During The Best Period Of Economic Growth In U.S. History There Was No Income Tax And No Federal Reserve

The American Free Market System At Work

The American Free Market System At Work

How would America ever survive without the central planners in the Obama administration and at the Federal Reserve?  What in the world would we do if there was no income tax and no IRS?  Could the U.S. economy possibly keep from collapsing under such circumstances?  The mainstream media would have us believe that unless we have someone “to pull the levers” our economy would descend into utter chaos, but the truth is that the best period of economic growth in U.S. history occurred during a time when there was no income tax and no Federal Reserve.  Between the Civil War and 1913, the U.S. economy experienced absolutely explosive growth.  The free market system thrived and the rest of the world looked at us with envy.  The federal government was very limited in size, there was no income tax for most of that time and there was no central bank.  To many Americans, it would be absolutely unthinkable to have such a society today, but it actually worked very, very well.  Without the inventions and innovations that came out of that period, the world would be a far different place today.

It is amazing what can happen when the government just gets out of the way.  Check out all of the wonderful things that Wikipedia says happened for the U.S. economy during those years…

The rapid economic development following the Civil War laid the groundwork for the modern U.S. industrial economy. By 1890, the USA leaped ahead of Britain for first place in manufacturing output.

In 1913, the Federal Reserve and a permanent national income tax were introduced. Today, the unelected central planners at the Federal Reserve totally run our financial system and the U.S. tax code is about 13 miles long. The value of our currency has declined by more than 96 percent since 1913, and the size of our national debt has gotten more than 5000 times larger.

Fourth Hindenburg In Five Days Closes Dow Near Worst Week Of The Year

For the 4th day this week new highs, new lows, advancers and decliners flashed an angst-prone market and triggered a Hindenburg Omen. A glimpse at Treasuries close-to-close from Friday and one might think it was a quiet week (though 30Y rallied 5bps the rest of the curve ended only modestly lower in yield) but in every other asset-class, the ‘Taper’ talk sent levered momo running for the exits… with JPY’s 2nd strongest week in 4 years the main carry-unwind driver.

Hindenburg Omen

The Hindenburg Omen is a combination of technical factors that attempt to measure the health of the NYSE, and by extension, the stock market as a whole. The goal of the indicator is to signal increased probability of a stock market crash.

The rationale is that under “normal conditions” a substantial number of stocks may set either new annual highs or new annual lows, but not both at the same time. As a healthy market possesses a degree of uniformity, whether up or down, the simultaneous presence of many new highs and lows may signal trouble.

Theoretically, the Hindenburg Omen could be applied to any stock exchange. However, some minor alterations to the omen might be needed to achieve similar results.

Street clashes erupt in Egypt during pro-Morsi rallies

Supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi take part in a demonstration in support of Morsi in Cairo, on August 9, 2013.

Supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi take part in a demonstration in support of Morsi in Cairo, on August 9, 2013.

Ten of thousands of supporters of Egypt’s ousted president marched Friday on the streets of Cairo and across the country, leading to clashes with opponents and security forces that injured dozens.

The marches during the Muslim holiday of Eid el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, come as Egypt’s government increasingly looks poised to break up sit-in protests by supporters of President Mohammed Morsi when the festivities end.

However, a leader in Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood maintained the aggressive rhetoric used by some opposing the military-backed interim government’s plans while addressing protesters Friday, raising the possibility of further bloodshed in the country.

“Kill as much as you like. I won’t move an inch,” Brotherhood leader Mohamed el-Beltagui said. “We will offer a million martyrs.”

Israeli Drone Strike Kills 5 in Egypt, Officials Say

An Israeli drone strike inside Egypt killed five suspected Islamic militants and destroyed a rocket launcher Friday, two senior Egyptian security officials said, marking a rare Israeli operation carried out in its Arab neighbor’s territory.

The strike, coming after a warning from Egypt caused Israel to briefly close an airport Thursday, potentially signals a significant new level of cooperation between the two former foes over security matters in the largely lawless Sinai Peninsula after a military coup ousted Egypt’s president. Egypt long has maintained that it wouldn’t allow other countries to use its territories as hotbed to launch attacks against other countries.

‘Affordable’ Care: $1 Pay Hike Costs Middle-Class Family $9,355 Hike in Premiums

When the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare) is fully enforced on individuals and families next year, a middle-aged, middle-class couple with three children could be hit with a $9,355 hike in their annual health-insurance premiums if their annual household income happens to increase by just $1.

Under ACA, all Americans are required to secure health insurance. Those who do not get it through their employer can buy it through government-run health-insurance exchanges, which the law requires to be set up in every state. People buying their Obamacare-mandated health coverage through these exchanges will be eligible for federal subsidies in the form of a refundable tax credit—as long as their adjusted gross household income is between 100 percent and 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

People whose household income is too small to qualify for the subsidy will be put on Medicaid. People whose household income exceeds 400 percent of the FPL will get no subsidy at all.

According to the IRS, which responded to a CNSNews.com inquiry on the issue, a household earning an annual income that is just $1 more than 400 percent of the FPL is ineligible for an Obamacare subsidy, period.

Israeli-Egyptian intelligence cooperation foiled Eilat missile attack, killed 5-6 terrorists

Intelligence sharing and military cooperation between Egypt and Israel foiled a terrorist missile attack from Sinai on Eilat Thursday, Aug. 8. Egyptian security officials reported that an Israeli drone fired a missile in the northern Sinai peninsula, killing five suspected Islamic militants and destroying one or more launchers. Egyptian military helicopters circled over head. The launcher or launchers, said the officials, were rigged for launching against targets in Israel from the vicinity of Egyptian Rafah in northern Sinai.

The Devil You Know?

See additional comments on Tea Party Nation.

There is an old saying that is appropriate for Colorado’s Senate President, John Morse. His “better to be safe than sorry” defense against a recall effort is better described as:

It is better to have the devil you know (than the devil you don’t).

Let’s expand this a little further. Isn’t this why we have a high rate for re-electing incumbents even when our legislative bodies have low public opinion ratings? I have lost count of the number of conversations which have turned into arguments over “voting for the lesser of two evils”.  And that is one of the main reasons that we are in the midst of losing our federal system of government to usurpers.

How do we rebuild our country? One step at a time using the principles given to us by our forefathers: Morality, Sacred Honor and Personal Sacrifice. Ask yourself how these principles apply to government officials and then ourselves. An overwhelming majority of the people would say that they hold these principles to be dear. Who would state that they are immoral, have no honor and would not help their fellow man when in need? But the real question is whether other people would say that you possess these characteristics. If you  know of people who live their lives according to these principles, then these are the people to elect and promote as statesmen.

“Imagine all the people” being moral, having Sacred honor and willing to sacrifice their fortunes for their children. It is not hard to imagine: it is hard to do. It is time to stop imagining.
