Closing the ‘Collapse Gap’: the USSR was better prepared for collapse than the US

Orlov

I anticipate that some people will react rather badly to having their country compared to the USSR. I would like to assure you that the Soviet people would have reacted similarly, had the United States collapsed first. Feelings aside, here are two 20th century superpowers, who wanted more or less the same things – things like technological progress, economic growth, full employment, and world domination – but they disagreed about the methods. And they obtained similar results – each had a good run, intimidated the whole planet, and kept the other scared. Each eventually went bankrupt.

In terms of racial and ethnic composition, the United States resembles Yugoslavia more than it resembles Russia, so we shouldn’t expect it to be as peaceful as Russia was, following the collapse. Ethnically mixed societies are fragile and have a tendency to explode.

The American way of dealing with dissent and with protest is certainly more advanced: why imprison dissidents when you can just let them shout into the wind to their heart’s content?

The American approach to bookkeeping is more subtle and nuanced than the Soviet. Why make a state secret of some statistic, when you can just distort it, in obscure ways?

Asking, “who will build the roads, without government?”,

is like asking,

“who will pick the cotton, when we free the slaves?”.

But who will build the roads?

Americans Bought Guns at a Record-Setting Clip on Black Friday

TINLEY PARK, IL - JUNE 16: A customer shops for a handgun at Freddie Bear Sports on June 16, 2014 in Tinley Park, Illinois. In a 5-4 decision the Supreme Court ruled that it is a crime for one person to buy a gun for another while lying to the dealer about who the gun is for. The law had been challenged by retired police officer Bruce Abramski who was charged with making a 'straw purchase' after buying a gun for his uncle, a lawful gun owner, in order to get a police discount at the dealer. When asked on the paperwork if the gun was for him he checked yes. Scott Olson/Getty Images

Forget the Xboxes, iPhones and Tickle Me Elmos — Americans were really going crazy for guns this Black Friday, in record-setting numbers.

The typical Black Friday boom in gun sales doubles the number of background checks handled by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), from one per second on an average day to two per second.

By Friday afternoon, that figure had reached three checks per second, CNN reported, putting 2014 on track to blow past the prior Black Friday record of 144,758 FBI-processed gun transactions in a single day.

I can only conclude that the number of sentient people in this country is growing. I will define sentience as gaining the knowledge that our “government” has become the enemy. One thing has not changed since 1750, we will never accept tyranny. What is the next step? Buying a firearm without proper training is like electing any politician. You take your chances and are usually disappointed with the results.

Ponzi: Treasury Issues $1T in New Debt in 8 Weeks—To Pay Old Debt

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew

The Daily Treasury Statement that was released Wednesday afternoon as Americans were preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving revealed that the U.S. Treasury has been forced to issue $1,040,965,000,000 in new debt since fiscal 2015 started just eight weeks ago in order to raise the money to pay off Treasury securities that were maturing and to cover new deficit spending by the government.

During those eight weeks, Treasury took in $341,591,000,000 in revenues. That was a record for the period between Oct. 1 and Nov. 25. But that record $341,591,000,000 in revenues was not enough to finance ongoing government spending let alone pay off old debt that matured.

‘Out of the Stores!’ Ferguson protesters target Black Friday mall sales in NYC

People angered at the killing of Michael Brown have stormed several shops on Black Friday in a new tactic to make their voices heard. Several dozen people took to a Walmart store in Missouri calling for justice over the teenagers shooting. Crowds have also blocked major intersections in New York and stormed into a mall disrupting the sales.

OPEC just fired a shot at the U.S. shale industry

shale oil producer

Despite tumbling prices — the lowest since 2010 — the cartel surprised the energy industry by deciding to keep pumping oil at current levels. One motivation is to squeeze higher-cost producers in North America, including the booming U.S. shale industry that has reshaped the global energy landscape.

It’s a move Tony Soprano would be proud of. OPEC is betting lower oil prices will force U.S. producers to throw up the white flag and cut back on production because they won’t be able to turn a profit.

“The gauntlet has been thrown down for Western Hemisphere producers like Brazil, Canada and the United States,” Bespoke Investment Group wrote in a note to clients on Friday.

Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving

This video comes from Eric Metaxis’ book “Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving“. You may be familiar with his other book “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy“.

I encourage you to not only watch this important piece of history but to send it out to other people. The Lord works in mysterious ways and this is a great example.

As we give thanks today for our bounty, it is up to us to sort through the chaff and discern the truth.
