These radios would be used in a local area only 2-3 miles radio. You would also need a separate unit from Uniden or Yaesu to monitor your area also. Also understand that these programs can be used out of the box but you need to program them to your group’s specifications.

We just have a SET PLAN in my extended family here in Spokane.
If the power, cable, internet, and cell phones go out, and the new cars do not start, everyone stuffs their wheeled recycle bins and garbage cans (lined with a hefty yard bag) filled with necessities and walks to my house.

Be well,
Gunny

May I suggest that users diversify their radio options? GMRS is affordable, easy to use, and provides a longer reach without a repeater than many radios.
The DTR model is -- as it says in the name -- digital, and thereby vulnerable to an EMP spike or weapon.
Think redundancy and diversification.
For that matter, you could do the SDR-tyes very cheaply, if scanning is all that you wanted.
