Thanksgiving meal is to give thanks to the Lord and all HIS blessings! No we ought NOT talk about things that divide but rather things that bring peace. Be a peacemaker, Not a warmonger.

we have been far too quiet and/or silent as our Republic has been inch by inch taken away. We best start makin’ one hell of a racket, before the rest of it is taken away. DRenegae, total agree, silence accomplishes nothing.

I don’t agree. Everyone at the table should know where everyone else stands. To NOT talk about what is happening in our country is to allow the bullies to win. Allowing that to happen is to give license to those who would see us destroyed prevail, and there won’t be any more Thanksgivings to celebrate.

Know where we stand, absolutely.
Think we’re obsessive-compulsive fanatics about it, not so much.
Maybe it’s a Southern girl thing…I like to see how long it takes someone I don’t know well to ASK me for an opinion. Of course they could read my blog! I like the idea that if they talk to me at a holiday party once in a decade, they’ll remember me as the one who was interested in them and their interests.
At least that’s the goal.

Adrian Rogers stated, “It is better to be divided by truth than united in error. It is better to speak the truth that hurts and then heals, than falsehood that comforts and then kills.”

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.”

I would remind you that extremism in defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue!

Extremism is just what it says. It can go to far and often does, then justice seems to go by the way side.

We talk about many things and all things at the table. And am grateful in being able to do so. Strength (wisdom) is also in knowing what to say and how to act and react. Not just for one day, but each and every day.
His Word can also be a divider. We should be aware and led towards an understanding of this.

The question is whether they can be persuaded to share our urgency, or whether locking horns will only make them more stubborn opposition. I don’t think it’s appeasing evil to spend the one day I see a relative, in 5-10 years, just getting to know the person as a person--religion and politics aside. Would hate to have them think “If I became a Christian, voted for conservative fiscal policy, got married, went to college, became a full-time parent, etc., wouldn’t that make me an overbearing bore like THAT relative who CORNERED me and PREACHED at me on Thanksgiving Day?”
