What Does America Represent Today?

The original Star Trek was well known for addressing social issues: war and its consequences was a recurring theme. Forty-five years later, we are on the precipice of either a third world war or a civil war. The dilemma posed in this video is only meant to make you think about what America represents now and what it represented in 1776 when our actions pertaining to war were clearly represented.

“There will also be wars and rumors of war”. Wars fought for economic or political expediency were the rule rather than the exception in the past century. The other kind of war is one based on ideology. This type is usually fought over religious ideologies but the consequences of a soldier fighting for religious or moral convictions is a war to the death.

Our American Revolution was a religious war. England called it the Presbyterian War. Its cause was simple: No Taxation without Representation. This meant that the King of England did not have the right to take the fruits of our labor without compensation. This would in effect make us slaves to England which was contrary to God’s natural laws. God gave us freedom and no one must ever be allowed to take it from us: including our own government.

The worst kind of war is the one where one side is fighting for religious or moral convictions and the other side is not. This was the case in our American Revolution. Whether the next war is a civil war or a world war, a civil war will at least be fought for freedom. Do we have the internal fortitude shown by our forefathers? Do we believe in the Declaration of Independence or have the following words fallen into obscurity along with our morality?

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

Let us make a reasoned decision as a nation based on the rule of law instead of the rule of men in Washington, DC and Wall Street.
