That ain’t no plane crash!
Exactly what I thought. Mighty big explosion.
The jet had apparently just taken off from the airport.
That means heavy with a full load of avgas.
Burn it in a jet engine and you’re going places; crash into the pavement and you just created a very large bomb.
The blast is about what one would expect from 6,700# of fuel ignited.
Think it was a Lear Jet… looks like it powered into the ground. Evidently it was on a medical flight. Just damn.
A full tank of gas to get back to Mexico, for some reason throttles still full up, on fire before they hit so people on board likely already dead. Lots of flammables on a medical flight. One oxygen leak and you could have got ignited and caused something like that; pilot gets knocked forward from the blast with hands on throttles. I have been up close to a Harrier crashing with a full tank; it was very similar except it was out in the middle of nowhere and the pilot thankfully had ejected. Terrible tragedy all around.
They say it hit a gas pipe on the ground. Thus, the big fireball. Too many medical transport aircraft are crashing. Usually helicopters. Might be skimping on maintenance.
That makes sense.
