Presidential Palace In Bosnia Set On Fire As Riots Break Out Protesting 40% Unemployment

Another day, another European nation is hit by violent riots as protests over the economy and corruption spilled over violently into the street, this time Bosnia where more than 150 people were wounded on Friday in the worst civil unrest in the country since the 1992-95 war. The reason: anger over the dire state of domestic politics, the economic collapse and especially the country’s 40% unemployment rate. The Telegraph reports that angry protesters set fire to part of the presidential palace in Sarajevo, as well as government buildings in the capital Sarajevo, Tuzla and Zenica. At least 80 people were injured in Sarajevo and 10 in Zenica, authorities said. There were no immediate casualty figures from Tuzla, where the worst of the fighting was.

Army would take Apache helicopters from NC National Guard

Apache Longbow helicopters are lithe, deadly birds. With the kind of training they do out of their headquarters near Raleigh-Durham International Airport, the citizen-soldiers in the N.C. National Guard’s 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion can swoop in just above the trees, dive on a target and fire one of three kinds of ammunition with almost no warning.

So skilled is the battalion, part of the 130th Aviation Regiment, that it has deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq since 9/11 without losing a single Apache.

It doesn’t want to lose them now.

But it could, under an aviation restructuring plan by the Army that would take all the National Guard’s Apaches, just under 200 aircraft from eight attack battalions across the country, including those of the 1-130th at Morrisville. The Army says it needs the helicopters so it can stop using the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior, which it has been updating since the Vietnam War. And in a time of severe budget constraints, taking Apaches from the Guard is the least costly option.

A strange week for the economy. Another financial expert has committed “suicide” using a nail gun. The unemployment numbers were a huge miss but the unemployment rate once again went down. The stock market was up 165.5 points on the expectation that the Fed will open the printing press floodgates to “fix” the economy. People’s spending exceeded their judgment as consumer borrowing hit $18.8 billion for December. The most ignored story for last week was the federal government’s breach of the debt ceiling. I suppose no one expects any fiscal restraint from our leaders at this point. Layoffs in technology, automotive industry (Volv0) and paper had the biggest numbers. But the biggest news last week for jobs was the large loss of jobs due to Obamacare.

Do not expect any improvements in the next few weeks as the government is already blaming the weather for all future reports.

Following the jumping deaths of 2 London bankers and a former-Fed economist in the US, The Denver Post reports Richard Talley, founder and CEO of American Title, was found dead in his home from self-inflicted wounds – from a nail-gun. Talley’s company was under investigation from insurance regulators.

1,154,000 fewer Americans are working today than six years ago, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In January 2008, 146,378,000 Americans 16 and over were employed, and now in January 2014, 145,224,000 are employed, a difference of 1,154,000.

91,455,000 Americans 16 or older did not participate in the nation’s labor force in January, meaning they neither held a job nor actively sought one. That’s a 353,000 decline from December, but 172,000 more than November.

The national labor force participation rate — the share of Americans who had a job or were actively looking for one — ticked up to 63 percent in January, from 62.8 percent in December.

1. Can someone actually nail their torso and head seven times by themself?

2. What is the status of the other three suicides?

3. Were these “banksters” taken out to prevent FOREX fraud whistle-blowing?

One thing is certain, the conspiracy theorists are having a field day.

Following the jumping deaths of 2 London bankers and a former-Fed economist in the US, The Denver Post reports Richard Talley, founder and CEO of American Title, was found dead in his home from self-inflicted wounds – from a nail-gun. Talley’s company was under investigation from insurance regulators.

Richard Talley, 57, and the company he founded in 2001 were under investigation by state insurance regulators at the time of his death late Tuesday, an agency spokesman confirmed Thursday.

It was unclear how long the investigation had been ongoing or its primary focus.

A coroner’s spokeswoman Thursday said Talley was found in his garage by a family member who called authorities. They said Talley died from seven or eight self-inflicted wounds from a nail gun fired into his torso and head.

Also unclear is whether Talley’s suicide was related to the investigation by the Colorado Division of Insurance, which regulates title companies.

Lew sets debt limit deadline

The Treasury Department will all but completely exhaust its abilities to pay the nation’s bills by Feb. 27 unless Congress raises the debt ceiling, according to a new letter sent to lawmakers Friday by Secretary Jack Lew.

Lew’s warning moves up the deadline for action by Congress, since the Treasury secretary had previously only offered “late February” as a deadline.

“Based on our best and most recent information…we are not confident that the extraordinary measures will last beyond Thursday, February 27,” he wrote. “At that point, Treasury would be left with only the cash on hand and any incoming revenue to meet our country’s commitments.”

Lew warned that it will be incredibly difficult to predict exactly how long Treasury’s cash would last before the government would miss a payment.
