The 5 stages of Grieving/Loss Process In Relationship To The Battle for Our Republic – Part 2

The first article outlining the five stages of grieving for our Republic was posted in February, 2011. It is time to revisit the thoughts outlined in that article again. Why now? People sensed something was wrong when Barack Obama became our president. Americans who understand what this country really stands for, recognized the tenuous grip on Liberty that we were facing. But now our sense of trouble has become manifested into reality: we are not facing a precipice in the future but are on the precipice itself.

The time frame between now and the end of the year will bring changes that no one can fully anticipate but we know that these changes will not be positive. Especially for our Liberty. Reviewing the five stages of the loss of our country at this time may help people cope with their actions and feelings now.

1. Denial- Socialism could never happen to America.  The American spirit would never allow it.  Our Constitution protects us from this.

2. Anger- An increase in group protests, demonstrating anger with the politicians and political parties,  Tea Parties, etc.

3. Bargaining- Compromising on your values, voting for the lesser of two evils,  convincing yourself that socialism isn’t so bad – after all the government will at least take care of me so sacrificing a little freedom is acceptable.

4. Depression- Basically being defeated, giving up, low voter turnout, apathy and complacency, hopelessness. There is nothing we can do to change the situation.

5. Acceptance-  You recognize you may not win the battle, but at least you are going to keep up the fight.  You may have a renewal of your faith. You also recognize you should prepare for the worse and hope for the best.   You no longer are immobilized with fear. I consider this the resurrection phase myself.  Becoming functional again and the ability to deal with the situation, to prepare one’s one’s self for the future and embrace it.  Ready to move on.

So where are we 18 months later?

1. Denial – Socialism has taken over America and its voting process. Food stamp recipients are at an all time here. People getting jobs are outnumbered by people going on disability after being on unemployment for extended periods. Both parties have abandoned the Constitution. Our justice department has two tiers of justice and the Socialists are on the top tier. The Supreme Court has ruled against the Constitution and Congress cannot enact a national budget.

2. Anger – While the protests and demonstration have stopped, that energy is now channeled into electing “conservatives” in the Republican party. Anyone who points out the wisdom of our founding fathers is berated and marginalized. The 2012 presidential election has become a “do or die” event for the very soul of our country for most people. Any mention of not supporting Mitt Romney is met with scorn and derision even though these people have no idea what his platform will be if elected. Shooting the messenger has replaced any form of honest discussion for solutions.

3. Bargaining – this has not changed in the last 18 months from above. Ben Franklin said it best:

“Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security”

Well we have traded Liberty for security and have lost both. The NDAA, drones, executive orders and DHS preparations are the result of our “trade”.

4. Depression – The nation’s depression has only deepened as our faith in God is replaced by a reliance on government for our wants, needs and supposed “rights” by the people who are supporting this fundamental change of our country. There is something that we can do but like the alcoholic who knows that he is trapped, we must hit bottom first in order to pick ourselves back up and start rebuilding. The false hope that one election will be the start of a new beginning must be cast aside: politicians will not solve our problems or return our Liberty.

5. Acceptance – We may not win the battle in the near future but we do have some advantages on our side. We know that Liberty is a natural law that no man can be allowed to take away. We know that it is our duty under the second amendment to defend ourselves against the federal government. And we must never forget that silence in the face of evil, is itself evil, God will not hold us guiltless. Once we acknowledge that this is a fight against evil, we have defined our enemy and  can begin to fight.

Now for those who cower in fear and/or have traded their country for a political party’s agenda, may your chains rest lightly on your shoulders: God will not hold you guiltless. For those who marginalize the watchmen and label us for writing instead of acting, you do not know your history. Let me remind you of the first amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Our founding fathers recognized the necessity for free speech in order to be a free society. Do not let your ignorance underscore the importance of the pen like Thomas Paine or of statesmen who have the courage to stand up in an assembly like Patrick Henry.  Do not let your fear and anger attack patriots who are risking their freedom and honor to save the country.

The 5 stages of Grieving/Loss Process In Relationship To The Battle for Our Republic – Part 1

The five stages of the grieving process described below is a commonly accepted way by which people deal with grief and tragedy, especially when diagnosed with a terminal illness or facing a life changing  loss.  It was first introduced by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross in her 1969 book, On Death and Dying.  I propose that it is what many U.S. citizens are going through today in light of the strong socialist movement taking over much of our country.

Denial – “I feel fine.”; “This can’t be happening, not to me.”
Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of situations and individuals that will be left behind after death.
