Organizing for Action: Gloating or Antagonizing?

Organizing for Action

Friend —

This is why we keep sending you emails, why we hire organizers, and why everyone’s continued involvement in this cause matters.

This week alone we saw big, consequential moments on things you care about:

— The Supreme Court struck down DOMA and dismissed Prop 8, huge victories for everyone who cares about equality.

— President Obama took the most decisive action on climate change any president has ever taken.

— One Texas state senator, thousands of volunteers, and hundreds of thousands watching the livestream online stood their ground to block an extreme anti-woman bill in the Texas legislature.

— The Senate is on the verge of passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

All that stuff we talk about and care about during election season?

The fights to get it done — and the moments that create the political reality we live in — happen between elections.

They’re happening now. This is the time for doing. That’s what OFA is about.

Make a donation of $5 or more to support this grassroots movement:

Whether it’s the NRA trying to stop progress on gun safety legislation that 90 percent of Americans support, or conservatives in a state legislature trying to ram through radical rollbacks of women’s rights, they are banking on you not paying attention.

They’re hoping you won’t jump in to the fight.

This week should make it clearer than ever why you need to.

And it’s only Wednesday.

More to come,

Jon

BLACK MOB STRIKES OHIO MOTHER

by Colin Flaherty

A Dayton, Ohio, mother of three who was nine months pregnant is now dead after she was shot in the abdomen during an episode of black mob violence.

Her child survived and is reported to be in critical condition.

The incident began late Wednesday afternoon when Dayton police broke up a large fight involving a mob of black women. Soon after, the crowd formed again. And once again fighting broke out, this time involving as many as 100 people.

Gunfire was exchanged.

It is not known whether gunshot victim, Dalyne Foster, was an active participant in the violence – or whether she was just an observer. Either way, she died at the hospital. Her brother told WHIO-TV news the child was due any day.

The Dayton incident is just the latest in a recent series of episodes of black mob violence around the country. Some on video. Some involving guns. Some involving bats and bricks and even a fork and large kitchen knives.

Almost all unreported as racial violence in the local media.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM JUSTICE SCALIA’S ANGRY DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT DISSENT

12 Cutting Highlights From Justice Scalias Angry DOMA Dissent

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s acerbic style was on full display in his dissent from the high court’s decision to strike down the provision of the federal Defense of Marriage Act denying benefits to married gay couples.

Scalia excoriated Justice Anthony Kennedy’s majority opinion in United States v. Windsor as “rootless and shifting” and held that the court had no standing to take the case. Here are 12 sharp-tongued highlights:

• The Court is eager—hungry—to tell everyone its view of the legal question at the heart of this case. Standing in the way is an obstacle, a technicality of little interest to anyone but the people of We the People, who created it as a barrier against judges’ intrusion into their lives. They gave judges, in Article III, only the “judicial Power,” a power to decide not abstract questions but real, concrete “Cases” and “Controversies.” Yet the plaintiff and the Government agree entirely on what should happen in this lawsuit. They agree that the court below got it right; and they agreed in the court below that the court below that one got it right as well. What, then, are we doing here?

• That is jaw-dropping. It is an assertion of judicial supremacy over the people’s Representatives in Congress and the Executive. It envisions a Supreme Court standing (or rather enthroned) at the apex of government, empowered to decide all constitutional questions, always and everywhere “primary” in its role.

• There is, in the words of Marbury, no “necessity [to] expound and interpret” the law in this case; just a desire to place this Court at the center of the Nation’s life.

Pelosi: ‘Who Cares’ What Bachmann Thinks about DOMA Ruling

Nancy Pelosi

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday she didn’t care about Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-Minn.) statement that no man can undo the holy institution of marriage after the high court ruled a portion of the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional.

“Who cares,” Pelosi said in response to a reporter’s question about what she thought about Bachmann reacting to the ruling by saying the decision “cannot undo God’s word.”

After the court struck down in a 5-4 decision on Wednesday Section 3 of the federal law that recognizing marriage as a union between one man and one woman, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) issued a statement.

