I began looking for a quality 20MOA scope mount. I wanted a canted scope mount so that if and when I ever stretched it way out, I would have plenty of elevation adjustment. I settled on a Leupold Mark 4 cantilever 20MOA one piece mount in 30mm ring size.
I initially put an Athlon Argos 6-24×50 on it with plans to use it to function check it and break it in. As luck would have it, SWFA had a sale and the $850 Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27×50 went on sale for $300 off! Ordered one and I really like it.
It is a first focal plane mil/mil scope with illuminated tree reticle with .2 mil hash marks.

I’m not going to rehash the reasons why mil based scopes are better, I have done that before and all of the information is out there if you want it.
It has made a really nice rifle, it checks off all of the blocks I was after. At over 15 pound with a full magazine and the mild nature of the Creedmoor it should be a pleasure to shoot.

In part 4 we will see how it shoots and functions. Stay tuned.

Rwanda has closed part of its border with DR Congo, where an Ebola outbreak has killed more than 1,800 people in the past year.
At least two people have died from the virus in the past month in the crowded Congolese border city of Goma.
It is the worst Ebola outbreak in the nation’s history, with at least 2,700 people so far infected with the virus.
And the outbreak has been complicated by an active conflict zone, leading to attacks on healthcare workers.
About 12 new cases are being reported every day in DR Congo, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports.
