Panera Bread CEO asks patrons to leave guns home

The sandwich-and-soup chain out of St. Louis, said it doesn’t want armed customers in its more than 1,800 stores in an effort to increase the comfort of its unarmed patrons, joining a growing list of other companies who have issued similar directives.

The news is another victory for gun safety group Moms Demand Action in its campaign to get guns out of America’s restaurants and retailers.

“We ask that guns not be brought into this environment unless carried by an authorized law enforcement officer,” the company said in a statement. “Panera (PNRA) respects the rights of gun owners, but asks our customers to help preserve the environment we are working to create for our guests and associates.”

Obama: Ebola a ‘National Security Priority’

An Ebola resurgence in a West African region previously believed to have contained the virus has health officials worried the outbreak could be spinning out of control. President Barack Obama on Sunday called the fight against Ebola a “national security priority.”

Doctors Without Borders staff moved on from Guinea’s Macenta region in May, believing that the virus was under control in the area, according to The Associated Press. The international aid group had returned to Macenta by the beginning of September, after new cases cropped up for the first time in months.

Obama said Sunday U.S. troops would soon be involved in setting up quarantine zones and providing security for health workers in Ebola-ravaged regions, citing Ebola as a “national security priority,” according to Fox News.

“Americans shouldn’t be concerned about the prospects of contagion here in the United States short term, because it’s not an airborne disease,” Obama said on NBC’s Meet The Press . “If we don’t make that effort now, there’s the prospect that the virus mutates … And then it could be a serious danger to the United States.”

A CNN Reporter, BBC Reporter, and an Israeli commando were captured by terrorists in Iraq. The leader of the terrorists told them that he would grant them each one last request before they were beheaded.

The CNN Reporter said, ‘Well, I’m an American, so I’d like one last hamburger with French fries.” The leader nodded to an underling who left and returned with the burger & fries. The reporter ate it and said “Now, I can die.”

The BBC Reporter said, ‘I’m a reporter to the end. I want to take out my tape recorder and describe the scene here and what’s about to happen. Maybe someday someone will hear it and know that I was on the job till the end.” The terror leader directed an aide to hand over the tape recorder and dictated some comments. The reporter then said, ‘Now I can die knowing I stayed true until the end.”

The leader turned and said, “And now, Mr. Israeli tough guy, what is your final wish?”

“Kick me in the ass,” said the soldier.

“What?’ asked the leader, “Will you mock us in your last hour?”

“No, I’m not kidding. I want you to kick me in the ass,” insisted the Israeli. So the leader shoved him into the open and kicked him in the ass.

The soldier went sprawling, but rolled to his knees, pulled a 9 mm pistol from under his flak jacket, and shot the leader dead. In the resulting confusion, he jumped to his knapsack, pulled out his carbine and sprayed the terrorists with gunfire. In a flash, all terrorists were either dead or fleeing for their lives.

As the soldier was untying the reporters, they asked him, “Why didn’t you just shoot them in the beginning? Why did you ask them to kick you in the ass first?”

“What?” replied the Israeli, “and have you report that I was the aggressor?”

Two Russian strategic bombers conducted practice cruise missile attacks on the United States during a training mission last week that defense officials say appeared timed to the NATO summit in Wales.

The Russian Tu-95 Bear bombers were tracked flying a route across the northern Atlantic near Iceland, Greenland, and Canada’s northeast.

Analysis of the flight indicated the aircraft were conducting practice runs to a pre-determined “launch box”—an optimum point for firing nuclear-armed cruise missiles at U.S. targets, said defense officials familiar with intelligence reports.

Disclosure of the nuclear bombing practice comes as a Russian general last week called for Moscow to change its doctrine to include preemptive nuclear strikes on the United States and NATO.

A rare respiratory illness that’s sickened more than a thousand kids in 10 states is likely to spread all across the United States, ABC News reported, citing doctors.

The disease hasn’t been officially identified in every state, but in some states a rare respiratory virus called human enterovirus 68 has been found. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus is related to the rhinovirus, which causes the common cold.

…At least 10 states — Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa, Colorado, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Georgia — have reported suspected outbreaks of human enterovirus 68 and requested CDC support.

“Viruses don’t tend to respect borders,” ABC News Chief Health and Medical Editor Dr. Richard Besser said. “It is only 10 states now, but it’s going to be across the country. So if your state doesn’t have it now, watch for it. It’s coming.”

De-Dollarization Continues: China-Argentina Agree Currency Swap, Will Trade In Yuan

It appears there is another nation on planet Earth that is becoming isolated. One by one, Russia and China appear to be finding allies willing to ‘de-dollarize’; and the latest to join this trend is serial-defaulter Argentina. As Reuters reports, China and Argentina’s central banks have agreed a multi-billion dollar currency swap operation “to bolster Argentina’s foreign reserves” or “pay for Chinese imports with Yuan,” as Argentina’s USD reserves dwindle. In addition, Argentina claims China supports the nation’s plans in the defaulted bondholder dispute.

Having met ‘on the sidelines’ in Basel, Switzerland in July, Argentine and Chinese central banks agreed to a currency swap equivalent to $11b that Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich said could be used to stabilize reserves..

Four Greatest Kinetic Threats to Preppers

This article outlines what I see as the four greatest kinetic threats to preppers.  By kinetic, I mean physical threats of force.  This list doesn’t include dehydration, starvation, illness or natural disasters.

1. Your neighbors.  Not only are your neighbors your greatest counterintelligence threat – that is, the threat that will turn you in for owning stockpiles of weapons or food – but they’re also your greatest physical threat.  We’re already seeing a concerted effort by government to identify ‘preppers’ and gun owners.  I imagine a day will come where it could be illegal to stockpile anything.  Your neighbors likely know, if they don’t know you personally, what you have or may have, and if turning you in meant their survival, then they’re the critical threat living beside you.  Secondly, if we experience a SHTF event that brought the grid down, or stopped the transportation of fuel or food, then not only are your neighbors in the greatest proximity but they also may be in the greatest need.  For all the talk of the Golden Hordes (not to diminish that threat), your neighbors are potentially the most dangerous because they know the terrain and could most easily band together to create a more imminent and dangerous threat.

A massacre survivor tells his tale

Ali was one of 660 or so Shia recruits to the Iraqi military, who were massacred before even beginning training. The remainder of them are almost certainly in the mass graves carefully plotted by Human Rights Watch, which has taken a break from its usual bashing of the US and the West to take an uncharacteristic look at the human rights record of a radical Mohammedan group.

Ali’s story was so chilling that it seems to have shaken even the Times reporters’ reflexive support for whoever’s most anti-American in international relations.

As far as Ali goes, relying on luck is never a good idea. It worked for him, but it didn’t work for any of the 659 others in his cohort.

Some other mistakes the recruits made were:

  1. Placing their fates in the hands of their enemies. There has been absolutely nothing to indicate that ISIL has any quality of mercy, so this was simple wishful thinking on their part. Wishful thinking never works.
  2. Staying together in large groups. While this is a natural human tendency — we naturally feel more secure among the herd — it just guaranteed their capture.
  3. Attempting to flee along high-speed avenues of approach. These are naturally the first to be secured by advancing enemies.
  4. Attempting to flee in daylight. Everything we have seen about ISIL indicates that it’s a day, fair-weather operation. Traveling by day also exposes one to the brutal conditions of the Iraqi desert. Travel by night, get small during the day. Be the nothing good that happens at 0300 — to your enemies, that is.
