The once-busy port of Seattle has all but shut down.
The Port of Seattle on Sunday, April 27, 2025: EMPTY. This is the 4th busiest port in the nation. Inbound freight from China has STOPPED. Supply-chain disruption will now begin, nationwide. Anyone who has spent time in Seattle can tell you that these docks are always PACKED and the Puget Sound is usually overrun with waiting cargo vessels.
Here is the Marine-Tracker for Seattle: Waiting ships: ZERO. Inbound ships: ZERO. There are presently ZERO cargo ships docked or en-route. There are ZERO containers in the yard, and there are ZERO trucks waiting to haul cargo.
Even if this global trade war is ended tomorrow, it will take a minimum of 30 to 55 days, but more likely at 7-9 months, to normalize supply chains and have available product again. And that’s if everybody calls it off immediately. 40% of cargo vessels leaving China today (vessels that were already paid to make the journey, whether there is a reason to or not) are traveling completely empty. Inbound Shipping container volume is down 80%.
There were always going to be trade disruptions. This is a good time to get stocked up, top up supplies, and avoid travel and unnecessary expenses.
Better get what you need while you can.
it will not take a few months to get back to normal. 2 weeks
max!! Stop trying to scare ever
According to shipping sites, it takes two weeks just for a ship to travel from China To the U.S.. However, from the factory to the retailer takes total of 30-40 days.
Since there are no ships in the que (according to the post) it will be more like 4-6 weeks if everything started moving today.
Are ships continuing to depart from China ports? Until I see differently, I say yes. Diverted from U.S. ports, they likewise can be diverted back to U.S. ports. This happens mid-ocean. Examine the great circle sea ways across the north Pacific. Ships from China skirt right along the U.S. west coast even when heading for Panama.
Diversions may be infrequent, but not unheard of. Rerouting to U.S. ports doesn’t have to begin at port in China.
According to this article (published ten days ago) shipments from China have been cut back.Cancellations of Chinese freight ships begin as bookings plummet
The number of canceled sailings of freight vessels out of China is picking up…

BTW -- Ships will not sail if there are no orders for goods. Also, if this situation continues, it is going to cause very serious problems for trucking companies and the rail lines as well.
The American people ALLOWED (starting with the Clintons) to sell off our entire manufacturing sector to China. We should not only expect to experience the pain that comes from such reckless voting decisions; but DESERVE it. The “dildo of consequences” rarely arrives pre-lubricated.
