When EVIL Conspires With STUPID …

I’ve posted several articles to argue the case that the membership of the US House should “do nothing” and refuse to increase the debt ceiling.

An assumption of this action is acknowledgement that the general government must shrink over time, and not be allowed to expand on some ‘lesser growth trajectory’.

The logic of this proposition accepts the fact that such action would be painful.  However the pain is necessary for us to return these united States to fiscal solvency.

The alternative is dramatically stated in the case presented by the National Inflation Association:

“By the end of 2011, we are confident that not only will we see QE3 under a new name, but the Fed will act to force banks to lend their $1.6 trillion in excess reserves. It is a joke that we are debating spending cuts of $70 billion over the next two years, when only very dramatic across the board spending cuts of 50% or more of the total budget will give the U.S. any hope of balancing the budget and avoiding hyperinflation. Best case scenario, if the U.S. government cuts spending by 50% or more in all areas of the budget including entitlement programs and is able to prevent hyperinflation, NIA still believes we will see the U.S. dollar lose 90% of its purchasing power this decade with the price of gold rising to above $16,000 per ounce.”

The Debt-Limit Hobbits

The labelling of the Tea Party as hobbits continues as shown in the following excerpt from the Wall Street Journal:

The Debt-Limit Hobbits

The GOP fantasy caucus is empowering Nancy Pelosi

The debt-limit hobbits should also realize that at this point the Washington fracas they are prolonging isn’t helping their cause. Republicans are not looking like adults to whom voters can entrust the government.

I was asked recently what title I would like used to introduce me for an upcoming event. My response never waivers when I am asked this question: Continue reading

Let History Huzzah for South Carolina

Yesterday’s votes for debt ceiling legislation showed America which representatives and senators are willing to make the hard choices to solve our nation’s addiction to spending. Most politicians voted along party lines knowing that the legislation was not a solution but another band-aid to the debt crisis.

I wrote an article outlining the twenty-two Republican Congressmen who stood up and drew the land in the sand to vote against Boehner’s plan. After the Senate voted to defeat this legislation as previously guaranteed by both Harry Reid and Obama, another point needs to be made concerning South Carolina.

Twenty-two Republicans Who Drew the Line in the Sand

John Boehner’s debt-ceiling bill passed the House tonight with the minimum votes needed: 218. All of North Carolina’s Republican representatives supported this measure to raise the debt ceiling even though the cuts over ten years will make no difference in our economic downfall. Let’s hope that Mrs. Ellmers can be Tea Partied in the upcoming primary next year.

Congress should have passed this legislation and had it signed by the president without having to spend the entire federal employees’ pension fund in May. They should have had meaningful spending cuts instead of less than $100 billion a year over the next ten years. And they should have passed it without attacking American patriots who understand what it takes to live within their means.

The no votes: 22 GOPers who balked Boehner

Speaker John Boehner pushed his debt-ceiling bill through the House Friday night with the support of 218 Republicans. Here are the 22 no votes: Continue reading

An Alarming Trend – Part II

As noted in a previous article, I outlined the stock sell-off every day for one straight week in early June due to program trades:

In the last hour of the day, trades are executed by large brokerage/investment firms for buy/sell orders of mutual funds. If you buy or sell a mutual fund at 9:30 AM, the trade is not executed until the end of the day. When the stock market collapsed in 2008, we saw the same pattern as people dumped their mutual funds and the market declined sharply in the last hour of each day. Imagine this picture without the large corporate purchases of stocks to fund company 401K plans without regard to price at the end of the day to offset these declines.

This same trend was repeated this week as shown below courtesy of cnnfn.com:

Ten Years After September 11th, 2001

September 11, 2011 marks the 10 year anniversary of the attacks on our nation in New York City, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93 that was lost on a Pennsylvania field. The 9/12 Project was formed as a remembrance of who Americans were on the day after those devastating attacks. On 9/12/2001 we came together as one America. We were not unified by our political party, the color of our skin or the religion that we practiced. Instead Americans stood shoulder-to-shoulder in their grief that brought us all together. We were united by the principles and values that made our nation the greatest nation in the world.

The 9/12 Project will observe the 10 year anniversary in NYC at the Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City overlooking the Manhattan Skyline on Monday, September 12, 2011. Continue reading

What Are The Consequences If A Debt Deal Is Not Reached According To The IMF?

Christine Lagarde is the IMF’s managing director. In the following videos, she outlines her thoughts on the consequences of Congress not addressing the debt ceiling by the August 2nd deadline.

Watch her demeanor in this first video from two weeks ago:

DEBT DEBATE, CREDIT RATING & HYPERBOLE

Our elected officials in Washington, DCare embarrassing themselves, and those of us who voted for them…again.

What is it about human nature that causes us to reach the point of brinkmanship?  Rhetorical of course, though here we are again witnessing our elected representatives taking a policy decision down to the wire.  Only this time, it really is serious, unlike the 2009 Christmas vote on Obamacare.

While government finance and accounting can quickly get very complex, the basic problem we are confronted with is not.  Government revenues, in the form of taxes and fees, are out of balance with government expenditures for national defense, international affairs, health, Medicare, income security, Social Security, net interest, and a litany of smaller programs.

In order to correct the imbalance, the choices are simple. Continue reading

Why Would Standard & Poor’s Change Its Position on Our Credit Rating?

As outlined in an earlier article, Standard & Poor’s statement on July 14th required verifiable spending cuts of $4 trillion in order to maintain our nation’s triple A credit rating. Although all debt ceiling plans currently in play do not address this requirement, Standard & Poor’s representative testified in Congress yesterday and then recanted their previous position.

It seems that Washington made Standard & Poor’s a deal that they could not refuse:

Is our government so corrupt that this is how they deal with “issues”? Continue reading

The Definition of a Petulant Child

Debbie Wasserman Schultz made the following comment today:

“Aren’t we at the point where the closer we get to chaos, the more concern that  there should be about coming to the table and compromising with Democrats? This is not leadership. This is almost like  dictatorship. I know they want to force the outcome that … their extremists  would like to impose. But they are getting ready to spark panic and chaos, and  they seem to be OK with that. And it’s just really disappointing, and  potentially devastating.”

The definition of petulant is easily irritated or angered, especially in a childish way

Petulant is derived from the Latin petulans, which means “insolent.” Someone petulant is insolent and irritated easily, often in an immature or unreasonable way. Petulant is a more sophisticated way of describing someone who is being cranky and irritable, especially without a real reason.

Usage Examples:

The petulant child threw a fit when she couldn’t find her toy.

Ms. Schultz’s fit as shown by her immature comments reflect the level of frustration she feels towards “extremists”. Continue reading

If You Can’t Fix It, Do A Comedy Routine

I watched C-Span2 in disbelief as Al Franken gave his talk on the debt ceiling today. I understand the use of hyperbole to give his view of our fiscal crisis but is this the time for theatrics on the floor of the Senate? The people of Minnesota owe our country an apology for electing a comedian to represent their interests in Congress and marginalize a serious situation with the use of a prop welcoming terrorists if the debt ceiling is not raised.

Mr. Franken should remember the consequences of theatrics in Congress: Alan Grayson lost his seat in part for his infamous “die quickly” speech: Continue reading
