The Lee Side of the Mountain

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has formally submitted Texas Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee to President Obama for the vacant post of Director of Homeland Security.

Lee is aptly named because the “lee side” is away from the wind, and in the case of Ms. Lee, on the reduced oxygen side of life.  One has to assume that the recommendation by the CBC was not made to induce humor into Washington politics.  And the joke could be on America because Obama may well pull one of the dullest knives in the drawer to run the Homeland Security Department.  Some of Ms. Lee’s less than cerebral comments have been:

• During a hearing of the House Committee on Homeland Security concerning the radicalization of young Somali-American Muslims by the terror group Al-Shabaab , Lee suggested that “I would like to have a hearing on right-wing extremist . . .”  That would be those pesky conservatives who disagree with Lee and favor relying on the Constitution.
• During a Congressional hearing concerning the radicalization of prison inmates in America by Muslim extremists, Lee made the following statement “As we look to be informational, we should include an analysis of how Christian militants or others might bring down the country.”  Ms. Lee did not elaborate on how Christians might bring down the country, but we may conclude that it won’t involve clogging highways as they go to church on Sunday morning.
• Ms. Lee has stated that individuals who feel that abortion is wrong “are morally equivalent to the Muslim jihadist who slammed airplanes into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.”  Black women account for about 13% of the female population in America but 36% of all abortions.  Approximately 13 million black babies have been aborted since 1973.  On average, 1,876 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.  Blackgenocide.org.  Perhaps Ms. Lee is fearful that the aborted babies would grow up to be conservatives?  Or perhaps she has Muslim extremists confused with the abortion mills that are decimating the black community.  In her foggy, upside world it is difficult to tell.
• Speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives Lee stated “I would personally just say to those who are listening, maybe you want to turn in your guns.”  Lee did not define who the “you” might be and we can only presume that there are those who might be persuaded to listen to Ms. Lee.

Ms. Jackson Lee represents the Texas 18^th Congressional District, which was established as a minority majority district through the gerrymandering process in 1972.  The effort was designed to give inner city black Democrats a voice in national politics.   In 2012 Ms. Lee retained her seat with 75% of the vote in the general election.  Lee’s predecessor was Barbara Jordan who was widely respected and a common sense legislator who advocated House ethics.  Ms. Lee would not represent a “pimple on the derriere” of former Congresswoman Jordan, but things change and the more vitriolic and irrational one is within the inner city, the more highly one is regarded.

Congresswoman Lee is one of the Congressional race pimps who help foment divisiveness and class and ethnic strife in America.   Lee, Maxine Waters, and Nancy Pelosi constitute the three “headless horsewomen” in the House of Representative because of their often dim-witted and incomprehensible ranting.

Considering the path that the current Administration is taking America, Ms. Lee may well find herself in the position of Director of Homeland Security.  And if another Cabinet level post opens perhaps Obama will choose the Georgia Congressman who thinks that Guam would overturn if everyone moved to one side of the island.  Both would fit right in with Eric Holder and some of the other Administration’s near-do-wells and incompetent bunglers.
