The main reason Russian Special Forces like the M4 firing a 5.56 X 45 NATO round, versus the Kalashnikov AK-47 firing a 7.62X39, is that the weapon is more lightweight, ergonomic, and more accurate.

AR15 vs AK47. Ford vs Chevy. I have listened to too many conversations concerning which is better. While I agree it is important to familiarize yourself with as many weapons platforms as possible, you will select one platform to be your primary. The choice is simple: accuracy, lightweight and ergonomics (as stated in the article) make the AR15 the best choice for combat. I understand the AK’s points in its favor but I will retell a conversation between two veterans. The advocate for the AK was extolling the virtues of its combat power in Europe against Americans by Russian forces. After listening patiently for several minutes, the combat veteran simply stated that the reason the other man was able to be back here in the United States to give his opinion was due to the fact that we used M4/M16 platform. There was no reply and the discussion was over.
The real discussion is not AR15 vs AK47. The real discussion is why so many people have AR15 rifles but do not have any training on its use, care and safety.

Like most articles on firearms, mistakes in nomenclature are common. I know that AR stands for Armalite instead of assault rifle. The title of the post is the title of the original article. Your title is more accurate.
Correct! There are no such things as “American assault rifles”, except in the fake news, useful idiot, drive by press.
Russian Sf are no different than US SF in training with the enemies weapons. that’s all.
I didn’t read the article, but the blurb mentioning 7.62x39 ….. Russians have not used that in a looonnngggg time. 5.45x39 has been in service many moons.
As I said earlier, most articles on firearms are poorly written/researched. I was waiting to read 30 round clips for the M4.
If I was king…all military would be trained with every other military weapon in existence.
