David- You ought to put a “Thumbs up or down” set of buttons on your page, or a view counter, so you can see how many approve of, or see, the post.

I can see the statistics of the site as an administrator. To your point, I would rather that people comment and discuss the post’s contents instead of putting a thumbs up or down.
