Throttled by Verizon

Image result for verizon sucks

I have moved my business to the new training center and the open house is this Saturday, May 27th at 11:30 AM. There were some kinks and some bright spots to get to this point. There was one area in our infrastructure which I was very pleased with initially: phone and Internet access. We did some research and setup a Verizon hot spot for Internet access at home and the office. The hook was twofold: unlimited Internet access and a faster connection than DSL.

But then everyone knows what is coming next. Imagine our surprise at getting 12.9 Mbits instead of 1.5 Mbits with the new system. Until the fine print kicked in at 10 GB and we were throttled down to 1.5 Mbits pending the next 30 day cycle. Verizon’s response was typical: they are working on it.

Multiple emails later with no response has led to the next cycle where I was expecting 12.9 Mbits again for a period of time. However, the new speedtest is now 0.4 Mbits. At least I do not have to worry about the 10 Gbit cutoff since our new “Internet access” has effectively throttled us.

I refuse to deal with Verizon. 15 years ago or so I had a cell phone account with them for business. The company that I worked for paid the bill along with several others who also had Verizon. Because the company was multi-national they did not dictate which company you could use and they had the cell phone companies submit the bill directly to them. The multiple Verizon accounts they paid with a single check.

I was on a business trip and had my phone cut off. I called Verizon and they said it was for nonpayment. I called the company and they said it was paid and would contact Verizon with the check number that had been cashed. It took three days to get my phone back on.

Then two months later I started receiving collection letters from Verizon’s collection department which was a separate company they set up for collections. The total amount they were asking for was not only the amount that they erroneously thought had not been paid but also for penalty fees for early cancelation of the contract for a total of $750.00 or there abouts.

I called Verizon and they said that their records showed that the account was active and current. It appears as soon as they cut the phone of they turned it over for collections to a collections company which through a little research I found out Verizon owned. I could not get Verizon to correct the matter with the other company and the other company insisted that I pay the amount in question which I would not do. I had the amount indicated as in dispute.

Later we went to refinance our house to lower the rate and the bank said that I had to pay the amount before they would process the loan. I explained the situation and although they said that they understood that because it was on the record as an uncollected debt it just needed to be paid so they could process the loan. Another call to Verizon who didn’t care and I was no longer a customer. The bank paid the amount as part of the loan so they could process it. I will use two tin cans and a long string before I ever use Verizon again. They own the rights to the domain Verizon sucks.com and several other such sites which they bought up when they started in business. I guess they knew what type of company they would be from the start.

I left AT&T because of their “slow” speeds of 4 to 5 Mbps even though I was paying for 6 Mbps. Verizon told me their speeds average 12 to 17 Mbps until you reach 10G of data then drops to 3G speeds. I asked what “3G speeds” are and was told 4 to 6 Mbps. In actuality, just one week into the billing cycle, my speed dropped to .4 Mbps. So we have fast internet for one week of the month and after that we have virtually no internet. No Netflix, no Youtube… can’t even sit there and wait for weather radar. And this is what they call an “UNLIMITED” data plan. And they charge $110 per month for this lie.
