Two Republican senators introduced an amendment Wednesday to get rid of Columbus Day and make Juneteenth a new federal holiday.

Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson and Republican Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford introduced the amendment to legislation introduced by Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn which would make Juneteenth a federal holiday.

“In response to a bipartisan effort to give federal workers another day of paid leave by designating Juneteenth a federal holiday, we have offered a counterproposal that does not put us further in debt,” Johnson said Wednesday, Fox News reported. “We support celebrating emancipation with a federal holiday, but believe we should eliminate a current holiday in exchange. We chose Columbus Day as a holiday that is lightly celebrated, and least disruptive to Americans’ schedules.”

Rioters Destroy Historic 120-Year-Old ‘Elk Fountain’ Statue In Portland

Political commentators online ridiculed the rioters for destroying the statue, noting that it had nothing to do with the racial injustices that they claim are the focus of their “protests.”

“Good,” commentator Stephen Miller quipped. “Racist elk had it coming.”

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton wrote: “The communist revolution will burn anything and everything.”

When traffickers in intellectual gobbledegook have free reign, the Truth Irrelevancy Project’s work is done.

Truth is always the enemy of power. Exposure of power’s motivations, depredations, and corruption never serves power’s ends. Truth is often suppressed and those who disclose it persecuted. Any illegitimate government (currently, all of them) that fails to do so risks its own termination.

What if, instead of suppressing the truth, a regime could render it irrelevant and not have to worry about it? That prospect is the Holy Grail for those who rule or seek to rule.

By now most people recognize war is being waged. “Make the Truth Irrelevant” was published before Covid-19 or the George Floyd protests and riots, but it offers the perspective necessary to understand who is waging war against whom, and what’s at stake.

Science is one way humanity searches for truth. The Covid-19 panic and response are a direct assault on what remains of science. All of the hysteria and the political reaction to it are driven by models and projections, which are nothing more than hypotheses.

It is said that models are only as good as the underlying data and assumptions they incorporate, but that’s misleading. They may use the best available data and assumptions and still be wildly off the mark. For any model of a complex phenomenon—the weather, the climate, financial markets, or the progression of a disease—substitute “our best guess” for the word “model” and you have a better understanding of what the model actually is.

“Our best guess” also depends on who’s doing the guessing. The Covid-19 models that have been accepted and heavily publicized are the ones with the most dire projections for cases and deaths. The projections have generated the fear and panic necessary to support unprecedented restrictions on freedom and individual rights—lockdowns, business closures, involuntary unemployment, social distancing, and face masks—and a concomitant expansion of governments’ power, essentially rule by decree.

It is a common refrain that no one is coming to save you, but it’s worse than that, the ones paid to come to save you will probably come to get you for some violation of thought or intent. There’s a new sheriff in town and he ain’t your friend. You are the worst; the cause of all manner of horribleness over the past centuries and the only way the sheriff can save himself is to imprison or murder you. You and your kind.

What is happening, intentionally, is the Democrat party is playing its old tricks on new people. Just as the Democrat party ruled over such things as slavery, Jim Crow laws, a Supreme Court who ruled slavery not only valid, but blacks as property that must be returned to their owner should they escape slavery are now turning the tables and using the same tactics to validate racism against whites. No one wants to hear white people talk about the injustices done to them, like no one in the Democrat party wanted to hear blacks talk about the injustices done to them.

It’s easy to get distracted by Antifa and BLM, a hostile media, corporate sell outs and all of that, but think of what the Democrat party has experience with that no other political party in America does: slavery, oppression, racism, hatred, KKK membership, segregation, etc, etc. They know what they are doing when it comes to demonizing and turning one race against another. The Republicans aren’t even visible. They are passive, choosing now to embrace the mask to placate the woke, so don’t count on back up coming from that direction. They are failures, complicit in the loss of liberty in America, escorts to the enemies of the people. 

But, the Democrats, in order to win this election, like many others in the past, need it to be about race, (they can’t win on any other platform) BLM needs it to be about race, Antifa needs it to be about race, CEOs of corporations and owners of sports organizations need to assuage their white guilt by making it bout race and pointing at you, not them. Yet, they don’t want to do the things that would make a difference. They will nudge each other knowingly and appoint someone to do something, but none of it will ever touch them, affect them, it is a ruse the wealthy Democrats have been using to avoid the real issues of racism for decades. But, the woke crowd is coming for everyone, (or so they say) so lets not let them nibble around the conservative landscape when there are much juicier pastures to be grazed.

The USA has gone so crazy in these months of the coronavirus freak-out that an orgy of looting, arson, and murder, on top of epic job loss and business failure, propelled the stock markets up-up-and-away back to near-record highs.

Makes sense, right?

The market came down a bit towards the end of the week, but don’t worry. The Fed will make another announcement that it’s going to do something or other and presto, the market will be off to the races again.

In the background of these weeks of protests, riots, looting, and arson is the disintegrating economy, which signifies that pretty much everybody in this land will not be able to keep on keeping on in the ways we’re used to.

Reduced Living Standards

Everybody will have a harder time making a living. Everybody will endure shocking losses in wealth, status, and comfort. And, sadly, everybody will be too perplexed and bamboozled by the rush of events to understand why.

The short version of that story is we’ve overshot our resources, especially the basic energy resources that all other activities require.

This mystifies the public, too, but you can boil it down to the cost of getting oil out of the ground being too high for customers and not high enough for the oil producers to cover their costs — a quandary.

One result has been the rapid bankruptcy of the shale oil industry. Another is the incremental impoverishment of what used to be America’s broad middle-class — a malady that has, just for now, fenced off the denizens of Wall Street, the notorious One Percent (of the population), who still luxuriate in zooming share prices and dividends while everybody else sucks wind in a ditch with-or-without the added affliction of Covid-19.

The perplexed and bamboozled include the entire leadership nucleus of the land, who seem starkly unable to act coherently in the tightening vortex of crisis.

Beware the 4th of July

Events are rushing ahead at a pace you can barely follow. Summer is underway and why, now, would you expect any lessening in civil disorders?

The summer heat is always an invitation to raucous behavior on the steamy streets. Have Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi appealed to their followers to end their violence?

Maybe I missed that. They are hinting at a return to Covid-19 lockdown conditions — but you can forget about anyone following that when the temperature tops ninety degrees (and certainly the Dem leadership knows that).

Meanwhile, the devastation of small business, careers, livelihoods, households, and futures continues.

Then, there’s the sinister joker-in-the-deck next week. It’s called the Fourth of July. It’s hard to imagine a fatter target for those who are truly intent on making things as bad as possible than that particular holiday. Hey, they’ve already torn down statues of George Washington.

What else is left to trash?

Take measures to protect your own future, as far as possible. Put your energy into imagining how you can be helpful to other people, and perhaps incidentally earn their trust and their assistance in mutually beneficial ways.

Think about finding a plausible place to live where the rule of law perseveres. Think about how you might fit into an economy run at a smaller scale. Start taking action on that thinking.

There’s potential for a lot of people to get hurt in the disorders-to-come.

There’s plenty you can do to not be one of them.

The statue of Christopher Columbus that sat on the Broad Street side of Columbus City Hall has been removed after Mayor Andrew Ginther called for it to come down.

Crews arrived around 3 a.m. Wednesday and it took about three hours once the crane was in place to get the statue removed. 

On June 18, Ginther announced the statue would be removed saying it does not represent the values of the city. He asked the Columbus Art Commission to launch a community-driven process to embrace diversity.

The statue was a gift from the people of Genoa, Italy in 1955.
