Further Thoughts On Prayer: A Weekday Rumination

libertystorch
I was going to write about Islamic threats to life and freedom this morning, but as I was outlining the essay my thoughts veered onto another track…in this case explicably, for the divergence occurred as I was praying. Please consider the following a sequel to this piece from just a few weeks ago.

One of the salient differences that distinguishes Christianity from other faiths is its attitude toward prayer. Most other faiths mandate prayer, whether in a certain form, at certain times, or a certain number of instances per day or week. The Christian take on prayer is that:

  • It’s good for you;
  • God listens.

That’s all. The longstanding contentions over the idea that God “answers” prayers is likely not to be settled on this side of the grave, but as a character of mine would tell you, it’s meaningless in any case:

For the People and the Nation

christian mercenary

Let me put this another way: no one takes the three percenters seriously, because when it comes down to showing the power behind the numbers everyone employs the “it’s better to prep and be prepared than to stand up and declare oneself openly” angle.

Okay, I get that, I understand that your tribe is more important than the demonstration; that remaining hidden is better than standing up with a target on your chest.

Let me be very blunt:every great battle plan in the history of the world was good for about 2 seconds after contact with the enemy. Just because you think you know how it is all going to go down, you don’t. Embrace it, do everything you can to prevent it, because when it does, you are not going to be prepared.

ISIS to Behead Captured Former Army Ranger Peter Kassig

isis kassig tweet
Peter Kassig is a former U.S. Army Ranger who deployed to Iraq in 2007. I met this 24-year-old Indiana native while taking an entry-level Arabic course in Beirut last year. Since then, Peter has gone on to help Syrian refugees in a Lebanese hospital and recently started his own aid group called Special Emergency Response and Assistance — SERA.

Ann Barnhardt: Important Ebola Note

So there is tremendous chatter about this guy from Liberia, and we now have enough of the backstory to see just how maliciously negligent the so-called protection agencies really are.  But what I want to focus on is Thomas Eric Duncan – the Liberian who after hauling his sister’s still living yet rapidly disintegrating body to and from the hospital thought it would be a great idea to take a three-legged flight to Dallas, and then just casually forget to mention at the Dallas emergency room the whole “I hauled my sister, dying of Ebola, to and from the hospital a couple of weeks ago.”

There is speculation that Duncan is a psychopathic arch criminal, or that he was recruited by musloids to make the trip.  Nope.  I doubt this very, very seriously.  Then how in the world, you may ask, could he possibly DO THIS?  I’ll tell you the likely answer if you really want to know, but I warn you, our culture has conditioned even the “strongest” of you to reject the truth I am about to lay out.  Are you sure you want it?  Fair warning has been given.  Complaints will not be fielded.

The AVERAGE I.Q. amongst Liberians is 67.  Anything below 69 is considered severe impairment. Only people who are profoundly mentally retarded, such as with severe Down Syndrome, have lower I.Q. scores, and many folks with milder Down Syndrome actually have I.Q. scores in the 70s and 80s.  What we are talking about in Liberia is the AVERAGE IQ of non-impaired human beings.  AVERAGE.  Which means, by definition, that half the populace is above 67, and half the population is below 67.

The Offal Office: Global Headquarters for Plantations, Inc

by Bill Buppert

I’ve had to deprogram myself with thousands of hours of autodidactic inquiry to dispel and destroy the hundreds of myths drilled into my head during years of government schooling. This indoctrination has only one primary purpose: to destroy critical thinking facility and replace it with an imbecilic faith in the state to right every wrong and provide cradle to grave excuses for not being a self-led individual. Collectivism builds vast gulag-care systems that institutionalize sloth, group-think and a callous disregard for those who disagree with you.  From the sports-obsessed militarists to the nationalistic evangelical Israeli-firsters to the forever-lost collectivist true believers, American tax cattle love their bread and circuses. The American myth is based on a number of assumptions that beggar belief and challenge basic humanity. They clothe the barbarism in parchment idolatry and the lionizing of men, particularly the Presidents.

I have always thought the annual celebration of the best to worst presidents was foolish at best and academically challenged at worst. The court historians had a tendency to fellate the state and top-list the warmongers and those who expanded government and the list continued to diminish from there. From a libertarian perspective, most are monsters incarnate and from my abolitionist perspective, all are monsters but I had an enduring faith a few had good intentions among whom was Grover Cleveland who has been a favorite top drawer listing among the libertarian commentariat.

Free Intelligence Webinar – Tuesday, 07 October

Guerrillamerica

by Sam Culper III

I’ll be doing a free hour-long webinar on Intelligence on Tuesday, 7 October through Summer of Survival.  In this webinar, I’ll be stating the case that all preppers and patriots have the tools available to begin collecting and analyzing intelligence, and we’ll discuss some strategies on how to implement intelligence into your preparations.  This webinar is geared towards preppers, but will contain valuable information for anyone interested in learning more about Intelligence.

DO NOT be that guy who had an opportunity to learn about intelligence and threat analysis but chose not to.  DO NOT be that guy who fails to provide a critical piece of your security picture because you didn’t know.  Your wife and kids are not going to want to hear your excuses because you have poor security and no intelligence game.

It’s easy to sign up, and completely free.  I’m not selling anything, and I’m not asking you to buy anything.  It’s simply a way that I can share my love for Intelligence with our community.  It will last around an hour, and there’ll even be a Q&A session where you can ask me questions and get immediate answers.

Learn more about the webinar here: http://summerofsurvival.com/sos/sam-culper-intelligence-means-security/

Venezuela on alert over mysterious, deadly disease

The deaths of 10 people in the past week of a mysterious disease in several cities in Venezuela, including the capital of Caracas, have caused panic within the population and has prompted doctors to sound the alarm.

