I realized in listening that the tv ‘reality’ shows really introduced and normalized, even valorized the ‘calling out’ of their co-contestants as a means of distinguishing themselves and moving toward the top. At the time I completely turned off because I did not see the unnecessary attacks as positive. On the other hand, my young adult children loved the calling out and began to behave that way themselves. Good post. Thank you.
