Unjustified and unnecessary use of overwhelming lethal force. Why no non-lethal methods of takedown like a taser or beanbag shotshell? Who was this man and why were the cops seemingly out to end him?
WRAP technologies…
Suicide by Cop. Poor trigger discipline, excessive number of shots. The woman filming with her cell phone has no survival instinct whatsoever.
They, LE are trying to start the CW for their masters, it appears he had a gun. But when the first shot was fired, he was not pointing the gun at them and was not facing them.
True, however he was not obeying police orders to comply by dropping the gun, getting down on the ground and whatever else they were telling him to do. Do stupid things, win stupid prizes. Also, if this was a black man, the Left would be jumping up and down right now.
Even if he was not following orders what they did to him is unjustified especially because he was facing away from them when they shot him. They all need to be put away…evil bastards
He’s White. Yawn. Nothing to see here.😉
(when is this shit going to stop. the first shot dropped him. why was he shot 30-40 times more)
A dead man cannot sue.
It ain’t television. On the ground doesn’t mean harmless. He still had a gun. If he survived his wounds, he would be put back on the street where he could have another chance at your families. Think about it.
First, having lived in that area and having family from there. Drugged up people wanting to commit suicide does not surprise me. Beckley like most towns in WV are rough at best. For the most part in the rural areas, it is sometimes the wild west.
Second, I am not sure he pointed the pistol at the police. It seemed to me that he clearly wanted to die and had no intention to shoot anyone, he wanted to be shot. I cannot judge until I see a better video and hear what he is saying. But it looked like excessive force to me.
The only thing I would disagree with is saying he had no intention to shoot anyone. You may very well be correct but, you just don’t know that.
I would also say this seemed to be a suicide by cop as others have suggested.
Finally, I agree that why are that many rounds fired? I understand more than one when you are shooting to kill as there are too many instances of multiple rounds of 9MM not stopping a perp in their tracks but, as many rounds as they fired, like the 60+ rounds on the black guy the other day is beyond reasonable.
That is done with intent, they know they have to all be a part of the shooting, like any other gang, when one goes down, they all go down.
That is an interesting point that I did not think of.
If they shoot him in the leg, then bunch of lawyers will say [ thanks you very much ] . The correct corse of action is : drop the damned pistol and raise your hands high.
and if he was given even more lattitude and was able to shoot a cop? That is how police SHOULD deal with these criminals. Would you prefer that poor kid bash some old lady for her wallet? No lets deal with the evil…
Not the movies all you living room Rambo’s. A gun in the hands of an obvious mental case has got to be stopped the moment it becomes obvious they will not lay down the gun. Every officer is trained to know this. These officers showed amazing restraint waiting until the downrange was clear of bystanders. Why so many shots? First shot till last shot was about 3 seconds. I’ve seen about the same time lapse between the winner and the last place finisher in a hundred-yard dash.
Angle of video not to great, distance is a good bit back too. So makes it hard to tell what happened just prior to the first shot. Hopefully bodycam is available and will provide a better view.
All the shots after are what is referred to as ” sympathetic fire” in stressful situations people subconsciously start firing their weapons when they hear a gun shot. Not saying it is right or wrong, just that it does happen. Especially when person involved have never faced such high stress levels.
Now the Monday morning quarter back in me is wondering why everyone was on foot chasing him across the field? Why wasn’t someone flanking him by vehicle? What if any less lethal options where available? The first officer looked to be just on the edge of taser range, 21ft, however the guy was moving around a lot. Lots of unknowns , the clip creates more questions than answered really.
Ultimately however it looks like a classic suicide by coop situation. Do something stupid to get cops to come, get acting out more and more until they shoot you because you dont have the ability to do it yourself for whatever reason. At least he didn’t attack a bunch of random people and no other bystanders got hurt.
This is my option, and like , well you know, everyone has one.
Play stupid games, win appropriate prizes…
Looks like the first shot was his own. The rest followed per protocol.
Perp was DOWN police kept firing, seems each wanted to get their shots in or more shots in. Bottom line a citizen would possibly/likely be prosecuted for continuing to fire once the perp was down, depending on LE jurisdiction. No justification for being a drug addled idiot though, looked to be suicide by cop, and boy did they accomodate him! Expect more insanity, cya.
