Disgusting

Friend —

I like to think of my concerts as a place for friends to come together and have a good time.

Under the stars? Even better.

That’s why I’m pretty excited about the chance to invite an OFA grassroots supporter like you to be a backstage guest at an outdoor show of mine in Chicago next month.

Any grassroots donation before midnight will automatically enter you for the chance to be there — and the flight and hotel are on OFA.

You’ve worked hard this year — the organizing you did to help 8 million Americans get enrolled with health insurance is no small feat. And I’ve seen you take on the members of Congress who still live in denial about climate change.

I’m impressed by what you do, and how you’ve proved time and again that there’s no substitute for good, old-fashioned grassroots organizing when it comes to fighting for change.

That’s why I want to offer this opportunity as a simple thank-you to OFA supporters like you for everything you do for our country.

If you win, you and a guest will be able to kick back on a free flight to Chicago, and be my VIP guests at the show.

Chip in to support OFA’s work before midnight, and you’ll be automatically entered to join us:

Thanks — hope to see you soon,

James Taylor

P.S. — I’m told that any entry made today counts twice, so make sure you get your name in the hat.

Founding Fathers in South Carolina Gender Bender

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMlUL2ln9PY

From YouTube:

The University of South Carolina Upstate dropped funding for its gender studies program amidst political pressure, opting instead to fund legally mandated classes on the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and the Federalist Papers. Is this decision evidence of sexism and homophobia by South Carolina? Is it a chilling act of retribution or a sound educational decision?

Guidance

christian mercenary

by T.L. Davis

A few days ago I wrote the above post full of self, of my own attitudes and baggage. I fluctuate from thinking that what I write helps, that it provides some information, that it leads some to the light of truth. Other times, I think if I am writing I am not doing and doing is what needs to be done. I think that by shutting down the blog and “doing” I can protect those who might be considered co-conspirators. I have struggled with this a lot.

I am not afraid of the justice system. To be honest, the last thing they want to do is put me in prison with a bunch of other victims of this diseased system. I know the mentality. I have spent a lot of time with ex-cons. While I am not rushing to be imprisoned, I do not fear it. The greatest fear I have is what it does to people I care about, people like my family, like the III.

Mission Analysis & the Four D’s

Military Intelligence [MI] [Branch+Regimental][1.5]

by Sam Culper

I recently started incorporating the four D’s into Mission Planning and Analysis.  The mission drives intelligence and intelligence drives the fight.  Therefore if we don’t understand the mission, we can’t drive the fight.

The mission of protecting your family and community through tactical engagement is not enough.  There’s a reason why there are aggressive Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence (HUMINT) operations during conflict: to discover the threats before they appear and to discover the attacks before they’re launched.  US/CF disrupted countless attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan, but it could not have happened had we been tucked away in our bases all day surfing on SIPR or JWICS.

So I’d encourage each of you reading this, especially if you’re concerned with threats in your community post-SHTF, to get out there and be active in your community.  Learn about those who live around you, get to know them and develop a rapport.  If I’m going to depend on these people during an emergency, I want to be on a first name basis with all of them yesterday.

At any rate, the four D’s is our strategic plan to bring security to our community.  They are as follows…

US Economy Shrank By 1% In The First Quarter: First Contraction Since 2011

Some highlights:

  • Personal consumption was largely unchanged at 2.09% from 2.04% in the first estimate and down from 2.22% in Q4. Considering the US consumer savings rate has tumbled to post crisis lows at the end of Q1, don’t expect much upside from this number.
  • Fixed investment also was largely unchanged, subtracting another 0.36% from growth, a little less than the -0.44% in the first estimate and well below the 0.43% contribution in Q4.
  • Net trade, or the combination of exports and imports, declined from
-0.83% to -0.95%, far below the positive boost of 0.99% in Q4.
  • The biggest hit was in the change in private inventories, which tumbled from -0.57% in the first revision to a whopping -1.62%: the biggest contraction in the series since the revised -2.0% print recorded in Q4 2012.
  • Finally, government subtracted another -0.15% from Q1 growth, more than the -0.09% initially expected

Ukraine Helicopter With 14 Troops On Board Is Shot Down

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZUtBwlzvag

Events in Ukraine may have been moved to the backburner because not only are they not impacting US equities but have somehow managed to push Russian stocks to pre-sanction highs, but that does not mean that there is any de-escalation in the self-proclaimed eastern regions of Donetsk and Slavyansk where fighting between pro-Russian groups and Kiev army rages on. The latest incident took place a little over an hour ago when Pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine shot down a military helicopter near Sloviansk, killing 14 people, the country’s outgoing president says.

