There are multiple pieces of pending legislation concerning immigration in the North Carolina General Assembly. HB36 specifically addresses the use of E-verify for contractors who have state contracts. This bill has been relegated (buried) to committees since February 2nd, 2011. As outlined previously, this legislation has been rendered useless through compromises to allow it to even be discussed in the infamous House Judiciary Subcommittee A. James Johnson (NCFIRE) and Bill Gheen (ALIPAC) took the members of this committee to task as shown in the following video:
The people of North Carolina first must acknowledge that the Republican Party promises were the same as Obama’s hope and change. Their party’s slogan should be “Vote Republican: Bait and Switch” and HB 36 is the poster child for their machinations. The 100 day pledge, lack of any meaningful legislation passed and the amount of legislation that was buried in committee is shameful. With crossover looming on June 9th, most of this legislation is dead until 2013.