“Marriage was created by the hand of God,” Bachmann said in the statement. “No man, not even a Supreme Court, can undo what a holy God has instituted.

“Today, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to join the trend, despite the clear will of the people’s representatives through DOMA,” Bachmann said. “What the Court has done will undermine the best interest of children and the best interests of the United States.”

America – God Sheds His Grace on Thee No More

National Cathedral (credit: Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

Churches around the country are celebrating the ruling of the Supreme Court to accept gay marriage. The Word of God obviously is no longer followed in our churches. Why the government is part of the holy union between one man, one woman and God should be the question foremost on our minds today. But the answer is obvious: they want complete control. And it is obvious that our churches are more concerned with image and power than God.

This reminds me of the following:

But the Protestant Church would soon prove to be a stumbling block to Hitler’s plans to “nazify” German society, including its churches. The reason was a reaction to the emergence of the Deutsche Christen (German Christian) church, a nationalistic Protestant group that identified with Nazi ideology and hoped to create a national Reich Church that would embody Nazi ideals. The German Christians won the national church elections in July 1933 and quickly tried to enforce their agenda, which included the adoption of “Aryan laws” within the church (permitting only racially pure Germans to hold church positions) and the eradication of all Jewish influences from Christian scriptures, liturgies and hymns.

How soon we forget that our churches can be manipulated by the government and courts to suit their own agendas. As for the Grace of God on America, it is no more. We can only look inside ourselves for grace based on our faith and Sacred honor.

Russia evacuates Tartus, also military, diplomatic personnel from Syria. High war alert in Israel

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb3buYKs6lc

Shortly after the DEBKA aired a special video on the Syrian war’s widening circle, Moscow announced Wednesday June 26, that the evacuation which had begun Friday of all military and diplomatic personnel from Syria was now complete, including the Russian naval base at Tartus.

“Russia decided to withdraw its personnel because of the risks from the conflict in Syria, as well as the fear of an incident involving the Russian military that could have larger consequences,” said a defense ministry official in Moscow. He stressed that a 16-ship naval task force in the eastern Mediterranean remains on post and arms shipments, including anti-air weapons, would continue to the Syrian government in keeping with former contracts.

In another sign of an impending escalation in Syria, the Israeli Golan brigade staged Wednesday an unannounced war maneuver on the Golan, attended by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and top army chiefs. In London, Prime Minister David Cameron called the government’s National Security Council into session in Downing Street on Syria. Opposition leader Ed Milliband was invited to attend the meeting, a custom observed only when issues of the highest security importance are discussed.

Earlier Wednesday, DEBKAfile carried the following report in its special video presentation under the heading: Putin and Obama cross swords on Syrian. What Next?

The sullen confrontation between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama at the G8 Summit in Northern Ireland last week condemned Syria to five months of escalating, unresolved vicious warfare – that is until the two leaders meet again in September.

For now, tempers are heating up between Washington and Moscow on Syria and other things too, notably the elusive American fugitive Edward Snowden.
US and Israeli intelligence watchers see the Syrian crisis entering seven ominous phases:

A Message from Organizing for Action – Thirteen States Down, 37 to Go

Friend —

The Supreme Court’s ruling this morning made history.

Now, the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional — meaning that all couples will be equal in the eyes of the federal law. And California’s Prop 8 is dismissed, clearing the way for same-sex couples in California to marry once again.

For everyone who cares about equality, we’ve come so far in the past few years.

This is a call to action — this is a fight we will win.

We will go state by state if we have to — backed by a broad movement of millions who know a thing or two about making history. And OFA is going to be there every step of the way.

So if you believe that all people should be able to marry who they love, and if you’re ready to fight for it — today’s a great day to say it.

Add your name — stand up for marriage equality right now.

This has been a long-fought battle, and there is a lot of fight still ahead of us. But I’d like to believe that some of the hardest fights are behind us.

We have history on our side, and we’ve never had more momentum than we do right now.

Thirteen states down, 37 to go.

