California has mobilized hundreds of thousands of citizens to clean up debris along the beaches, including debris from the 2011 Japanese Tsunami. This catastrophic event resulted in radioactive debris being sent into the Pacific ocean from the severely damaged Fukushima Diiachi Nuclear Power Plant. Volunteer debris collectors clean up any debris they find and gather critical information about the Japanese tsunami debris using a comprehensive data card. It is as if each volunteer is a guinea-pig in a massive experiment.

Generous grants from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA) and the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA) have spawned numerous volunteer debris programs including:
- Adopt-A-Beach®
- COASTWEEKS
- WHALE TAIL® License Plate,
- Tsunami Debris Cleanup Project
- Northcoast Environmental Center
- Surfrider Foundation
- Coastwalk California
- Pacifica Beach Coalition
- Save Our Shores
- ECOSLO
- Heal the Bay
- Orange County Coastkeeper
- I Love A Clean San Diego

This is stupidity, the end is near. I wouldn’t be caught any where close to the left coast. I lived in Cal years ago when it was just crazy there because of the people. Now it’s crazy because of what is coming to the shore. Any one in Cal should move now. No wait stay there and keep your craziness there too.
Crock o shiite….the debris is material pulled out to see by the tsunami from the entire
Coast of Japan. It’s taken a couple years for that debris to FLOAT to this hemisphere.
The material from Fukushima is suspended in water and are metalic atoms….they DON’T
float. They do hang in dispersion and eventually settle out to the ocesn floor.
The debris is NOT radioactive and is NOT contaminated with material from Fukushima.
Leave the science to people who studied science, PASSED THE COURSES and actually
work in scientific careers.
I think the radiation detectors on the West Coast make your point moot.
You may all have your learned opinions. If you read my comment again I said “I wouldn’t be caught any where close to the left coast”. You all can go surfing, have a beach party, swim, collect garbage or what ever else you decide to do. I cannot believe that there is not some kind of danger in collecting the debris if they are making people sign wavers. We keep reading of high radiation levels, sea animals dying, and a host of other things happening. When I have to listen to the government continue to tell lies of every thing their hand touches I consider the lies to be lies. “You” can sit and wait for the medical reports and pray all those good citizens are going to be fine. You all can collect sea shells or souvenirs and take pictures of the good time and things the crowd find “I” will stay as far away as possible. That is my prerogative.
David my point is not a moot point. We all have an opinion and belief.
Dan science is NOT the final decision it’s an opinion, Science has been wrong often. Explain the fight of the Bumble Bee.
The Blog says, “This catastrophic event resulted in radioactive debris being sent into the Pacific ocean from the severely damaged Fukushima Diiachi Nuclear Power Plant”. Don’t print some thing and then criticize someone’s comment.
You may want to look at this before you say my point is moot.

I said that Dan’s point was moot.
I apologize. I misunderstood your comment.
