Resistance Forming?

The House Judiciary Subcommittee A meeting this morning had two changes:

  1. There was not even standing room available
  2. I was joined by two other video cameras

This attendance and additional media coverage was due to the bills beings discussed but seeing people starting to attend committee meetings and see how our state government works is an important step forward.

As usual, immigration and 2nd amendment legislation was not on the agenda. However the Taxpayers Bill of Rights was but only for discussion. And the discussion was brief: no input from legislators on the committee was allowed and the objections raised by the opposition were not able to be refuted.

Description of HB 188

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO PROVIDE GOVERNMENTAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND PROTECTION TO THE TAXPAYERS BY LIMITING INCREASES IN THE GENERAL FUND BUDGET, TO REFORM THE BUDGET PROCESS, TO ESTABLISH AN EMERGENCY RESERVE TRUST FUND, AND TO AMEND THE NORTH CAROLINA CONSTITUTION TO ESTABLISH A GENERAL FUND EXPENDITURE LIMIT.

This legislation will be brought up in Subcommittee A in the future and we need numbers to show support for responsible fiscal restraint in North Carolina.