Say you’re a part of this fight all the way:

Thanks — more soon on what’s next,

The Trigger Has Been Pulled And The Slaughter Of The Bonds Has Begun

The Bears Are Unleashed On Wall Street

What does it look like when a 30 year bull market ends abruptly?  What happens when bond yields start doing things that they haven’t done in 50 years?  If your answer to those questions involves the word “slaughter”, you are probably on the right track.  Right now, bonds are being absolutely slaughtered, and this is only just the beginning.  Over the last several years, reckless bond buying by the Federal Reserve has forced yields down to absolutely ridiculous levels.  For example, it simply is not rational to lend the U.S. government money at less than 3 percent when the real rate of inflation is somewhere up around 8 to 10 percent.  But when he originally announced the quantitative easing program, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said that he intended to force interest rates to go down, and lots of bond investors made a lot of money riding the bubble that Bernanke created.  But now that Bernanke has indicated that the bond buying will be coming to an end, investors are going into panic mode and the bond bubble is starting to burst.  One hedge fund executive told CNBC that the “feeling you are getting out there is that people are selling first and asking questions later”.  And the yield on 10 year U.S. Treasuries just keeps going up.  Today it closed at 2.59 percent, and many believe that it is going to go much higher unless the Fed intervenes.  If the Fed does not intervene and allows the bubble that it has created to burst, we are going to see unprecedented carnage.

The Transformation of America

Another 5-4 split decision from the Supreme Court. This ruling means the federal government must recognize gay marriages as being legal by the states (12 states and DC). It is clear that the Supreme Court is more interested in politics than the Constitution or the future of the Republic.

Let me be clear: this case was never about equality. It is about the destruction of the standard definition of marriage to further erode what little morality this country has left. If it was about equal benefits, then the decision would have been to recognize civil unions between men and women. What is next? The pundits on the right are claiming marriages between three people or marriage between a human and an animal. This is irrelevant. The victory to destroy morality and our country’s Judeo/Christian foundation should be our focus.

From CNBC:

President Barack Obama, in a post on Twitter, said that the ruling was a “historic step forward for #MarriageEquality.”

Kennedy was joined in the majority by the four members of the court’s liberal wing, Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. Dissenting were Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

Scalia, in his dissent, wrote: “We have no power to decide this case. And even if we did, we have no power under the Constitution to invalidate this democratically adopted legislation. The Court’s errors on both points spring forth from the same diseased root: an exalted conception of the role of this institution in America.”

Elections have consequences as we now see by the Obama appointees on the Supreme Court. This decision also is a reflection on our churches which idly sit by as the attacks at the gates continue. Only the Catholic Church is standing up to the Supreme Court by fighting the mandate to fund abortions starting on August 1, 2013. Would any church leader care to comment on these verses from Romans 1:

Chinese Banks Stop Lending Due To Liquidity Freeze

If one thought the schizophrenic lies out of Europe between 2010 and 2013 were bad enough (the bulk of which it now appears were orchestrated by Mario Draghi), here comes China, a country which already has a “credibility” issue so to say, which has no choice but to lie as blatantly as possible in order to preserve some semblance of stability. The reason: as first forecast here months ago, and as has subsequently materialized, the credit/liquidity collapse in the country that lives and breathes on credit creation (the bulk of which is created in the shadow banking system) is rippling through the banking sector and causing unprecedented fallout for a financial industry that is already starved for every marginal yuan (and in a Keynesian “credit=growth” world, the economic crush is just waiting beyond the next corner).

Not unexpectedly following news that various retail and online banking services had been impaired in the early part of the week at China’s biggest banks, now Caixin reports that banks are simply shutting lending to both businesses and individuals.

From Caixin:

A number of banks have temporarily halted lending to businesses and individuals apparently due to mounting pressure from liquidity shortages.

They include some branches of Bank of China (BOC) and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), sources from the two banks said.

The bank was already having a hard time keeping up with deposit-to-loan ratio requirements even before the liquidity shortages hit, not to mention executives’ recent determination to sort out the bank’s liquidity management and control loans.
