Is it More Treasonous to Violate the Constitution or to Expose Those Violations?

In a free society the government is supposed to be open and transparent while the citizens enjoy privacy. What, then, do you call a society where the government is ultra secretive and all citizens are spied on by the state?

Establishment pundits are frantically attempting to make the NSA spy scandal story about whether the whistleblower is a hero or a traitor instead of debating the real issue — whether broad government spying on U.S. citizens violates their Constitutional rights.

This divide-and-distract strategy has long been used to protect the real criminals to a free society. Some officials are taking the extreme position that the NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden, committed treason by releasing proof of what most Americans already suspected, that their every move is being spied on by their government.

These officials, like Rep. Peter King (R-NY) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), also happen to be the staunchest advocates for destroying the Bill of Rights, the Fourth Amendment in particular. Snowden broke a corporate disclosure contract; these officials broke their oath to the Constitution. Who are the real traitors here?

Appearing on Fox News’ America Live this afternoon, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) called for the prosecution of Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald for his reporting on the classified National Security Agency information given to him by whistleblower Edward Snowden. The Republican congressman also likened Greenwald’s reporting to a hypothetical situation wherein World War II-era reporters had revealed the time and date of the so-called “D-Day” invasion, suggesting he believes the Guardian reporting is tantamount to treason.

“Not only did [Greenwald] disclose this information, he said he has names of CIA agents and assets around the world and threatening to disclose that,” King said when asked by host Megyn Kelly why he wants to prosecute the reporter. “I think [prosecuting reporters] should be very targeted and very selective and a rare exception. In this case, when you have someone who discloses secrets like this and threatens to release more, yes, there has to be legal action taken against him.”

He then asserted: “This is a very unusual case with life-and-death implications for Americans.”

FORMER DOJ PROSECUTOR FILES $3 BILLION SUIT AGAINST OBAMA, HOLDER, NSA, VERIZON OVER PRISMGATE

Former Department of Justice prosecutor Larry Klayman has filed a $3 billion class-action lawsuit in US District Court for the District of Columbia against President Obama, Eric Holder, Director of the NSA Keith Alexander, the CEO of Verizon, the NSA, Verizon Communications, the Department of Justice, and the judge of the US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court Robert Vinson who rubber-stamped the illegal NSA spying program for violating Plaintiffs’ constitutional rights, Plaintiffs’ reasonable expectation of privacy, free speech and association, right to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures, and due process rights.

The suit specifically alleges the defendants violated the 1st, 4th, and 5th amendments of the US Constitution, and is an outrageous breach of privacy, freedom of speech, freedom of association, and the due process rights of American citizens.

Any Verizon Communications customer is welcome to join the $3 billion class action suit.

Banks seized more U.S. homes in May, RealtyTrac report shows

Banks seized more U.S. homes in May as a greater number of Americans found themselves entering the foreclosure process, suggesting lenders were drawing down the pipeline of distressed properties, a report from RealtyTrac showed on Thursday.

Banks repossessed 38,946 homes, an increase of 11 percent from the previous month. The number of homes hit with default notices for the first time grew by 4 percent.

Among the five lenders involved in last year’s national mortgage settlement, all but Citigroup (C.N) saw an increase in repossessions.

“It could be a sign of a trend we’re expecting, which is that eventually, the banks are going to pull the trigger and complete these distressed loans that have been sitting in limbo for some time,” said Daren Blomquist, vice president at RealtyTrac.

Overall foreclosure activity – which includes default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions – was seen on 148,054 properties last month, up 2.3 percent from April, though it was still down 28.1 percent from May last year.

Unknown gun manufacturer eyes North Carolina for relocation

There are at least a dozen gun companies considering leaving the Northeast because of their absurd gun laws. One of them is testing the waters in the Rockingham area… but who?

No one seems to know:

The Rockingham County Partnership for Economic and Tourism Development and the Town of Mayodan announced Tuesday that an industry-leading firearms company is trying to determine if the Western Rockingham area would be the right location for a new manufacturing plant.

A key factor in that decision will be the availability of an experienced pool of skilled manufacturing workers. In order to determine that, the company will conduct pre-employment screenings and hold an open house for qualified candidates June 18 in Mayodan.

“We’re pretty excited about what this could mean for our community,” Mayodan Town Manager Michael Brandt said. “This offers the potential to reuse one of our existing buildings and provide hundreds of much needed jobs for the area.”

CIA deputy director Michael Morell

CIA deputy director Michael Morell, who played a key role in editing the administration’s controversial talking points on last September’s terror attack in Benghazi, announced his retirement on Wednesday after 33 years of service.

The White House immediately announced that President Obama had appointed Morell to serve on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, an independent advisory body.

Obama also nominated as the next CIA deputy director Avril Haines, currently deputy assistant to the president and legal advisor to the National Security Council. She will be the first woman to hold the CIA post.

“As much as I would selfishly like to keep Michael right where he is for as long as possible, he has decided to retire to spend more time with his family and to pursue other professional opportunities,” CIA Director John Brennan said in a statement.

“The Market Would Have Collapsed” Had The PBOC Drained: Chinese Liquidity Shortage Hits All Time High

Those who have been following our coverage of the bipolar Chinese liquidity situation (most recently here and here) are well aware of the unique position the world’s fastest (if only on paper) growing economy finds itself in: on one hand, it is the target of massive external hot money flows from both the Fed and the BOJ, which are pushing select inflation in the country higher, manifesting itself best in the real-estate market now higher for 12 consecutive months. On the other hand, the local banking system is in such dire need of liquidity, that not only have various short-term SHIBORs soared to multi-year highs but as Market News reported last week, China Everbright Bank failed to repay 6b yuan ($977m) borrowed from Industrial Bank on time yesterday because of tight liquidity, leading to “chain effect” borrowing in the market overnight and almost ushering in the first bank failure in China.

The unprecedented liquidity shortage in China is seen best on the overnight SHIBOR chart below which just hit an all time high. In a nutshell there is zero free liquidity in the system.

They Should Have Read the Bill

Dozens of lawmakers and aides are so afraid that their health insurance premiums will skyrocket next year thanks to Obamacare that they are thinking about retiring early or just quitting.

The fear: Government-subsidized premiums will disappear at the end of the year under a provision in the health care law that nudges aides and lawmakers onto the government health care exchanges, which could make their benefits exorbitantly expensive.

Democratic and Republican leaders are taking the issue seriously, but first they need more specifics from the Office of Personnel Management on how the new rule should take effect — a decision that Capitol Hill sources expect by fall, at the latest. The administration has clammed up in advance of a ruling, sources on both sides of the aisle said.