A government spokesman minimized the warnings and described efforts to notify the public of a disease that has killed four adults and four children as a “campaign of disinformation and terrorism.”

Despite the government’s indifference, the country’s doctors insist there is plenty of reason for concern about a highly dangerous and contagious disease of unknown origin.

“We do not know what it is,” admitted Duglas León Natera, president of the Venezuelan Medical Federation.

In its initial stages, the disease presents symptoms of fever and spots on the skin, and then produces large blisters and internal and external bleeding, according to data provided week stop by the College of Physicians of the state of Aragua, where the first cases were reported.

Then, very quickly, patients suffer from respiratory failure, liver failure and kidney failure. Venezuelan doctors have not been able to determine what the disease is, much less how to fight it.

North and South Carolina Hospitals Prepare for Ebola Threat

Now that the first diagnosis of Ebola in America has happened in Dallas, Texas, hospitals in North Carolina and South Carolina are preparing for patients to come in with Ebola symptoms.

At Carolinas Medical Center (CMC), they have 19 beds set aside in case they have to treat Ebola patients. They also have a designated area for infected patients in a separate area of the hospital.

CMC staff has received training on what type of symptoms to look for and how to dispose of protective equipment in case someone shows signs of the deadly virus.

They also have an emergency route in place and a team of infection specialists on standby.

Carolina Hospital Connected To Texas Ebola Victim’s Sister Readies 19 Ebola Beds

Whats not being reported is that Texas Ebola victim Thomas Duncan’s sister worked for Carolina Healthcare Systems in Charlotte as a health care worker. This information according to her LinkedIn page and also by photos from her Facebook page.

What her current connection is to Carolina is not completely understood, in fact it appears she may be currently working for the Texas Hospital where her brother is located. But, the actions of the Carolina Medical Center may indicate that person there did have had some sort of contact with the Texas Ebola patient.

‘Flaw’ in Electronic Health Record Blamed for Medical Error Involving Ebola Patient

ehr

When a sick Liberian man walked into Texas Presbyterian Hospital last month, “Protocols were followed by both the physician and the nurses,” the hospital said in a statement released Thursday night.

The man told a nurse he had come from West Africa, where an Ebola epidemic is raging.

“However, we have identified a flaw in the way the physician and nursing portions of our electronic health records (EHR) interacted in this specific case.”

The hospital said its electronic health records include “separate physician and nursing workflows.”

The hospital said the Liberian man’s travel history was located in the nurses’ portion of the EHR, but — “As designed, the travel history would not automatically appear in the physician’s standard workflow.”

The consequences of the Obama era for our retirement: “Welcome to Walmart” and “Do You Want to Upsize Your Fries?”. Our primary workforce decreased 10,000 last month. Where did they go? Got Entitlements?

I attended a local commissioner’s debate last night. The Democrat was so grateful for Obamacare. He had no insurance (or job) until the government provided him with subsidized healthcare. But Blue Cross targeted me since March by cancelling my insurance three times. I got the hint: the government has moved from targeting people with the IRS to targeting people’s medical insurance. Another scandal in the making.

I guess my penalty for not having medical insurance now will pay for people who are “entitled” to it.

You Can’t Handle The Truth

From time to time here, and on a couple of forums where the whole Ebola topic has predictably mushroomed in the last few days, a number of Internet aficionados have pulled out their expert creds, and/or subtly (and not-so-) hinted that things aren’t that bad, “because the government sez different.”

A number of repetitive strains of this malfunction keep showing up, so let’s have a look, shall we?

#1) “Ebola is hard to catch.”

Well played. So, I can either believe that, or my lying eyes.
Strike one.

#2) “Ebola is fragile, and can’t last long outside the host.”
“We know how it’s transmitted.”
“We have the resources to contain it.”
Etc.

Truth for US Employment

Labor Participation Rate Drops To 36 Year Low; Record 92.6 Million Americans Not In Labor Force

While by now everyone should know the answer, for those curious why the US unemployment rate just slid once more to a meager 5.9%, the lowest print since the summer of 2008, the answer is the same one we have shown every month since 2010: the collapse in the labor force participation rate, which in September slid from an already three decade low 62.8% to 62.7% – the lowest in over 36 years, matching the February 1978 lows. And while according to the Household Survey, 232,000 people found jobs, what is more disturbing is that the people not in the labor force, rose to a new record high, increasing by 315,000 to 92.6 million!

4 Of 5 Top Job Additions In September Were Low Or Minimum Wage

Interested why despite the euphoric headline NFP print, a cursory glance deeper inside the payrolls report reveals weakness after weakness, with both participation plunging again and wages the worst since last summer? Here is the answer: 4 of the top 5 largest job additions in September, retail trade, leisure and hospitality, education and health and temp help, were of the lowest quality, and paying, jobs possible. So yes, America added a whole lot of minimum wage waiters, store clerks, groundskeepers and temps: truly the stuff New Normal “recoveries” are made of.

The Wageless Recovery: Average Hourly Earnings Suffer First Monthly Decline Since July 2013

What happened in September when the BLS just reported that average hourly earnings for all private industries were $24.53, is that this was only one of 6 months since the failure of Lehman, when there a sequential decline in average hourly earnings, down from $24.54 in August.

Or for those still drinking Kool-aid:

Unemployment falls below 6% for first time since 2008

The unemployment rate fell last month because more people were getting jobs, not because they were dropping out of the labor force as they have at times during the economic recovery. The number of people in the workforce was essentially unchanged.
