Gaza Beach Hotel: Muslim Brotherhood uprising command post

A group of six Muslim Brotherhood officials escaped from Egypt after their president was overthrown in a military coup July 3 and smuggled themselves into the Gaza Strip to lead an uprising against the military in Cairo, DEBKAfile’s exclusive intelligence sources disclose. Headed by Mahmud Izzat Ibrahim, a senior deputy of the Supreme Guide, the group has established a command post at the Gaza Beach Hotel, to organize operations against Egyptian military and security targets, in conjunction with Hamas and armed Al Qaeda-linked Salafist Bedouin in Sinai.

The ousted Islamist leaders hope their revolt will quickly spread out from Sinai to Egypt proper and topple the provisional rulers in Cairo.

Mahmoud Izzat, a doctor of medicine, known as the Muslim Brotherhood’s “iron man,” ranks fourth after Supreme Guide Muhammed Badie in the Muslim Brotherhood hierarchy. He was a key figure in handing down the policy decisions of the Guidance Office, of which he has been a member since 1981, to the movement’s Freedom and Justice Party in government and parliament.

The Other Verdict in the Trayvon Martin Trial

After four days of deliberation, the jurors reached a verdict that was expected by the trial that has captured the nation’s attention. Trayvon Martin was found guilty of murder in the first degree in the death of George Zimmerman. Mr. Martin had hoped to be tried as a minor since he was only 17 when he was arrested, but the death of Mr. Zimmerman by having his skull smashed repeatedly against a concrete pavement left the nation outraged. At first, there was little attention given to what was just another case of black on white crime. When the media found out the he was actually Hispanic,  a few local Florida affiliates picked up the story.

But the details released by the glory seeking Rachel Jeantel two months after the death, opened this case up for national attention as a hate crime. Mr. Martin’s attack was predicated on the premise that Mr. Zimmerman was a homosexual who was stalking him. Once the scrutiny started, the facts about Mr. Martin painted a picture of a troubled youth who allegedly was in possession of stolen property, was in trouble at school and regularly used drugs. The admission in court that Mr. Martin used the drug concoction known as Lean (Skittles, Arizona Watermelon drink and Robitussin) will probably be used as a mitigating  factor in the sentencing phase of this trial. Lean is known to produce psychosis and aggressive behavior which would account for Mr. Martin’s actions in this matter. The admission that he also used marijuana and had THC in his blood at the time of the murder will probably have little impact in his sentence.

Violent Clashes In Egypt Following Calls To ‘Lay Seige’ To The US Embassy

While Egypt may have left the front pages of the mainstream media, the boiling pot of tension is bubbling up nce again this morning. Ahram Online reports that violent clashes have occurred between pro- and anti-morsi groups near Tahrir Square, and the military has intervened with tanks. These clashes come on the heels of the Muslim Brotherhood calling on Egyptians to lay siege to the US embassy (for what he said was American support for Morsi’ ouster) “US Diplomats should leave Egypt… [we] hope they won’t be harmed.” and the family of the deposed leader claiming the military ‘kidnapped’ him.

A Muslim Brotherhood leader called on Egyptians to lay siege to the U.S embassy in Cairo to protest what he said was American support for the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

U.S. diplomats should leave Egypt, Essam El-Erian told Brotherhood supporters today in Cairo’s Nasr City suburb, where they’ve been staging a sit-in since Mursi’s July 3 removal by the army.

He said he hoped they wouldn’t be harmed. The U.S., which gives more than $1 billion a year to the Egyptian military, hasn’t labeled its intervention as a coup, though it has called for a quick transition to democracy.

Under the Beltway sun, protesters rallying on Saturday in support of Trayvon Martin laughed at a joke mocking the Father of our Country and gay people; laughter at least one progressive blogger tried to conceal.

During the mid-day Saturday vigil for Trayvon Martin in Washington, D.C., African-American comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory criticized the country’s majority support of same-sex marriage, making President George Washington the butt of the first joke in his speech.

“I’m talkin’ about ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’” said Gregory, “You can tell that to George Washington, with them tight silk pants he was wearin’, those high heeled shoes, ruffled shirt, a whig and some powder. So this been goin’ on for a long time [sic].”

Why Is this Important?

The economic recovery never happened. Factor in real inflation and “stimulus” and this cannot be debated. But on a personal level, the average working person can attest to this because they have changed their spending habits. The most visible (but not discussed) aspect of this is the impact on the mid level restaurant chains. Profits (and portion sizes) have decreased and shuttered restaurants are common place. But the lower fast food chains have benefited from this trend as people still wanted to eat out at lower priced chains. But now even the fast food chains are feeling the impact of the never ending recession/depression. McDonalds has missed revenue and earnings due To “Economic Uncertainty And Pressured Consumer Spending”.

