On the brink, Detroit halts debt payments, plans pension cuts

detroit protest

Detroit will immediately stop payments on about $2 billion in debt, the city’s emergency manager announced Friday, an effort to conserve cash.

The manager, Kevyn Orr, also said Detroit will need to cut pay and pension and health benefits for city workers.

Debt holders are likely to get only pennies on the dollar.

“Financial mismanagement, a shrinking population, a dwindling tax base and other factors over the past 45 years have brought Detroit to the brink of financial and operational ruin,” said Orr.

Orr met with the city’s leading creditors behind closed doors Friday morning, presenting his preliminary restructuring plan. He said further meetings are planned with the unions representing city employees.

Unspecified US weapons for Syrian rebels, but no intervention to save Aleppo

Evidence of chemical weapon use in Idlib

Evidence of chemical weapon use in Idlib

The White House, in a second statement, said early Friday said the US would provide “direct military support” for the first time to the Syrian opposition after obtaining proof that the Syrian government had used the chemical weapon sarin against rebel forces. The nature of the package was not specified. The rebels responded to this apparent evasion with a demand for anti-aircraft and other advanced arms to save them from Syrian air bombardment. The first White House statement, eagerly awaited for months, amounted to a rejection by President Barack Obama of proposals to intervene to save Aleppo and Idlib from a defeat that would give Bashar Assad a decisive victory.

It followed a special consultation on Syria by the president and his national security team, necessitated by  the need for drastic action to thwart the Syrian-Hizballah offensive to capture Aleppo, Syrian’s biggest city of more than 2 million..

Spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Thursday, June 13: “The president and every member of his national security team are greatly concerned by the terrible situation… and the worsening situation in Syria. As terrible as the situation is in Syria, he has to make decisions when it comes to policy toward Syria that are in the best interests of the United States.”

What Carney conveyed on behalf of the president was that while stopping the battle for Aleppo was crucially important in terms of the Syrian war, intervention was not in the interests of the United States.

Rubio being untruthful about AMNESTY bill for illegals — also updates

Immigration Reformers and Concerned Citizens,

THE GANG OF EIGHT’S NATIONAL S.744 LEGISLATION TO GRANT AN AMNESTY TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS will now be debated with amendments as the cloture vote passed.  WE have time to stop the bill and more on that in a couple of days, but first some news which shows we really can’t trust the Gang of Eight nor the Department of Homeland Security.

The Gang of Eight among other US Senators just voted against an amendment to make sure the border would be really secure for six months before any “pathway to citizenship” (aka amnesty) could even begin to take place.  Those of us who are informed know the border is only one piece of real immigration enforcement, but this vote shows they are not being honest about their real motives.

Rubio is not truthful, as he earlier said the border would be secure first. Continue reading

Stunning Images From China: Ten Thousand People Waiting In Line To Buy Gold

Sometimes one must see to believe, in this case believe just how massive the raw demand for the shiny, barbarous relic is in China during times of relative monetary stability (in this case the Dragon Boat Festival). Now assume runaway inflation as we saw in 2011 China, which may be unleashed by something as catalytic as the PBOC once again deciding to inject liquidity in its suffocating banking system and to revive growth in the stalling economy.

June 11, ten thousand people line up in front of a gold shop to buy gold. The buyers lined up during the three day Dragon Boat Festival.

Will Disney soon be able to Break into Your Computer… Legally?

By Paul Rosenberg, FreemansPerspective.com

And we thought Hollywood was over the edge when they were suing 14-year-old girls for downloading Madonna songs. Ha! That was nothing!

Something called The IP Commission Report (subtitled A Report Of The Commission On The Theft Of American Intellectual Property) just crossed my desk. This new and very impressively produced report, authored by seven sets of hyper-impressive credentials, informs Congress that they should change US laws to go far, far beyond anything that has been authorized previously.

(To me, that means they are doing it already and want legal cover, but I’m just guessing, based on previous experience.)

The report is not exactly exciting reading, but I’ll give you the highlights:

On page 6, (by the report’s internal numbering), we get a bit of an overture – a foretaste of what’s to come. It says this:

Companies that experience cyber theft ought to be able to retrieve their electronic files or prevent the exploitation of their stolen information.

“Retrieve their electronic files” is a bit ominous, since getting them back would require breaking into remote computers. How and by whom is not discussed in this overview section; that will come later.

Page 13 gives us a very interesting insight into the general Washington mind. Here’s what it says:

Russian MP Accuses U.S. Of Fabricating Syrian Chemical Weapons Report

Following yesterday’s “news” that the US is rerunning the Iraq invasion script has been busy collecting made up solid evidence proving the Syrian government has used chemical weapons, which it would use as a basis for yet another foreign intervention including a no-fly zone and arming the Syrian rebels (just to accelerate the passage of a Qatari natgas pipeline into Europe, bypassing Gazprom, and installing another puppet Muslim Brotherhood government in the Mid-East), the entire world waited with bated breath to learn what Russia’s response, and remember to Russia Syria is a key geopolitical outpost and critical national interest, to US allegations would be.

The wait was short-lived. As Novosti reports at least someone, somewhere has had the guts to call out this farce of an intervention from an official standpoint:  “A US government report concluding Syria has used chemical weapons against rebels, crossing what US President Barack Obama has previously described as a “red line,” is a fabrication, a senior Russian lawmaker said Friday. Information about the usage of chemical weapons by Assad is fabricated in the same way as the lie about Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.” Alexei Pushkov, head of the Russian lower house of parliament’s international affairs committee, said on Twitter.

The truth-telling continues:

President Obama “is going the same way” as former President George W. Bush did then, Pushkov said.

Pushkov is known for also being quite a truth-teller in the past. From June of 2012:

Why Illegal Aliens are Opposed to House Bill 786! This is another Outrage

1. They plan to use these license-permits for civic and commerce interaction.

2. Note the incarceration – They want legal law abiding citizens to pay for THEIR incarceration!

Points from the Progressive Pulse:

  • We need driver’s licenses, but we oppose HB 786 because of the Arizona-style measures. Continue reading

Here Comes the False Flag

The time for Obama to pull out his false flag and start World War III may be here. The following story details the White House statement that Syria has crossed “Obama’s so-called red line”. It was just last month that the United Nations found that the rebels were the ones using chemical weapons.

Is anyone surprised? The president has been reticent on Benghazi, the IRS scandal, PRISM and Fast & Furious. Which scandal will bring him down? If he can successfully take us into WW III, he will bring the entire country down. Obama is supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda in Syria. Which side should we support? The answer is simple: neither.

White House says Syria used chemical weapons, crossing line

The White House said Thursday that Syrian President Bashar Assad has used chemical weapons against opposition forces, crossing President Obama’s so-called red line.

Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes said the assessment meant the administration would respond but would do so “on its own timeline.”

“The President has been clear that the use of chemical weapons — or the transfer of chemical weapons to terrorist groups — is a red line for the United States, as there has long been an established norm within the international community against the use of chemical weapons,” Rhodes said in a statement.

“Our intelligence community now has a high confidence assessment that chemical weapons have been used on a small scale by the Assad regime in Syria. The President has said that the use of chemical weapons would change his calculus, and it has.”
