Holder seeks to avert mandatory minimum sentences for some low-level drug offenders

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. is set to announce Monday that low-level, nonviolent drug offenders with no ties to gangs or large-scale drug organizations will no longer be charged with offenses that impose severe mandatory sentences.

The new Justice Department policy is part of a comprehensive prison reform package that Holder will reveal in a speech to the American Bar Association in San Francisco, according to senior department officials. He is also expected to introduce a policy to reduce sentences for elderly, nonviolent inmates and find alternatives to prison for nonviolent criminals.

SWAT Home Invasion Dilemma – Discussion & Scenarios

by Max Velocity

My intent is to discuss, in a scenario based format, the dilemma posed by the increased risk of armed home invasion and your potential responses to it. Firstly, let me lay out my assumptions for this discussion:

1) Current ‘Law Enforcement’ policy has seen the proliferation of co-called ‘SWAT’ teams. ‘SWAT’ refers to a ‘Special Weapons and Tactics’ Law Enforcement team. However, due to insufficient selection and training for these teams, there is little ‘special’ and ‘tactics’ about them. Thus, for the purpose of this discussion I will be referring to them as ‘Home Invasion Teams’ or HIT teams.

2) You and your family are law abiding citizens, for what that is worth in the current climate of authoritarian tyranny. As such, you are not expecting a home invasion. You would have no reason to do so. At worst, you may be in contravention of some unconstitutional local statute or ordinance, such as selling milk, or harboring Bambi, keeping standard capacity rifle  magazines, or some such other non-crime.

3) If you actually expected a home invasion, then you would adopt different tactics. You would not be asleep in your home. You would prepare a defense and probably not actually be in your home. That is all a different topic, such as home / retreat defense in an SHTF environment, something that I cover in detail in ‘Contact! A Tactical Manual for Post Collapse Survival.’ Similarly, the assumption is that if you suffer a home invasion, the intent of the HIT team is not expressly to kill you and your family i.e. there remains a veneer of legality over this activity. However, death is still a very likely possibility as the result of a HIT raid. If there is no longer any veneer of legality, and you are suffering from kill squad attacks, then refer back to the SHTF point, and you have no choice but to establish defenses to repel marauders, or bug out, or both.

New case of H7N9 bird flu confirmed in China; first evidence of human-to-human transmission found

New case of H7N9 bird flu confirmed in China; first evidence of human-to-human transmission found

According to the Xinhua News Agency, a new case of H7N9 bird flu has been confirmed in south China’s Guangdong Province. Guangdong’s health department said in a statement that 51-year-old woman tested positive for H7N9 at China’s equivalent of the CDC, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Xinhua News Agency also reports that the 51-year-old woman worked with poultry in an agricultural products trade market. The woman was admitted to Huizhou City Central People’s Hospital, but was eventually sent to the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. She is currently in critical condition.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that an outbreak of human infections with H7N9 was first reported in Asia by the World Health Organization at the beginning of April. The virus was detected in poultry in China and most of the people infected with H7N9 reported contact with poultry.

Although the “transmissibility was limited and non-sustainable” in the study case, researchers recently identified the first evidence that H7N9 had spread from human to human. The study was conducted by researchers reporting in the British Medical Journal.

John Kerry: ‘Climate Change’ ‘a Challenge to Our Responsibilities as the … Safe Guarders of God’s Creation’

Secretary of State John Kerry

Reiterating a theme he presented two weeks ago at an Iftar dinner celebrating the end of Ramadan, Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday described “global climate change” as “a challenge to our responsibilities as the guardians–safe guarders of God’s creation.”

Kerry was speaking at an event announcing the creation of the State Department’s Office of Faith-Based Community Initiatives.

“I’m convinced that all of you will agree,” said Kerry, “that one of the toughest challenges that we face in terms of global diplomacy and relationships around the world between peoples nowadays, from sectarian strife to the challenges of many intractable, frozen conflicts, to the challenges of simply understanding people–one people to another–or even monumental challenges like the sectarian strife that we see tearing countries and regions apart, as well as the enormous challenges of things like global climate change, which really is a challenge to our responsibilities as the guardians–safe guarders of God’s creation.”

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood goes underground, hides command structure in Gaza

Mr. X, secret Brotherhood leader

Mr. X, secret Brotherhood leader

On July 22, DEBKAfile revealed that a group of six Muslim Brotherhood officials escaped from Egypt after the July 3 overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi in a military coup and smuggled themselves into the Gaza Strip to lead an uprising against the military. The group was headed by Mahmud Izzat Ibrahim, known as the Brotherhood’s “iron man” and fourth in rank in its hierarchy after Supreme Guide Muhammed Badie.

The fugitives set up a command post at the Gaza Beach Hotel for operations against Egyptian military and security targets in collaboration with Hamas and armed Al Qaeda-linked Salafist Bedouin in Sinai. The group planned their revolt to spread quickly out from Sinai to Egypt proper and topple the interim rulers in Cairo.

Western intelligence agencies following the inner workings of the Muslim Brotherhood have since discovered that the Brotherhood’s plans are a good deal more high-powered than first thought.

According to DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources, the movement never dismantled its clandestine paramilitary underground. Its hidden commanders manipulated front politicians from the shadows under three Egyptian presidents and continued to do so after the Brotherhood was elected to power in Cairo in 2012.

At all times since then, the Brothers stood ready to step in should their Freedom and Justice Party leaders be ousted and sent back to prison. “Supreme Guide,” Mohammed Badie was therefore no more than an obedient front for the Muslim Brotherhood’s real leader, who was until now Mr. X.

