Have you been paying attention to what has been happening in Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Ukraine, Turkey and China? If you are like most Americans, you have not been. Most Americans don’t seem to really care too much about what is happening in the rest of the world, but they should. In major cities all over the globe right now, there is looting, violence, shortages of basic supplies, and runs on the banks. We are not at a “global crisis” stage yet, but things are getting worse with each passing day. For a while, I have felt that 2014 would turn out to be a major “turning point” for the global economy, and so far that is exactly what it is turning out to be. The following are 20 early warning signs that we are rapidly approaching a global economic meltdown…
#1 The looting, violence and economic chaos that is happening in Argentina right now is a perfect example of what can happen when you print too much money…
For Dominga Kanaza, it wasn’t just the soaring inflation or the weeklong blackouts or even the looting that frayed her nerves.
It was all of them combined.
At one point last month, the 37-year-old shop owner refused to open the metal shutters protecting her corner grocery in downtown Buenos Aires more than a few inches — just enough to sell soda to passersby on a sweltering summer day.
#2 The value of the Argentine Peso is absolutely collapsing. Continue reading

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) proposed using the Internal Revenue Service to curtail Tea Party group funding during a speech on how to “exploit” and “weaken” the movement at the Center for American Progress on Thursday.
Arguing that Tea Party groups have a financial advantage after the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, Schumer said the Obama administration should bypass Congress and institute new campaign finance rules through the IRS.
“It is clear that we will not pass anything legislatively as long as the House of Representatives is in Republican control, but there are many things that can be done administratively by the IRS and other government agencies—we must redouble those efforts immediately,” Schumer said.

A conservative scholar and author known recently for his critical works on President Barack Obama has been indicted in New York on charges he violated campaign finance laws.
Federal prosecutors announced the charges Thursday against Dinesh D’Souza, who made the anti-Obama documentary “2016: Obama’s America.” They say he’ll be arraigned Friday on charges he directed $20,000 in illegal contributions to be made in the New York Senate race in 2012. The funds allegedly headed to the Wendy Long campaign, who unsuccessfully ran for Hillary Clinton’s U.S. Senate seat.
D’Souza found out he was being investigated by the feds in the mid-2013, months after his anti-Obama documentary earned roughly $33 million at the box office, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film went on to become the second most popular political documentary in U.S. history.

Immigration Activists and Concerned Citizens,
We will meet with Congresswoman Renee Ellmers’ staff in her Dunn, NC office at 2 pm on 11 February. Please let me know if you wish to attend, and if you are one of her constituents in the Second Congessional District. Those of you who live near Cary — you can carpool with me if you wish. This is your chance to speak more directly to the Congresswoman. Emails and phone calls do have value, but personal visits count for much more.
Her local office for our meeting is 406 West Broad Street – Dunn, NC 28334
Visit this weblink below for mapquest or go to google maps and type in the address for directions:
We will discuss immigration reform and press hard on Ellmers’ position of a “pathway to citizenship” for illegals and needing more guestworkers. Her positions on immigration reform are, quite frankly, terrible. Our discussion will be firm but polite.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Ron Woodard
Director

Quite a day…
It seems that without the safety net of Fed flows, the reality that bad news might just be bad news and event risk is a real risk just started to hit home. The deer is back…

Pop singer Clay Aiken is assembling a political team for a run at the Democratic nomination in the 2nd Congressional District, sources told WRAL News on Thursday.
Aiken, a Raleigh native, is expected to make an official announcement next month, sources said.
…
Aiken was the runner-up on “American Idol” in 2003 and later put out six albums and appeared on Broadway and on reality television. His most noted foray into the political arena came two years ago when he spoke out against North Carolina’s constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage.
It is too easy to cheat in North Carolina Elections – just ask Clay Aiken.
Get ready for the next era in retail—one that will be characterized by far fewer shops and smaller stores.
On Tuesday, Sears said that it will shutter its flagship store in downtown Chicago in April. It’s the latest of about 300 store closures in the U.S. that Sears has made since 2010. The news follows announcements earlier this month of multiple store closings from major department stores J.C. Penney and Macy’s.
Further signs of cuts in the industry came Wednesday, when Target said that it will eliminate 475 jobs worldwide, including some at its Minnesota headquarters, and not fill 700 empty positions.

U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions — a key indicator of illegal immigration — increased for the second year in a row in fiscal 2013, the agency reported in a recent summary of border activity.
Apprehensions — the number of people caught trying to enter the country illegally — totaled 420,789 in Fiscal Year 2013 (Oct. 1, 2012-Sept. 30 2013). That’s 15.35 percent above the 364,768 apprehensions in FY 2012; and 23.67 percent above the 340,252 apprehensions in FY 2011.
The Border Patrol says a greater number of apprehensions indicates a higher number of attempted illegal border crossings.

Although the banking problems in China have been ongoing for several weeks, I believe bank runs in the United States will happen quickly. Not even the failure of Obamacare will be able to cover up the collapse of the US dollar.

While most of the attention in the Chinese shadow banking system is focused on the Credit Equals Gold #1 Trust’s default, as we first brought to investors’ attention here, and the PBOC has thrown nearly CNY 400 billion at the market in the last few days, there appears to be a bigger problem brewing. As China’s CNR reports, depositors in some of Yancheng City’s largest farmers’ co-operative mutual fund societies (“banks”) have been unable to withdraw “hundreds of millions” in deposits in the last few weeks. “Everyone wants to borrow and no one wants to save,” warned one ‘salesperson’, “and loan repayments are difficult to recover.” There is “no money” and the doors are locked.
How this sort of case makes it to the Supreme Court ought to be the real question.
The Supreme Court took up a new gun rights case on Wednesday, weighing whether it should be a crime for someone to buy a gun for somebody else, if both people are legally allowed to own one.
Justices on Wednesday heard from Bruce James Abramski, Jr., a former police officer who got in trouble with the law after he bought a Glock 19 handgun in Virginia — and transferred it to his uncle in Pennsylvania.
Bruce did this, it appears, because he got a discount for being a cop.
Here’s the problem — the “Yellow Form” specifically asks if the firearm is being bought by you — if you’re the actual purchaser.
But there is nothing in the law itself prohibiting someone from transferring a firearm privately provided both the seller and buyer are not prohibited persons.

From Deadspin:
Learning today that his script The Hateful Eight leaked after he gave it to a small circle of actors, Quentin Tarantino tells me that he’s so upset that he has decided that he will not direct that film next.
by Sam Culper III
Not a huge Tarantino fan, but I am a big fan of Westerns so I must say that I’m a little disappointed. Though not nearly as disappointed as Tarantino.
So he gave copies of this script to six actors, one of whom allowed it to be leaked. What he practiced is a form ofaccess control, which we all know is a security measure (though poorly practiced; under the key assumption thatonly those six people would ever see it). A better form of access control would have been a read-only setting, say, in his own home. He selected six recipients, so we know that one of them was likely the cause of the leak.
Leaks are dangerous to you, but you can make them dangerous to leakers by using what’s called a canary trap. Tarantino doesn’t know which of the six actors leaked the script, but he could know if he had only followed this simple procedure.
