The affair allegations that derailed Kevin McCarthy’s quest for the speakership, explained

UPDATE: I am fully aware that this is an old article. David asked me to publish it for him as he is still recovering from his surgery. People needed to be reminded why he had to abandon his first attempt at being speaker. The swamp is looking to keep one of their creatures in charge.

Wes

A lot of people I speak to who aren’t deeply involved in American politics are a little confused about what, exactly, is up with the House Republicans these days. Why did Kevin McCarthy remove himself from the running for speaker without even having a vote? And if the problem with McCarthy is that he wasn’t conservative enough, why are people talking about Paul Ryan — who isn’t any more conservative than McCarthy — as possibly being able to step into the breach? What, in other words, is actually going on?

It’s awkward for the media because a key element of the story is a wild allegation for which nobody in journalism seems to have any evidence.

But it’s clear at this point that the rumors — whether or not they are true — have started to play an important role in big-picture American politics. So here goes. People are saying that McCarthy, who is married, is (or was in the past) having an affair with Renee Ellmers, a married Republican member of Congress from North Carolina.

McCarthy’s opponents on the right helped shove him out of the race by threatening to elevate this rumor from Capitol Hill gossip to national news. This explains why he bowed out without insisting on a vote, and it also explains why people think a person with McCarthy-like views might be able to squeak in.

Is the McCarthy-Ellmers rumor true?

This is over 7 years old, what the hell are you bringing this up for now?

People need to remember why McCarthy lost his first attempt to be speaker. Why are you swearing because of article? McCarthy never explained why he stepped down earlier. I seem to be missing your point but I am not missing your anger.

I’m not convinced that, Wes was aware that the article was so old. That should have been pointed out so not to appear as clickbait. If the gentleman had asked the question without swearing would it have been asked in anger?

I asked Wes to post this article for me. I hope to be able to publish again shortly but am still recovering. Why would NCRENEGADE need clickbait? We accept no ads and I don’t care about stats. My point is that there was a reason McCarthy did not pursue the speaker’s position. I also remember Ellmers when she ran for office as a freedom candidate. She threw her constituents under the bus within a month. Ever wonder what happened to her? McCarthy was trash then and he is trash now. And no the anger was there without the swearing.

I meant no disrespect towards you in my comment. This is your site to do with as you please. The headline was confusing and misleading. At least it was to me and I’m assuming, Lee Vail.
I understand and appreciate the discouragement that I sense from you. I’ve followed your site for years now. I too am frustrated with this long slow burn. Like you guys I’ve been in the game for years. I held public office thinking I would help make a difference. After a decade I walked away completely deflated and exhausted.
I’ll close with I didn’t get the feeling that the original comment was made in anger. Maybe frustration, I don’t know. I just want to say what has been mentioned here many times in the past. We’re like minded and we should be sticking together and building relationships in our communities. This community. I wish you a complete recovery and better times ahead. Thank you for your continued service and your support.

The article portends that McFornia’s infidelity is of greater import in the matter of the speaker of the house vote than the energy of maga populism. I am not sure I am willing to bite at that premise quite yet. Besides, there was earlier reports that McFornia has a (male) “roommate” that is wildly and rabidly leftist, which so makes it sound like McFornia is both a closet leftist AND gay-an entirely believable scenario IMHO. I sure don’t know where the truth lies in any of this, but I am not (yet) willing to believe that maga populism is not the driving force that it appears to be in the matter of the speaker of the house vote.

I want to be clear, I am not making any correlation between MTG and McCarthy.

Done caring about this organization. What do I care who the cracker is? I’m still a slave, still feeling the whip. The entire system is corrupted and I will not cheer for it any longer. Burn it all, if they are in federal office, they are the enemy. You don’t join hydra to fight hydra…burn it all. Massive taxes with No representation. Mandatory experimental inoculations, war and money laundering. Hypersexualization of our elementary age children. Executive order after executive order. Federal employees deserves a knuckle sandwich from every constituent on a continual basis till they start holding each other accountable. Literal punch in the head, male or female, equal rights, equal lefts. Make them wanna fence off the capital again, make Them, fearful. When cbdc hits -- game over. Punch a fed in the head day.

gubmint employees may hate their job but love the perks. Very little job performance required because their salary is not coming out of their bosses’ pocket. Compare that to a small business owner who must watch every penny.