It now transpires that he is none other than Mahmoud Izzat Ibrahim, who is firmly at the helm and running the show both in Sinai and Cairo from the Gaza Beach Hotel, under the auspices of the Palestinian Hamas rulers.

He plans to confront with violence every action ordered against the Brotherhood by Defense Minister, Gen. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

Virologist: “There Will Be More Infections… We Need to Be Vigilant”

New viruses are one of the more prominent threats that mankind faces. With the H7N9 flu virus now spreading by human-to-human transmission, and the MERS Coronavirus spreading in the middle east and having a 50% mortality rate, it’s becoming increasingly possible for the contagion to spread across the globe.

With viruses continuously evolving, as we have seen with H7N9 jumping from animals to humans, we could literally be just a mutation away from a crisis similar to what the world saw during the H1N1 Spanish Flu variant pandemic of 1918, which infected half a billion people and killed an estimated 5% of the world’s population..

Full Spectrum Survival interviews leading infectious disease expert Dr. Ian MacKay of Virology Down Under to discuss the possibility of these viruses becoming a global pandemic.

We don’t know a lot of things, including what the host is for this virus. Where it came from – has it come from animals… we really don’t know.

We don’t know how these patients are getting the virus; if it is from an animal and what sort of contact they’re having. We don’t know how well it transmits from patient to patient.

We also don’t know much about the variation of the virus. At the moment it doesn’t seem to be very well spread between people, but that may change as the virus evolves as it infects more people.

Are These The Last Days Of The U.S. Marine Corps?

Marines

Are the current personnel cuts the beginning of the end for the U.S. Marines?  Could these actually be the last days of the U.S. Marine Corps?  A decade ago, such a notion would have been absolutely unthinkable, but times have changed.  The Marine Corps was already in the process of drawing down from a peak of 202,100 Marines to 182,100, and now Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is warning that the sequester cuts may force the Army to be cut down to a size of 380,000 and the Marine Corps to be cut down to a size of150,000.  Unfortunately for the Marines, even larger cuts may eventually be coming.  Many in the Obama administration and in the Pentagon are now openly questioning whether there will be an important role for the Marines to play in the future.  After all, the U.S. military has not conducted a major amphibious landing since the Korean War.  As our politicians look for even more ways to cut military expenses in the years ahead, the Marines may end up being very tempting “low hanging fruit” that the bureaucrats can’t resist.  And unless another major conflict erupts, it seems clear that more cuts are probably coming.  In fact, even the New York Times admits that “deep reductions” to the U.S. military have long been an important goal for Barack Obama.

So does Barack Obama plan to go after the Marines?  Well, for now Barack Obama is publicly praising the Marines.  In fact, Obama made the following promise to the Marines during a recent speech at Camp Pendleton

“After all you’ve given to our nation, you have to know your nation will always be faithful to you.”

Will Obama keep that promise?

No Town Halls Again for Renee Ellmers but She Has Time to Meet Illegal Aliens in Asheboro

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers

August 11, 2013

Dear Friend,

I’m so happy to be back home in the Second District this month!

The Congressional recess provides me the opportunity to spend invaluable time listening to the concerns of the men, women and families across my district.

Last week, I spoke to the Mary Stewart Lions Club in Dunn and visited the NC Defense & Economic Development Trade Show in Fayetteville. You’ll find some photos from those events below, and more information and photos on Facebook and Flickr.

I also spent time this week in my district office in Asheboro, where I enjoyed meeting families from the Second District and listening to their concerns.  An immigration rally that took place outside my Asheboro office provided me the opportunity to hear from families on the all important topic of immigration reform, and I couldn’t be more proud to hear how passionate they are about America.

The American Right to Revolt Against Tyranny: Part B—Colonial Pulpits

The Limits of Tyranny are Measured by the Endurance of the Oppressed

Frederick Douglass

By Kelly OConnell

Does it seem plausible that the true spark of the American Revolution was the religion of peace—Christianity? In fact, how could it be any other way in a country expressly founded to establish Christian religious liberty?

Colonial America was one of the most intensely evangelized and churched societies in history. For example, according to Harry Stout in The New England Soul: Preaching and Religious Culture in Colonial New England, the typical colonists probably listened to 7,000 hours of sermons in their lifetime. For many colonists, their instruction in religion, science, history, politics and most other subjects were delivered only by the pulpit. And the first wave of American ministers were Harvard trained.

Early American society was so influenced by the Bible, church, and preaching that it took on many of these traits by exposure and lack of other influences. Many colonists lived isolated existences, and counted only a few books, the Bible being chief in most homes. And weekly church meetings would have filled the role of religious instruction, social gathering and information exchange with neighbors. As the States grew and began to struggle for an independent voice from mother England, especially after mad King George pressed America for increasing funds, pulpits began to ring with protests, as detailed in James P. Byrd’s Sacred Scripture, Sacred War: The Bible and the American Revolution. Historian Gordon S. Wood wrote:

The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-18

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Make no mistake: we are in a battle of good vs. evil. The lines are drawn and the only decision left is which side you will be on. The time for being on the sidelines is past.
Update:
I received an email from another webmaster right after I posted this article who had posted this same passage earlier this week. I went to church this morning and the pastor asked us to turn to Ephesians 6:10-18 for our scripture reading. My wife’s Bible place holder was on this page. The sermon was based on this passage of scripture. I know that the Lord guides us: we only have to listen.
