a worldwide economic slowdown. The housing market news in the United States is bleak. We have less jobs in the United States now than in 2000 but an additional 30,000,000 people are now living in our borders. But somehow, under all of this news, the media and administration spin our illustrious recovery in such a manner that the market rises.

That spin abruptly stopped today. Mr. Bernanke would be making an appearance today at 2:15 in Congress and I wanted to show how the market reacts when faced with incontrovertable evidence (otherwise known as reality) of the true economic picture.

If Voting Isn’t the Answer, What Is?

Last Saturday, while tending a booth at the Sensible Mountain Preparedness Seminar, I wore my America’s Remedy “Voting IS NOT the answer” t-shirt. As is usually the case with this t-shirt, I was asked the following question on more than one occasion: “If voting isn’t the answer, what is?”

It isn’t too surprising to get such a question. After all, most people today believe that the only way to fight for anything in this country is to get someone elected to office. And in a time of such economic and moral chaos, now is the time to vote, vote, vote….right?