This attack took place following a weekend of heavy fighting in Donetsk following a push against “terrorists” by the new president that left many rebel soldiers dead.

The helicopter was hit during heavy fighting between Sloviansk and Kramatorsk on Thursday after it had dropped off troops at a military base, reports said.

Although this civil war is not being reported by our media, it will impact our future. There is no need to speculate on what may happen, but I encourage everyone to be aware of the consequences of a war with Russia aligned with China.

Has The Next Recession Already Begun For America’s Middle Class?

Recession

by Michael Snyder

Has the next major economic downturn already started?  The way that you would answer that question would probably depend on where you live.  If you live in New York City, or the suburbs of Washington D.C., or you work for one of the big tech firms in the San Francisco area, you would probably respond to such a question by saying of course not.  In those areas, the economy is doing great and prices for high end homes are still booming.  But in most of the rest of the nation, evidence continues to mount that the next recession has already begun for the poor and the middle class.  As you will read about below, major retailers had an absolutely dreadful start to 2014 and home sales are declining just as they did back in 2007 before the last financial crisis.  Meanwhile, the U.S. economy continues to lose more good jobs and 20 percent of all U.S. families do not have a single member that is employed at this point.  2014 is turning out to be eerily similar to 2007 in so many ways, but most people are not paying attention.

During the first quarter of 2014, earnings by major U.S. retailers missed estimates by the biggest margin in 13 years.  The “retail apocalypse” continues to escalate, and the biggest reason for this is the fact that middle class consumers in the U.S. are tapped out.  And this is not just happening to a few retailers – this is something that is happening across the board.  The following is a summary of how major U.S. retailers performed in the first quarter of 2014 that was put together by Jim Quinn

What Do We Mean by Legal?

legal

We’re surrounded by concerns over what is legal and what isn’t. But what, really, do we mean by “legal”?

The first and most practical meaning of the word, of course, is “things you won’t be punished for doing.”

That definition, however, has never been sufficient for public use. That’s because it’s too stark. If the situation was as simple as a law enforcer saying to John Doe, “Do it the way I tell you or I’ll beat you with my fists,” Mr. Doe would eventually find ways to disobey safely or to cripple the enforcer.

Brute-force enforcement can work, but not over a long period of time, and always at a very considerable cost.

In order to secure long-term, effective obedience from humans, some rationale beyond a fear of violence must be used. People must believe that obeying the enforcer’s word is the right thing to do. That’s why codes of law invoke some type of unseen higher power: a divinity, the “will of the people,” “the way of our ancestors,” or the like. People need a reason to obey, beyond fear.

And by putting the reason to obey above and away from daily life, it cannot be questioned effectively: The higher power has spoken, and only an evil person would question it.

Firearm Confiscation by Law Enforcement in a Nutshell

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqAfFkI7mrI

In my business life, we laser etch firearms. This gives me extensive contact with law enforcement officers in North Carolina. I use this opportunity to discuss issues and opinions on the 2nd Amendment. The following conclusion will be controversial to some readers but I would rather have a Democrat sheriff in my county than a Republican sheriff. The above video is only one example that formed this opinion.

For more examples:

When a sitting Republican sheriff has to bring his attorney with him to represent 2nd Amendment viewpoints, we have a problem.

Putin Says Russia, China Need To Ensure Security Of Their Gold Reserves

One week ago we reported that while Russia was dumping a record amount of Treasurys it was buying gold, or some 900,000 ounces to be precise. Today we learn that as Russia continues to purchase gold, and is likely taking advantage of the recent rout in gold prices, it certainly won’t be storing its physical metal with any of the western Central Banks. According to Reuters, shortly after Russia and China announced their historic gas deal, Vladimit Putin said at the recent International Economic Forum, that Russia need to ensure its gold and currency reserves are secure. And not just Russia: China too. Because apparently when it comes to speaking for “hard” monetary policy, Putin is now authorized to speak for both nations.

From Reuters:
