This is our ‘cultural Joy’ leaving. I remember in the 50s when certain comedy was removed from the infant TV schedule and the radio. I really felt sorrow over the fact that I couldn’t hear some of my favorite characters again, and worse yet I couldn’t talk about them because it made people feel ‘bad’. Since then I have accepted most racial changes as I do know that there are unintentional ‘hurts’ which seem to never be properly discussed except in heated circumstances. I’ll bemoan the loss of Dr. Zeus because he was a bedtime favorite just like Uncle Remus.
I am certain the Trump advisors, et al would not agree that Trump belongs among our most recently cultural departed. The sad fact is, he is gone, over and isn’t going to be resurrected. He gave all of us hope and a good model for conducting one’s self in the face of over whelming odds. Won’t ever forget him but I already retired my Trump hats and flags.
Goodbye Dr. Zeus, goodbye Mr. Potato Head. Goodbye President Trump. We’ll see you when Jesus calls us Home.
When I was a kid there were so few blacks on TV I thought Aunt Jemima & Uncle Ben were married.
