The True Consequences of Ebola in Flu Season

This is the precursor to the true impact on healthcare by Ebola. As presented by a physician at the Fall PATCON, our healthcare services will be overwhelmed and collapse by the end of the year. The initial symptoms of Ebola are the same as influenza. When thousands of people go for medical services, the physicians have no choice but to assume Ebola. What happens when a facility is quarantined until lab results are finalized?

In our county’s only hospital, one Ebola patient would trigger the quarantine of the entire facility. That means we have no hospital services and the medical personnel are not available to provide services in an alternative location since they are part of the quarantine. But this hospital has instituted a new policy this week according to a first hand account given to me yesterday: they ask anyone entering if they have visited Africa or have been in contact with anyone who has Ebola. When asked what would happen if they answer “yes”, the nurse said she did not have any direction for that contingency. When asked what she personally would do, she said she would probably run out the back door.

What would you do?

Tampa-bound flight held in Charlotte as Ebola fears sweep country

A Tampa-bound flight was held for about three hours Friday night in Charlotte, N.C., after a passenger began throwing up in the lavatory during boarding.

The passenger had a fever of about 100 degrees and complained of nausea and chills. While those could be symptoms of Ebola, North Carolina Health Department officials determined she didn’t have the deadly disease.

Even so, the woman was transported to a hospital “in an abundance of caution,” according to Mecklenburg, N.C., County officials, and the 187 passengers were not allowed to leave the US Airways plane while it sat at the airport.

“Out of an abundance of caution, paramedics didn’t want the passengers to deplane,” airline spokesman Kent Powell told the Charlotte Observer.

Ebola Today: Suspected Case in Texas Goes Missing

Baylor Health Care System announced Friday afternoon that a patient was isolated after reporting Ebola symptoms and that they had contact with a person with the virus. The Dallas County Health Department then instructed that the patient be transferred to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, according to a statement from Baylor.

But here’s the rub. Spokespeople for Texas Health Presbyterian told local news stations that they had not received a transfer patient and could not say whether the patient had been treated or released. There is no confirmation that this patient has Ebola. Texas Health Presbyterian has not responded to Boston.com request for comment.

Islamic State flying three jets in Syria

Iraqi pilots who have joined Islamic State in Syria are training members of the group to fly in three captured fighter jets, a group monitoring the war said on Friday, saying it was the first time the militant group had taken to the air.

The group, which has seized swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, has been flying the planes over the captured al-Jarrah military airport east of Aleppo, said Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Reuters was not immediately able to verify the report and U.S. Central Command said it was not aware of Islamic State flying jets in Syria.

U.S-led forces are bombing Islamic State bases in Syria and Iraq. The group has regularly used weaponry captured from the Syrian and Iraqi armies and has overrun several military bases but, if the report is confirmed, this would be the first time it has been able to pilot warplanes.

“They have trainers, Iraqi officers who were pilots before for (former Iraqi president) Saddam Hussein,” Abdulrahman said.

Over 10,000 Illegal Aliens on Voter Rolls in North Carolina

NCFIRE.info has confirmed that of the 14,836 DACA eligible illegal aliens who have been issued a NC drivers license (as of 9/20/2014),10,000+ of them are also registered to vote! That’s right, illegal aliens registered to vote in NC. We have had direct talks withindividuals who have confirmed this information.The NC State Board Of Elections is working hard to check the names and remove them from the voter rolls BUT, they are woefully understaffed and will NOT be able to finish before the election in Nov. (much less before early voting starts on Oct 23rd)I urge everyone to contact their NC State Representative and NC State Senator and demand the staffing be increased to complete the job at hand.

Find your NC House Representative and your NC State Senator here: http://www.ncleg.net/representation/WhoRepresentsMe.aspx

Simply enter your address in the search box, at the top right of the each map and hit enter (or click on the pop-up address that corresponds to yours). This will bring up your address inside a purple box on the map. Click anywhere inside the purple box to find your Rep or Senator contact info.

FEAR OF EBOLA

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mr. Whittle has this wrong. I want to add that there are other factors in play besides the transmission value. This is a virus: antibiotics are ineffective and there is no vaccine available according to our government. We have seen this week how one person on a plane has impacted over 2000 people. While the transmission level is low in that incident, it should not have happened. Someone should tell the pResident thinks there are no mulligans for Ebola.
From the CDC:
A low risk exposure includes any of the following
  • Household contact with an EVD patient
  • Other close contact with EVD patients in health care facilities or community settings. Close contact is defined as
    1. being within approximately 3 feet (1 meter) of an EVD patient or within the patient’s room or care area for a prolonged period of time (e.g., health care personnel, household members) while not wearing recommended personal protective equipment (i.e., standard, droplet, and contact precautions; see Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations)
    2. having direct brief contact (e.g., shaking hands) with an EVD patient while not wearing recommended personal protective equipment.
Based on the plethora of other wasteful research projects NIH spent grant money on, an Ebola vaccine certainly did not appear to be a high priority. Forbes published a sampling of 18 wasteful programs paid for by NIH as of October, 2012. This research ranged from a study on “Massage in Rabbits” (costing taxpayers $386,000) to numerous studies exploring the effects of meditation (costing hundreds of thousands of dollars each).
Red Yellow Green Blue
rygb
We’ve talked a bit about Red, Yellow, and Green villages in Afghanistan.  They were essentially classifications we assigned to villages as part of a Village Stability Operation (VSO) in order to prioritize our efforts in turning “yellow” villages “green”.  Very briefly, red villages were decidedly anti-US/Coalition Forces OR pro-Taliban; yellow villages were mixed or indifferent; and green villages were pro-US/CF OR anti-Taliban.  We had to identify these villages, classify them, and then target for influence appropriately.  We didn’t waste time on red villages that we were unable to turn.  Instead, we focused on keeping the green villages for us, and convincing/influencing the yellow villages to support us.
Going back to the fact that we can’t kill them all, and that killing one insurgent often creates one or more in his place, we have to align our strategy appropriately.  This is the battle for hearts and minds that is won and lost in the villages, on the ground, with the people; not sitting behind a computer saying that it can’t be done.
As I was looking at a topo map of my hunting unit, I started to classify terrain as red, yellow, or green based on the likelihood of deer there at certain times of the day.  It occurred to me that this analysis has a very profound usefulness to the Patriot/Prepper as well.
Ebola ruled out as passenger dies on Nigeria flight to JFK
Ebola ruled out as passenger dies on Nigeria flight to JFK
A passenger died on a Nigeria-to-JFK flight after a vomiting fit on Thursday — and a top lawmaker said officials gave the corpse only a “cursory” exam before declaring that the victim did not have Ebola.
Rep. Peter King said in a letter to Homeland Security and Customs and Border Patrol that the handling of the remains exposed serious flaws in airport preparedness for an Ebola outbreak.
Between 70 and 100 passengers a day arrive at JFK from the Ebola epicenter countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, King noted, and they have access to public restrooms and mingle with other travelers before their first screening.
“Given the high volume of travelers at JFK, it is essential that extraordinary measures are taken to intercept possible Ebola-infected passengers,” while keeping the public and first responders safe, King (R-LI) wrote to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Customs Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske.