Funny….what 1 Trigger Pull or a Dbl Tap, can Reflexively set off, in Hyper-Prepped Trigger Fingers.
It’s like Domino’s Falling…except on Triggers.
Discipline…out the window here.🧐🧐 along with Communications.
Tunnel Tunnel Tunnel…Vision.
When your only tool is a gun every problem needs shooting…….LOTS of shooting.
Do we know those were real bullets and not rubber? Sounded like rubber to me. IDK. What I do know is that there is so much mental illness out there. Be careful!
Well, at .14 and again at .26 they probably had cause to drop him. When he turned to face them with a gun in his hand, not following orders, that is a risk to the officers and potentially bystanders. Do NOT walk around with a pistol in your hand… bad things happen.
From the link below: “The court first defined the circumstances under which the use of deadly force would be considered unconstitutional:
“Notwithstanding probable cause to seize a suspect, an officer may not always do so by killing him. Where the suspect poses no immediate threat to the officer and no threat to others, the harm resulting from failing to apprehend him does not justify the use of deadly force to do so. A police officer may not seize an unarmed, nondangerous suspect by shooting him dead.”
Then, Garner set forth examples of circumstances in which deadly force could constitutionally be used: “Where the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a threat of serious physical harm, either to the officer or to others, it is not constitutionally unreasonable to prevent escape by using deadly force. Thus, if the suspect threatens the officer with a weapon or there is probable cause to believe that he has committed a crime involving the infliction or threatened infliction of serious physical harm, deadly force may be used if necessary to prevent escape, and if, where feasible, some warning has been given.””
Having said this, it appears to have been excessive force once the first shot took him down. I understand reflex fire, adrenaline, and all that, and once one officer shoots they all shoot. That is extremely common and needs to be trained out of law enforcement officers.
Excessive force since the first shot took him down? Because he’s down you think he’s not a threat? No one has ever shot anybody from the ground? Nation wide, lot’s of cops got surprised by the “dead guy” getting back up. Same thing for home owners who shot a burglar, thinking he’s been “stopped”. Only to get killed by the “dead” burglar.
At this point I say f*** it.Since there’s no info let’s just say he was a pedophile and they took care of business. Nothing to see here let’s move on please.
It does not take a posse to take one unarmed man in sports clothing to the ground. Unfortunately, “police” in general have become crime managers not crime preventors or crime stoppers. It is time to take the toys away and return cops to street beats, even in rural settings. Street cops knew their people. Which begs the question as to why we need so many police to do a job they openly confess they are scared to perform. This new breed of police officer has become a liability to their communities because they are useless to law abiding citizens. A few police and sheriffs still seek to perform their jobs with integrity and professionalism, but they are a dying breed fighting a lost battle. Crimes like the one in this video, and it is a crime, strip away the veneer LEO hides behind while it becomes equipped with militarized guns, body armor, cars, bullets, and handheld technology. Community concerns and welfare of the residents is not part of the defined duty of these newer officers. Additionally, cops know courts will back them, even in outrageous situations, with decisions of “justified” force by police policy. Courts frequently turn their backs on criminal behavior by LEO because the specific officers are silent or are active participants in community stakeholder crime. This video simply gives form to a growing problem many Americans know a good deal about but are still hoping good policemen will surface who have leadership skills and integrity.
The world is a better place now.
I want to thank most of the commenters here for waking me up to the fact that few of you have ever been in a deadly situation. All the tough guys, posting every day about how tough they are, only to criticize someone who has the spine to face a psycho with a gun. And you wonder why your country is screwed. Look in the mirror.
So how many deadly situations have you been in? I don’t claim to be a tough guy, but have been in more than a few deadly situations. I kept my head and survived, I did not Panick which is what happens in those type of situations and shit goes south. I have commented on my martial arts training, not because I think I am a tough guy, I do not underestimate anyone’s ability’s. How many physical altercations have you been in, just asking, as one of the tough guy commenters.
What is your black belt in?
…Shadow Boxing…10th degree
No gung pow fuk yu.
Yep, you’ve proved it…you’re way too tough for me. Put yourself another notch on your keyboard… I’ll put you in for an award for bravery.
Thanx I deserve that notch.
