Yep, escape and evade and live to fight another day.
It’s good that you brought this up. You know who uses the woods near cities in the summer? Homeless junkies and homos. Because the police seldom, if ever, go in there. Lots of hikers, dog walkers and mushroom hunters to spot and report you. If you’re hiding from a mob for a few hours, the woods might be ok. Otherwise, avoid them. You won’t believe the stuff that goes on in the woods at night. Not every night, but enough of the time. And bike trails that we use for biking, jogging and walking, are often used by low income folks trying to get to work by bike. Occasionally, desperate transients will rob someone on the trail. Or worse. In some areas the government had to put up signs warning people to be alert. They didn’t say be alert for what, but it was transients robbing folks.
Anyone who stays in a city without either a stocked bug out location and the means to get there, or a way to take preps to a bugout location, is the greatest fool.
As usual lots of good advice! Listen to him! I don’t see how a family can make it in a city, long term! There are too many problems, water, shelter, food and saftey.
None the less having a temporary site on your way out is a very good idea!
Long term you will have to have some tillable land with water, I don’t know how you can manage without food and water. We are not mountain men who can survive with what is on your back, even if you have a bike or truck, the amount of supplies required for sustainable living is too much to transport!
Yes some single young men can probably manage, but not a family!
So you need to buy some land for a retreat. One with a cabin or trailer is even better. Use it as vacation spot, as the collapse may not occour!
If money is short, refinance your home and pay for it in cash, remembering to be able to pay taxes! If you can’t manage that, try a group purchase, or make a deal with an old farmer who needs help now, for a place to stay later!
I realize how daunting this may seem, but it is doable! We are again not just facing an economic collapse, but now with our war with Russia and poking the Chinese in the eye with a stick, nuclear war is a very strong possibility! Don’t wait!

So, what if you are a 70+ senior who looks 50ish, still in good shape (1 wonky knee from track & field so I’m gonna be in deep doodoo if I have to take the stairs…), with a couple of wits left to rub together, who has prepped & done best I can to disguise the non-perishable food, meds, camp stove, batteries, radio, propane tanks, etc.,in my apt in a 8-story 55+ bldg. (I’m on 8th flr) but have no possible *other* location to hide out; I do have my axe & sturdy oak 4′ by 2″x2″s (can’t be having guns in Canaduh) & a bad (according to the sheeple) but “can-do” attitude. At least we have metal doors & frames & very narrow entrance halls here! I’ve rigged mine to make break-ins extremely difficult: So, how the heck do I survive the coming bullshit without being able to “bug out”?
Depends. How bad is your neighborhood? Got any friends or relatives close by? No guns allowed? If you can’t “get around that”, get a compound bow, or a powerful air gun. Get a pointy dagger or an ice pick. It’s important to have reliable friends to watch your back. Work on it. Good luck.
Just because it “hasn’t happened yet, in the United States” does NOT mean it can’t or won’t.
God warns us several times to “Flee to the hills.” My thoughts: The city is where the local government/military will have control. Riots, Looting, total chaos. This will need to be controlled first. Then they will go to the “hills.” If you’re in the hills, you’re not a direct threat. However, given today’s warfare, they’ll just drop a bomb on you using drone technology. If Survival is your goal, OK, but we’re all going to die. Best to be assured of your Salvation with Jesus and not fear – you have to die in order to get to Heaven!