Or in other words, our fannies are now in the deep fat fryer to be served up to the federal government on a fiat platter.

McDonalds Misses Revenue And Earnings Due To “Economic Uncertainty And Pressured Consumer Spending”

It must have been the weather: at least that is what we expect McDonalds will blame the latest (in a long series) of Q2 revenue misses, but also earnings as moments ago the fast food giant reported $1.38 EPS in Q2 earnings, while revenue of $7.08 billion missed expectations of $7.09 billion. The internals were just as ugly: Q2 comp sales rose 1% on expectations of a +1.5% print; Europe was down -0.1% with the bulk of the hit coming strangely enough from Germany and France. The rest was in line, with global comp sales up 1% vs Exp. 1%, however this being the weakest of all categories it is hardly offsetting what is becoming increasing a weak lower-end consumer story, as well as one of FX headwinds with forex eating into Q2 EPS by $0.02.

If Oil Inventories Are Surging, Why Is Gas Going Up?

Oil supply is outpacing demand, so why is the price of gas going up? Why is the price of gold and silver going down? Why is the stock market hitting record highs when earnings and the stock market volumes are declining? The answer to all of these questions is the same: the stock markets and the commodities markets are being manipulated. But everyone knows this and it is an acceptable way of life now in the United States. As the wealth of the people is being redistributed, most people think that this money is going to the huddled masses. While some of these ill gotten gains are reaching the “poor” through food stamps and Obama phones, it is a minimum used to gain votes and their support for an agenda.

A few years ago, I would have considered this to be conspiracy theory, fear mongering rhetoric. But as in most of history, the simple answer is the truth. I have been thinking about Glenn Beck’s latest book, “The Eye of Moloch” in which the government is keeping detailed information on every person in the country. The reason for unlimited surveillance again is simple: control. But that is not what has me thinking after reading the book. When the patriots gain control over the information system for a limited amount of time, they come to a startling conclusion about which information would be best to release to the people in order to show how evil our government has become. Enough information has already been given to the people to show them the truth and they have not reacted. Liberty is no longer understood and therefore has no value in our country.

So what will it take to overcome normalcy bias and stand up to tyranny? Does America need a Molly Ross to show us what real patriots will sacrifice in order to regain our freedom? After the Edward Snowden and Michael Hastings incidents, I believe that we may even be past this extreme measure. And that leaves only tyranny or revolution if you look at the simple facts of history.

Gold Breaks Above $1300 As Shorts Cover Most In 4 Months

Almost 11% of short gold positions were covered in the last week according to CFTC Commitment of Traders’ data. That is the largest weekly drop in net shorts for four months and the combined futures-and-options net long position jumped 13,287 contracts or an impressive 48% (the most since Nov 08). Following the ubiquitous “sell-while-Bernanke-is-speaking” dump last Wednesday gold has risen almost 4% touching $1320 this evening as Asia opens. So with Asian physical demand remaining high and COMEX vault’s running dry (and JPMorgan’s on fire), we wonder – now that Taper is off (according to equity market pundits) if this is the start of the long-awaited short-covering rally back to reality for the precious metal.

For more than two and a half years, Dr. Ramzi Mowafi, once Osama bin Laden’s personal physician, has led the most dangerous terrorist group in Sinai, Ansar al Jihad in the Sinai Peninsula, DEBKAfile’s counterterrorism sources reveal. A charismatic figure and able operational commander with good connections across the jihadist world, Mowafi has gathered around this group a legion of 7,000 to 9,000 armed men, a hodgepodge of Bedouin Salafists, Palestinian Hamas and Jihad operatives, Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood adherents and Sudanese and Yemeni radicals in search of jihad.

It is the Mowafi legion which is responsible for the series of deadly attacks on Egyptian military and security targets in Sinai and missile attacks on Israel.

Its deadliest operation was the multiple strike of Aug. 5, 2012, which left 16 Egyptian commandoes dead at their base in Rafah close to the Gazan and Israeli borders. The terrorists then seized their Egyptian victims’ armored vehicles and heavy weapons and used them to slam into the Kerem Shalom border crossing into Israel. One vehicle made it through and reached an IDF command base before a military helicopter destroyed it. That was the only time al Qaeda had attempted and almost managed to attack an Israeli military target.
