The following video details the House Judiciary Subcommittee A hearing on Friday afternoon, June 3rd. Rep. Deborah Ross is commenting on a portion of HB 36 – E-Verify for state contractors in the opening. The bill’s sponsors reply to her concern but instead of amending the legislation to address her concern, the entire portion is removed from the bill.
For future reference, compromise is an art in which the Republicans have no skill. It is not their fault since they have not been in a position to offer political favors in our state for over 100 years. In this case, Rep. Ross should have been asked if this was the only impediment to releasing this bill for a floor vote. Obviously it was not since she still voted against the legislation and the bill was defeated until 9:30 PM on Friday evening at another meeting.
As you watch the video, keep in mind:
- Capitulation is not compromise
- Rep. Ross was a good sport after her faux pas
- Ask which Republicans did not support immigration reform in this vote
- Rep. Ross’s reaction to her “win” after the vote
Jesse Helms had a great quote in 1959 concerning compromise:
“Compromise, hell! … If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?”
I have to ask who does Rep. Ross she represent: her constituents (including me) or illegal aliens? Capitulation, compromise and back door deals are not the principles upon which America (that’s we are Americans) was founded. Neither party represents these principles in Washington or Raleigh and the consequences of compromise have stolen our children’s future.

she only wants to hear herself blather
she is in love with her over inflated sense of self worth
Yup, they even compromised with Rep Ross and she still voted no. Compromise is what got this nation into trouble.
Ross is simply a very dangerous ultra liberal socialist and makes no apology for it as shown in the video. This is typical style for her..
I do not see anyway she can be representing anything close to a majority of people in her district. Hopefully a candidate can step up and get her VOTED OUT.
These folks are idiots. Capitulation should never be a compromise. Let’s fire her so that she will have to go out and capitalize to make a living.
Rep. Ross demonstrated how she is able to control legislation in the general assembly very effectively. She did not compromise or capitulate: she had the section removed and voted against the bill. Whether her days are numbered until the next election or not, you have to recognize her effectiveness even when out of power. The real question is why she has any power.
