Resolution bans all municipal agencies from buying or leasing drones

Charlottesville, Va., has become the first city in the United States to formally pass an anti-drone resolution.

The resolution, passed Monday, “calls on the United States Congress and the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia to adopt legislation prohibiting information obtained from the domestic use of drones from being introduced into a Federal or State court,” and “pledges to abstain from similar uses with city-owned, leased, or borrowed drones.”

The resolution passed by a 3-2 vote and was brought to the city council by activist David Swanson and the Rutherford Institute, a progressive civil liberties group based in the city. The measure also endorses a proposed two-year moratorium on drones in Virginia.

Councilmember Dede Smith, who voted in favor of the bill, says that drones are “pretty clearly a threat to our constitutional right to privacy.”

China Imports Record Amount Of Gold In December On Price Drop

Back in December, as always happens every year for the past 3, a margin call driven liquidation wave pushed the price of the gold to multi-month lows, providing merely yet another lowball buying opportunity (for which let’s all thank John Paulson, again). One buyer who certainly would love to thank whichever marginal seller was liquidating their gold, is none other than China, which as was reported a few hours ago, imported an all time record 114.4 tons of gold in the month of December, or more than all the gold held by the Greek central bank (assuming it hasn’t been confiscated by ze Germans or the ECB, or deposited in G-Pap or Venizelos’ private HSBC safe in Geneva yet: a very aggressive assumption).

Keith Pantaleon Update

From Roslyn Campbell:
I have an update about Keith. I got an email from him this evening and this is what he said:

“The charges are unlawful possession of my 2 handguns, unlawful possession of my rifle, unlawful possession of my ammo and felony possession of an assault rifle. The cops claimed the third floor tenant called because he did not have heat in his apt, and the boiler just happened to be in my apartment.

I don’t know what the landlord told him. They had no warrant nor did they have my consent. They did not Mirandize me until after 15 hours of no sleep, no food and no water.”

As of this evening he was moved into the inmate population. I am currently still trying to raise money for his defense. I can’t believe how much they violated his rights as a gun owner. They didn’t ask him any questions about the guns, the receipts or anything. They just took him too jail after entering his home unannounced. I’m so angry right now but I have to stay positive and hopeful for his sake. Thank you again for your contribution and I will continue to keep you posted. Please let me know if you come up with any resources that I can follow up on to help him. Thank you!

Best,

Franklin County, NC – 2nd Amendment Resolution

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy9gKvc0VA8

The Democrat majority of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners introduced their own 2nd amendment resolution to circumvent a stronger resolution submitted by the Republican minority at the previous meeting.

This resolution was approved by the board of commissioners without any dissent. It was given to the commissioners just prior to the meeting and no changes were allowed. Another great example of Democracy – mob rule by the majority without compromise.

The resolution was the result of politics, not the protecting our 2nd amendment rights. But I have to congratulate the Democrats: they played their hand to perfection and handed the Republicans (and the people) their heads.

2nd Amendment – Part 4

The debate over the 2nd amendment rights of the people being necessary to the security of a free State may become a moot point. The NDAA and now a Justice Department memo gives the “government” the ability to kill American citizens based on, well nothing. Let’s be clear, this memo was written to provide the president justification for his own private “kill list“. Let’s also be clear: 1.6 billion hollow points rounds of ammunition are not going to be used for “target practice”.

Justice Department memo reveals legal case for drone strikes on Americans

A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be “senior operational leaders” of al-Qaida or “an associated force” — even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S.

The 16-page memo, a copy of which was obtained by NBC News, provides new details about the legal reasoning behind one of the Obama administration’s most secretive and controversial polices: its dramatically increased use of drone strikes against al-Qaida suspects, including those aimed at American citizens, such as the  September 2011 strike in Yemen that killed alleged al-Qaida operatives Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan. Both were U.S. citizens who had never been indicted by the U.S. government nor charged with any crimes.

Assad set on arms transfers to Lebanon. Israel responds with no-fly zone

Israel Air Force imposes no-fly zone

Israel Air Force imposes no-fly zone

Syrian ruler Bashar Assad has ordered the resumption of weapons transfers to the Lebanese Hizballah, DEBKAfile’s exclusive military and intelligence sources report. This was agreed with Iran’s National Security Director Saeed Jalilee, who arrived in Damascus after Israel’s reported air strike last Wednesday, Jan. 30, inter alia, on Syrian trucks preparing to ferry to Lebanon for Hizballah the sophisticated Iran-supplied arms stored at the Jamraya military complex north of Damascus.

The Syrian ruler assured the Iranian official that he would not be deterred by what he called acts of “aggression.” It was up to Syria and Iran to put their heads together to find a safe method of getting the hardware across to Hizballah without exposing it to Israeli attack in truck convoys on the open road.

Jalilee is still in Damascus. He arrived Saturday to discuss with Syrian and Hizballah how to activate against Israel the secret mutual defense pact binding Iran, Syria, Hizballah and Hamas.

JIHAD IN THE AMAZON.COM

AMAZON MARKETPLACE USED TO SPREAD MESSAGE OF ANWAR AL-AWLAKI

BY:

Anwar al-Awlaki / AP

Online retail giant Amazon.com is profiting from the sale of speeches and writings by one of the world’s most notorious terrorists despite objections from those who argue the website is facilitating the dissemination of jihadist propaganda.

The works of terrorist mastermind Anwar al-Awlaki are easily purchased in print, CD, and on Kindle e-readers via Amazon’s site.

Al-Awlaki’s materials are not being sold by Amazon directly but via third parties in the Amazon Marketplace, which acts as a clearinghouse for books, videos, and CDs. Amazon acts as an intermediary and facilitates the sale, taking a portion of the proceeds in the process.

Amazon has failed to remove the writings following multiple appeals from United States terrorism experts who argue that the international online store is aiding the spread of terrorism.

Greek Finance Minister Gets Bullet In The Mail

Now that Europe is clearly unfixed once more, it is time to shift attention back to broke Greece where as we showed yesterday things are certainly back to the “new normal” with 24 hour strikes again on the daily agenda. And just to keep it real, Greek police reported that the new Greek Finance Minister received a care package with just two contents earlier today: a bullet and a death threat.

From Reuters:

Greece’s finance minister was sent a bullet and a death threat from a group protesting home foreclosures, police officials said on Monday, in the latest incident to raise fears of growing political violence.

The package was sent by a little-known group called “Cretan Revolution”, which warned the minister against any efforts to seize homes and evict homeowners, police sources said. The group sent similar letters to tax offices in Crete last week.
