ONE MILLION STRONG GAZA MARCH PLANNED FOR SATURDAY IN LONDON

Up to one million activists will march in support of Gaza through London this Saturday. The march is the latest in a series of high profile demonstrations to show solidarity between the British left and the Hamas ruled territory.

The protest is being organised by the Stop the War Coalition, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and a number of Muslim groups. Last weekend they claimed to have marched 100,000 people from Trafalgar Square, past the Houses of Parliament and on to the Israeli Embassy.

This week they plan to go the other way and start at the Embassy before heading to Westminster.

It is unclear whether the groups involved can muster one million people, but the campaign against operation protective edge is getting increasingly bitter. On Sunday, a pro-Israeli activist was attacked during a peaceful protest by Zionist groups, and others had abuse hurled at them in Arabic.

DHS Anticipated 60,000 Illegal Child Border Crossers in January

DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson confirmed Thursday that the Obama administration in January anticipated a surge of some 60,000 illegal children crossing the Southwest Border.

So far, only two cases among the flood of illegal immigrants this year raised concerns that terrorists were entering the United States, Johnson said during remarks to a security conference.

Johnson recalled visiting a detention center in Brownsville, Texas, in January where 82 percent of a group of 995 detainees were from 30 different countries, most from Central America. The rest were Mexicans.

“It was apparent to me then that the Rio Grand valley sector of the Southwest border needed to be an area of particular concern,” Johnson said during remarks at the Aspen Security Forum.

Duke University has hired as the new director of its $3 million Islamic Studies Center a controversial Iranian-American professor whose scholarship has come under fire for anti-Israel bias and who once used a picture of dead Jews in Nazi death camps to illustrate his writing on the Palestinians.

Omid Safi, a former professor at the University of North Carolina, was installed this week by Duke as the new director of the school’s Islamic Studies Center (DISC), which was handed $3 million specifically for the directorship position.

US Manufacturing PMI Drops, Biggest Miss On Record

But, but, but… the rest of the world’s PMIs are soaring as soft-survey data trumps any hard data facts. US Manufacturing dropped from 57.3 to 56.3 despite analysts that were convinced it should rise further to 57.5. This is the biggest miss on record, and the 2nd miss in a row. In spite of soaring markets proving the recoverty is just picking up and accelerating, new export orders weakened, manufacturing production fell, input costs surged, and employment tumbled to 10-month lows. But, stocks are surging on this dismal news…

New Home Sales Collapse 20% From May To Dec 2012 Levels; Biggest Miss In A Year

New Home Sales in June plunged to 406k vs 504k in May  (remember that 504k print was the catalyst for ‘weather’ is over and the market to surge: it somehow was magically revised lower by more than 10% to only 442K) Now that has soaked in, consider this is equal lowest sales print since September 2013 (and Dec 2012) and the biggest miss since July 2013.

The last 3 months of exuberance have all been revised significantly lower as follows:

  • March: 410K to 408K
  • April: 425K to 408K
  • May: 504K to 442K

What is even more troubling in the “survey” vs “reality” world is this collapse in sales when NAHB Sentiment surged to near cycle highs. For context, this is a 5-standard-deviation miss from economists’ expectations, below the lowest guess and a massive miss from almost highest estimate Joe Lavorgna’s 510k.
