4000 klicks is roughly 2100nm, think San Francisco to New York as an idea how deep the penetration is.

It absolutely boggles my mind that Putin cannot put a stop to these long-range incursions. I would think after this “Russian Pearl Harbor” Kiev would be turned into a glowing cat litter box. Maybe, just maybe, Putin and the Russian military are what their detractors say they are: “All hat and no cattle.” What do you think, my friends?

According to Ukrainian intelligence officials cited by CBS News, the aircraft destroyed include Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 bombers, which play a central role in Russia’s strategic and nuclear-capable long-range aviation forces.

If this is true it’s a huge red line crossed by Ukraine and NATO. I don’t see how Putin can continue to be patient.

Zerohedge on the drone attack.

I’ve been kicking that around. Part of me thinks Putin is enough of a statesman that he is practicing restraint to try and avoid a much bigger blow up involving NATO members in the EU, and/or with the US. But the flip side of that is he cannot go on making such allowances (if in fact that is what he’s actually doing) as it makes Russia start to look weak and incapable of projecting force equal to that being used against them. At least when taking spanking like the one they received today.

Really, Putin has slow rolled much of the Ukraine op. Whether this is due to a “slow and steady wins the race” mindset prevailing, or because he simply couldn’t deliver the resources to move faster than they have so far, is unknown to me. That Russia has made enormous progress in the taking of territory and destroying Ukrainian troops and assets, and is in the senior position now in terms of negotiations for peace, as I see it.

Bracken has been talking about this very specifically for a few years. Several of our foreign enemies are likely pissed that this has previewed the game plan for taking down the US Military when the time comes.
All of the serious militaries around the world will now be scrambling to rewrite national defense doctrines in light of this, and that will almost certainly include major reductions in manned combat aircraft and surface warships. National borders will have to get tighter to control hostile infiltration and drones of all types to include hobby/recreational will need to be severely restricted. Everyone has seen this coming, and it looks like no one has tried to get ahead of this before it bites them on the ass.
As our own military is a monolithic bureaucracy and the World’s slowest learners, I’m sure they will only pay lip service to this and continue to invest trillions we don’t have in 7th generation manned stealth fighters and batman bombers.
