“Are Republicans Powerless or Are They Conning You?”

Akron, OH – 27 July 2011

“Republican politicians are pretending to act, but they’re actually playacting,” says Jim Babka, President of DownsizeDC.org, Inc. “House Republicans could balance the budget right now, simply by refusing to raise the debt ceiling. They don’t need the cooperation of the President or Senate to accomplish this. They don’t even need to take a vote. They can simply ‘do nothing.’ Just leave the debt ceiling where it is.”

Babka described the pretense this way: “The GOP, and numerous conservative groups, would have their supporters believe that the House Republicans are powerless. That in order to…

    • stop deficit spending, they must first do years more of it.
    • stop expanding the national debt, they must first increase it by 17%.
    • make Congress live within its means, they must first execute the cumbersome process of ratifying a dangerous amendment to the Constitution that won’t take effect for many years.”

“The truth,” charged Babka, “is that the Republican leadership is trying to hustle the GOP’s supporters. The Republican leadership prefers business as usual, so they can continue to borrow and spend to buy votes, reward friends, and punish enemies.”

“In reality,” says Babka, whose organization has 31,000 members, “Cap the debt equals a balanced budget, NOW. And that would also Downsize DC,” Babka concluded with a smile.

This Debt Debate Nonsense

Here’s is a common sense article that explains how simple this whole thing is to make go away. It just shows how the politicians, all of them, want to hold us captive.

How the gov’t could save $1.6 trillion and solve the “crisis” instantly WITHOUT raising the debt ceiling:

From Dan Ferris in The 12% Letter:

… There’s another solution to the debt ceiling problem that would instantly eliminate $1.6 trillion in government debt.

In other words, it would instantly reduce the national debt to approximately $1.6 trillion below the debt ceiling. That would give the President and Congress at least a year to hash out an agreement on spending cuts and tax increases.

The plan is elegantly simple and radical.

H.R. 822 – National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act

Do concealed-carry laws lead to increased gun violence? The Violence Policy Center counts 319 people killed by concealed-handgun permit-holders, although it’s hard to know what role, if any, the permits played in those killings. Crime is complex. But common sense needn’t be: More hidden guns increase the potential for violence, and that can’t be good.

The above excerpt comes from an article on Bloomberg.com. Common sense easily sees through yellow journalism. Reporting the news is different than offering commentary: especially when that commentary that is a poorly written rationalization to reflect the personal convictions of the author. Here is the legislation to allow us to defend ourselves as intended by the 2nd amendment:

H.R.822 – National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011

To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide a national standard in accordance with which nonresidents of a State may carry concealed firearms in the State.

Here are some details:

All I Need to Know about the State of Our Economy Is DXY:IND and GLD

DXY:IND is the dollar spot index and GLD is the ETF for gold. The dollar spot index represents the value of our FRN vs. a basket of world currencies. Although the dollar has risen recently, this was an anomaly due to the collapse of the Euro. These two indices acurately reflect the state of our economy better than the stock market indices.

The stock market has risen 4.06% in the past month (courtesy of cnnfn.com):

Standard & Poor’s Statement on the Credit Rating of the United States

The following video from Standard & Poor’s explains their position for downgrading the United States’ credit rating within the next 90 days.

Keep in mind that they expect the debt ceiling to be raised and this is not a factor in their downgrade analysis. Continue reading

We’re Mad As Hell and We’re Not Going to Take It Anymore

The following video is posted by Mr. Garvin and it is the only video that he has posted. As I write this, the video has 39,513 views since it was published on July 10th. Mr. Garvin captures the sentiment of the everyday man in America except for one thing: it is the sentiment of the everyday man from 60 years ago.

The problem with America is that the Mr. Garvins of the country, who are still the economic backbone of the country, are now in the minority. We have no voice and the fruits of our labor are stolen by the government. The entitlement culture has voted us into forced slave labor. Continue reading

Obama Thinks He Is President of a Democracy

President Obama spoke at the National Council of La Raza’s annual conference on July 25, 2011. It appears that his base from the 2008 elections is abandoning him and he is branching out. Since his first re-election campaign video is in Spanish (below), we see where he will be focusing his voting strategy through 2012.

