Who Are We? The First Step to Building Tribe

There has been much discussion about a course of action now that the elections are over. But in reality, these discussions have been ongoing for several years. The problem we face is simple: we have built our foundation on sand instead of rock. If we do not define our personal beliefs first, we can never build a tribe (or country) in the future:

What are the essential threads of philosophy that bind us in common cause?  What do we believe and how do we make our belief explicit?  Can we state our beliefs so clearly and concisely that they function as a beacon to attract and retain conservative patriots in our cause?

Who Are We? What Binds Us Together?

His second analysis focused on people’s values.  But now we have come to a nexus in time where people have seen their efforts to promote a particular cause/agenda or a political party has not produced the expected results. What is our course of action now?

People. We have to build a foundation based on personal values first and adopt them within a tribe. And then the hard part:  we have to live up to this commitment.  These values are classified as abstract nouns: we cannot touch them. Unfortunately most of us do not even know their definitions. I have provided a list of these abstract nouns with the best definition for the purpose of building a foundation, personally first and then within a tribe. Don’t just read these definitions: analyze them and ask yourself if you agree with the definitions as you apply them in your life. 

Courage

The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., regardless of fear.

Duty

An act or a course of action that is required of one by position, social custom, law, or religion.

Honesty

Freedom from deceit or fraud. 

Honor

Honesty, fairness, or integrity in one’s beliefs and actions: a man of honor.

Humility

A modest or low view of one’s own importance; humbleness.

Integrity

Adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.

Morality

Conformity to the rules of right conduct; moral or virtuous conduct. 

Righteousness 

The act or quality of being upright or moral. 

Virtue

Conformity of one’s life and conduct to moral and ethical principles; uprightness.

Except for duty, the definitions of these values are intertwined; something that our forefathers clearly understood. For example: you cannot be a moral man if you do not have virtue or integrity. Duty to your family, tribe, country or the Lord must be accompanied by all of these values. 

Who among us is willing to compromise any of the above? Compromise should be considered under certain conditions but there must never be any compromise when it comes to our Liberty or our values: 

“Compromise, hell! That’s what has happened to us all down the line — and that’s the very cause of our woes. If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?”

Compromise

A settlement of differences by mutual concessions; an agreement reached by adjustment of conflicting or opposing claims, principles, etc., by reciprocal modification of demands.

So what is the next step? Once understood, these values must be agreed upon within a tribe and a pact between the members consecrated. And “consecrated” is the word that needs to be understood.

Pact  

An agreement, covenant, or compact. 

There have been two concepts which have hindered our effort to restore Liberty: leadership and religion.

The majority of groups have argued against any form of leadership for various reasons. The reality is that no war is won without leaders providing effective strategy. No one likes to be told what to do but the reality of our situation can no longer be ignored. Where are our leaders? They are already here if you have ears to hear and eyes to see. Most are writers or commentators but they are risking their Liberty in their attempt to show people a more effective course. The reason that most people cannot recognize our leaders is due to the simple fact that they do not understand the set of values that are mandatory for personal and group leadership. Once you put values back into your life, not only will you draw people to you to build an effective tribe, you will be able to recognize leaders. Ask yourself who would you follow and you will see our leaders. 

Religion

1. A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

2. A specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons.

Our religious leaders have let us down in the same fashion as the fractured grass roots groups. As they argued their ignorance for no leaders, they also argued their ignorance against religion. The few who did understand the value of religion in this war were marginalized for “the cause”. Without a “moral code governing the conduct of human affairs”, we lack the values required for Liberty.

The following quotes by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams show the importance of values outlined above. Ask yourself what you did today that were examples of these values? When was the last time you spoke one of these words? Once we live the values that established this country, we will have taken the first step to building an effective tribe.

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

“Liberty can no more exist without virtue and independence than the body can live and move without a soul.”

“Public virtue cannot exist in a nation without private, and public virtue is the only foundation of republics.”

“It is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue.”

Most excellent read and I enjoyed the links to previous posts. As I posted the other day on Liberty & Preparedness on Freedom & Faith…

From the very beginning it was recognized that our freedom and our rights were not granted to us by some form of government.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Our very existence and all that it was meant to be was a gift from the Creator and only through Him could true freedom and meaning be found…

2 Corinthians 3:17
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Ephesians 3:12
12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

But many have forgotten that very essential truth. They have forgotten that in Him is our freedom and that our government was meant only to protect the rights He gave us and to act a servant not a master.

“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

Many have subjugated themselves to the government that was once meant only to serve. They have sold their true freedom for the “gifts” their masters have found it in their best interests to bestow upon them. The masters take what they deem necessary, to give out as they see fit but only after keeping a lion’s share for themselves and the empire they have created, All too willing are even “good”men to dictate to the people what they should do and how and when they should do it for the good of the many while really serving only themselves.

Still it is possible to reclaim your freedom and cast off the yoke of the masters.

Galatians 5:1
1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

It is possible to free yourself through faith and by that faith all who truly wish to be free, will in the end be free.

The choice is yours…
