North Carolina Magistrate Resigns Over Gay Marriage Mandate: It ‘Would Desecrate a Holy Institution Established By God’

A Christian magistrate in North Carolina has resigned his post, citing his faith-based opposition to gay marriage.

Kallam, who will leave his position effective October 31, also said that it wasn’t his understanding when he took the oath of office that he would be forced to marry gays and lesbians, as the Associated Press reported.

“When I took my oath of office, I understood I would be required to perform weddings and have done so throughout my tenure,” he wrote. “I did not, however, take that oath with any understanding that I would be required to marry same sex couples.”

He added, “I can no longer fulfill my oath of office in good faith.”

North and South Korea exchange gunfire at border in latest clash

North and South Korea exchanged gunfire on Sunday when the North’s soldiers approached the military border and did not retreat after the South fired warning shots, the South Korean Defence Ministry said.

The North’s soldiers fired back in an exchange of gunfire that lasted about 10 minutes but the situation did not escalate, a ministry official said.

“There were no casualties or property damage,” the official said.

The incident was the latest in a series of confrontations in recent weeks between the rival Koreas, that remain technically at war, and follows an urgent meeting between senior military officials on Wednesday to discuss how to ease tensions.

What Are the Desires of Your Heart?

Inspirational illustration of Psalm 37:4

Lord,

Let me do the work that you would have me do.

Let me walk the path that you have made for me.

Keep evil away from and put your hand on my shoulder.

Let me do this in Your name and for Your Glory.

Amen

U.S. Army warns of potential ‘airborne’ Ebola

ebola

While Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization officials continue to insist Ebola cannot be transmitted by air from one person to another, an Army manual clearly warns the virus could be an airborne threat in certain circumstances.

The handbook published by the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, USAMRID, titled “USAMRID’s Medical Management of Biological Casualties Handbook,” is now in its seventh edition.

The most recent edition was published in 2011, with more than 100,000 copies distributed to military and civilian health-care providers around the world.

On page 117 of the handbook, in a chapter discussing “Viral Hemorrhagic Fever” (VHF), a category of viruses that includes Ebola, USAMRID says: “In several instances, secondary infections among contacts and medical personnel without direct body fluid exposure have been documented. These instances have prompted concern of a rare phenomenon of aerosol transmission of infection.”

Page 117 continues to specify: “Therefore, when VHF is suspected, additional infection control measures are indicated.”

A Message from Your pResident

Friend —

If you thought our last election together ended on November 6th, 2012, I’ve got news for you:

Our last election together is happening right now — and what you do in North Carolina will decide if we can finish the work we’ve started.

Will you pledge right now to help get out the vote in North Carolina for this fall’s midterm elections? Races in North Carolina might be decided by a few thousand votes, so every hour you can spare could help make the difference:

http://my.democrats.org/Get-Out-the-Vote-NC

Think about every issue that’s important to you, and important to our country: College affordability, strengthening the middle class, better infrastructure.

I bet you’ve got a lot of ideas on how we can do better on all those things. I do too. And the next few weeks will decide if we can do any of it in the last two years of my administration.

So don’t sit back and wait to get involved. Field organizers in your state are waiting for you to raise your hand and say you’ll help Democrats win in tight races.

But, I can’t do this alone. Pledge to volunteer right now:

http://my.democrats.org/Get-Out-the-Vote-NC

If you’re willing to work with me, and knock on some doors with me, and make some phone calls with me, we’ll win in North Carolina. We’ll win this last election.

Thank you,

Barack Obama

Obama Plans to Let Ebola infected Foreigners Into U.S. for Treatment

Judicial Watch has learned that the Obama administration is actively formulating plans to admit Ebola-infected non-U.S. citizens into the United States for treatment.  Specifically, the goal of the administration is to bring Ebola patients into the United States for treatment within the first days of diagnosis.

It is unclear who would bear the high costs of transporting and treating non-citizen Ebola patients.  The plans include special waivers of laws and regulations that ban the admission of non-citizens with a communicable disease as dangerous as Ebola.

One source tells us that the Obama administration is keeping this plan secret from Congress. The source is concerned that the proposal is illegal; endangers the public health and welfare; and should require the approval of Congress.

Mel Watt, Federal Housing Finance Agency Head, is Pushing Banks to Make Extremely Risky Home Loans

Screen Shot 2014-10-17 at 1.43.16 PM

Mel Watt is one of the most dangerous financial oligarch puppets operating in America today. The first time he came across my radar screen was back in 2009, when he “gutted” Ron Paul’s End the Fed bill while it was in subcommittee, something I outlined in the post: Leverage in PE Deals Soars Despite Fed Warnings; Amidst Insatiable Demand for Risky Fannie Mae Debt.

Then in May of this year, I zeroed in on his latest authoritarian maneuver after being appointed to head the FHFA in the post: New Massive Federal Database to Hold Financial Information on Hundreds of Millions of Americans. Here’s an excerpt:

As many as 227 million Americans may be compelled to disclose intimate details of their families and financial lives — including their Social Security numbers — in a new national database being assembled by two federal agencies.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau posted an April 16 Federal Register notice of an expansion of their joint National Mortgage Database Program to include personally identifiable information that reveals actual users, a reversal of previously stated policy.

In a May 15 letter to FHFA Director Mel Watt and CFPB Director Richard Cordray, Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, and Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, charged, “this expansion represents an unwarranted intrusion into the private lives of ordinary Americans.”

So what’s Mel up to these days? Well, Bloomberg reports that:
