‘It has to come down’: Protesters call for monument’s removal from courthouse square

Terry Griffin Sr. of Antioch Outreach Church Ministries in Wilson calls for a monument’s removal from the Wilson County Courthouse grounds Wednesday. Drew C. Wilson | Times

Peaceful protesters united Wednesday and called on county officials to remove a nearly century-old monument from the courthouse square that displays an image of the American flag and Confederate battle flag.

“It has to come down,” said Michael Clanton, pastor of Antioch Outreach Church Ministries in Wilson. “It represents hate to me.”

Pastor my rear end, why doesn’t he spend his time preaching to his flock about Gods mercy and salvation instead of spreading hate and lies. who is the racist here Pastor, you are. Look at yourself in the mirror, you hypocrite. there will be a special place in hell for frauds like you. leave the memorial alone, as for slavery many races were enslaved and I have no pity on your slavery anyway, go collect your reparations money from the African tribal Kings who sold you ancestors to the Dutch and British, go get your money from them.

The majority of these Howdy Doodie Clowns are all shake down scam artists with matchbook degrees in church pastorships. Satans Whores is all they are.

Earl Ijames from the above link found proof that there were confederates of color who served with honor in the CSA.

Gen. Nathan Bedford Forest was a slave owner. When the war broke out and he left to fight the Northern aggressors, he offered his slaves an option. Come fight with him and at wars end he would free them. Refuse and if the South lost they’d be free anyway. All but one elected to follow him into battle wearing the gray. They’ve hidden or lied about history just like they’ve hidden and lied about everything else.

OK then. Do I get to have everything removed from public view that represents hate to me? I’ve developed quite a list.

How about MLK? The guy beat White prostitutes in hotel rooms, and the FBI listened to it all. He should be “me too’d” out of public consciousness permanently. Former golden boy Bill Cosby got taken down for not much different proclivities, so it is a workable vector of attack. Besides, nobody is untouchable. We can start by getting rid of that giant turd sculpture memorializing him that was recently installed.

The Confederate battle flag had absolutely nothing to do with slavery. The Civil War was not fought over slavery. The Civil War was fought over taxes. The first slave owner in the United States was a black man named Anthony Johnson. Maybe Black History month should offend him.

Sir, the war of northern aggression was a conflict over the rights of the state’s verses the tyrannical will of the federals not simply taxes. You are however correct that was one of numerous issues,

I have fought this battle for years , but remember the winners get to write the history. I could go on and on about this subject but I won’t. But I will say there wasn’t a civil war fought on the American continent in the 1860’s . But there was a war fought for southern independence. Look up the definition of Civil War . Nuff said .

You are correct Live free or die. States had the right to leave the Union during that time period if they so chose. Lincoln wanted to remove that right.

Absolutely, for some reason a lot of folks think that the states are somehow bound by chains to the “union”, the states entered freely and should leave freely.
Sadly, after the war of northern aggression our N.C. state constitution was rewritten and an amendment that “We shall forever be part of the united states and have no right to secession” was added, which to a true patriot is disgusting.