Although I agree with him that our immigration system is broken, his idea of reform will not get him votes from the American public. During his address, Mr. Obama made the following statement concerning our form of government:

TREASURY SEC. GEITHNER REVEALS FAILURE OF LEFT by Frank Roche

On this week’s, Fox News with Chris Wallace, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner aggressively revealed a damming truth while laying out his case for raising America’s debt ceiling.

Geithner, on the defensive (seems like he has been since he was plucked from the NY Fed to run Treasury by Obama), and I’m paraphrasing just a bit here, said:

“…This is a great nation, with all the resources of this great nation, we have 1 of every 8 Americans on food stamps, and 40% of those born in America today are born into families on Medicaid.”

Boehner Says Republicans Must ‘Sacrifice’ to Avoid Default

The Speaker of the House of Representatives has announced that Republicans must sacrifice to avoid default by raising the debt ceiling. I have several issues with Mr. Boehner’s statement.

  1. Not raising the debt ceiling does not mean default.
  2. Raising the debt ceiling $1 trillion and cutting $1 trillion in spending results in zero: 1-1=0. If the net result of the proposal is zero, then cut spending now and do not raise the debt ceiling. I understand it is not this simple but it could be done.
  3. Why didn’t he propose this for the past two debt ceiling raises?
  4. Why didn’t he propose this earlier than the eleventh hour?
  5. And most important of all, Continue reading

Monsanto Official Beaten by Farmers in India

Monsanto has cornered the market for genetically modified organism (GMO) seeds. In addition, they also conveniently offer weed killer that will not harm their seeds. Generous application of herbicide eliminates the need to till the soil prior to planting. What a sweet deal for Monsanto and the farmers who pay and work less to harvest their crops. And it is environmentally friendly by reducing the carbon footprint of the farming industry. What could go wrong?

What does India think about Monsanto?

Exactly where Monsanto’s trail across the globe that has left so many dead and dying begins is not known, nor is the future this model agency of the American military industrial complex known.

The Buck Ended Here

The debt ceiling “crisis” is on center stage today. I received an email again today with the following quote from then Sen. Obama in 2006:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership . Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.”

This quote makes the rounds every time the debt ceiling is reached and makes the point of Obama’s hypocrisy but what does this accomplish? The American public knows that we have no leadership in Washington. The bottom line is that the debt, the debt ceiling, United States’ credit rating, unemployment and government spending have not been addressed by Congress and the president.

The latest report on the debt ceiling meetings without Obama stated:

The Tea Party is Playing Russian Roulette and They Will Lose

John Boehner will present a plan to raise the debt ceiling by Sunday (July 24th) evening. This deadline is to prevent a “roil” when the Asian stock markets open tomorrow night. Keep in mind that this will only be a plan, not legislation, which can only lead to another continuing resolution to raise the debt ceiling. The deadline to draft legislation was missed last week as Timothy Geithner warned us.

Christian Cooper, head of U.S. dollar derivatives trading in New York at Jefferies & Co. (one of 20 primary dealers that trade with the U.S. Federal Reserve) made the following statement today concerning the TEA Party: Continue reading

Information From a Friend

Hi everybody!

I just wanted to take a minute to share a potentially useful tool I stumbled onto this morning, and hope you’ll also find it compelling enough to share with family, friends, and your blog-o-sphere buddies. Here’s the scoop:

While surfing around Amazon.com in search of a particular book on plant propagation, I happened across an interesting title which listed the Kindle version as $0.00 in price. Being the thrifty (insert grin here) survivalist I am, I bit. Sure enough, it was FREE to download.

Now here’s the catch….I don’t own (or care to) a Kindle. I decided to click on the “buy now with one-click” button anyway to see what happens. (Recognize that you have to already have an Amazon.com account to use that one-click feature, but you can easily set one up if you don’t use Amazon already) When I did so, a prompt appeared advising me that I did not have an app associated with Kindle, and some options were offered. Interestingly, a FREE Kindle for PC option was among them.
