Step by step…ZH report. The bankers love it.
“Iran was the third-largest urea exporter in 2024, according to StoneX, with export volumes of around 4.5 million tons – about the size of China’s. The country has a production capacity of around 8.9 million tons a year, Milam added, serving markets in Turkey, Brazil and Argentina, among others. It is also an exporter of ammonia.”
“In addition to knocking Iranian urea production offline, the attacks also brought Egypt’s operations to a standstill,” Ward reported. “Israel reduced its natural gas flows to the country on Friday, prompting Egypt to cease production.”
AgWeb’s Margy Eckelkamp reported that “Linville’s colleague at StoneX, Arlan Suderman, details why this conflict is being watched so carefully if the concern isn’t in those two countries’ production. ‘There’s a lot of other producers of fertilizer in the Middle East and a lot of it also passes through the Strait of Hormuz, which will be at risk going forward now,’ Suderman says. From a global supply standpoint, Suderman also points out the Ukrainian attack of one of Russia’s largest nitrogen fertilizer plants two weeks ago.”

They want to have an economic shock in the west as payback for the attack. It also depends if this is a selective blockade, since a lot of the tanker traffic is China. The immediate goal may be to force US Naval assets to respond and get in close enough to play catch the missile just like in the Red Sea.

I read that oil is being rerouted via rail to China.
“In 2024, the United States imported about 0.5 million b/d of crude oil and condensate from Persian Gulf countries through the Strait of Hormuz, accounting for about 7% of total U.S. crude oil and condensate imports and 2% of U.S. petroleum liquids consumption.”
This will hit Europe more than the US.

Yes, but remember the world syndicate lumps all petroleum into a “market”, so the price will take a hit anyway.

I wonder if Israel will do something to mitigate the rail traffic to China? Stop the supply to China without damaging Iran’s oil infrastructure. Seems like a win-win to me. This would give the Iranian people a chance to rebuild after they depose their hated Mullahs, and reduce China’s ability to cause problems at the same time.

And the US Navy may find submarine netting, hundreds of gen7 anti-ship mines, as well as cargo vessels packed with 50 tons of explosives. But by all means; just sachet your asses right in there. Your ego’s will protect ya.

No side taken but trying to project with available lies facts:
Israel has severely incapacitated Iran’s air defenses.
Iran has taken the bait–closing the Straits…
…prompting ‘justified’ retaliation/escalation to slap those shia muzzies upside dey haids.
Iran’s conventional oil-fired power plants were left untouched during these past 10 days. It would take just a few hours to make the country dark.
And, if they activate terror cells here in FUSA, everything conventional would be on the table.
A country can be bombed to rubble without nukes.
The final runs will “bounce the rubble.”

When Iran slams Hormuz shut–which US naval ships is going to be first to enter that shooting gallery? Is it going to be sold on TV, on FOX and Hannity as another “remember the Maine” moment? Probably yes, but this time much slicker–and with an catchy operational catch-name. Mark my words, they are already in the ‘writer’s room’ at this very moment, thinking up the propaganda strategies to pull on the American public… and most ass-wipe conservatives will lap it up like a pupa-chino.

While the Iranian Parliament DID vote to close the Strait of Hormuz, I’ve seen no action taken by the Ayatollah or the IRGC. The feeble attack by Iran on Qatar–for which the US was given advance warning– would seem to be a theatrical, face-saving, effort, and a sop to the radical parts of its population. “Don’t worry, Jihadis! We gave the Americans a real shellackin’. Death to America!”
Oil prices dropped today after the Iran’s minimal response was interpreted as being a message that Iran would take Saturday’s attack on the chin.
Was this attack today a mere subterfuge to give the US a false sense of security? Note that Iran is still capable of a “dirty bomb” attack on US cities and ports.
Ask me in a month how it turned out.
