From what I’ve read, Assad was warned and ignored the warnings. The Syrian Army wasn’t being paid. After 14 years of war, Syria was broke. The standard of living there had been destroyed by US sanctions, which hurt the civilians. The US was stealing oil. The Kurds had seized the grain crops. I don’t think the Iranians and the Russians were taken by surprise. I was. I didn’t think it would go that fast. The Syrian Army just refused to fight. A big plan has been unleashed on the world. Something is afoot.
